A parking one!

We have put in a new driveway and the council have dropped the kerb outside. However, they have failed to remove the markings that there used to be a parking space there. The markings are a bit of a mess as the old markings are there alongside the guides the council have put there to show where they are moving the parking space to.

A young girl has come along, parked her car, put her headphones in and walked off in the direction of the town centre. I didn't have time to run out and stop her and the headphones meant shouting after her wouldn't have done any good.

Would I be unreasonable to request that the council send a warden out to give her a ticket?

There is no way that she could have missed that she was parking across our drive. It's large and has a big car parked on it. There were 2 parking spaces there and our drive is bang in the middle... she has parked her small Fiesta in the middle too. So right over the dropped kerb with no attempt to leave any room for access. Had it still been a parking space she would be effectively stopping another car from being able to park there. If she had parked at the beginning or end of the bay we could have still got off our driveway.

So What would you do?

holidays it's ok, you have had a shitty day, and Aibu is relentless somehow. You've said what you need to say about the parking, and thankfully it's all resolved, write today off and be kind to yourself.

Can we help you with the other matter? Have you got support for that? You don't have to discuss anything you don't want to. Pop over to relationships if you need a few hands to hold?

holiday.

I'm. glad it's sorted now. road marlins change sometimes surely you have to rely on what you see not what you remember.

New houses are built all the time you wouldn't use a swing in a garden must be case there used to he a park there.

We have a street locally that's one way and it's used to be one way in the opposite direction .You have to look.

I'm. Sorry you had such a hard time. how dare you not want to drive illegally endanger the public or fork out money for taxis. damn you op Hmm

LilMissSunshine9 · 29/07/2015 20:06

Well you make assumptions that the girl who parked her car across her driveway could afford to pay a parking fine and possible a tow fee had you successfully had it towed. What if she couldn't pay it and then couldn't get her car back and then lost her job because she couldn't get into work. Clearly extrapolating here but your behaviour was just OTT yet you don't want us making assumptions over our finances and having to justifying yourself to us but your happy to make assumptions that someone else could afford all those costs.

Hassled · 29/07/2015 20:09

Some of the posts on this thread are absolutely barking mad.
Holiday - glad it's sorted, hope you're OK. It sounds like you have a lot on your plate.

FyreFly · 29/07/2015 20:10

LilMiss if the girl couldn't afford it then perhaps she should have parked legally...

tempestinateapot · 29/07/2015 20:12

Oh, do be quiet, misssunshine. Don't you have anything better to do than criticise others in situations about which you know very little? You're coming across as extremely 'holier than thou' and it's downright unpleasant.

OP, don't stress. There seem to be a few on here with appalling attitudes this evening. I can't see anything wrong with what you did - and I'm impressed with your patience in waiting in for hours. Flowers

holidaysareoverated · 29/07/2015 20:12

But how is it my problem that her carelessness cost her a parking ticket?
Why should I pay financially by getting taxis to save her wallet?

If she had even parked considerately in what used to be two bays she wouldn't have caused me an issue. She chose to park bang in the middle. Showing that even if it was still an ok place to park that she was still an idiot.

TheHormonalHooker · 29/07/2015 20:15

I would imagine if OP has a DH who is pissing money up the wall on booze and a new baby on the way, money is quite tight.

BothEndsBurning · 29/07/2015 20:17

Yes NoisyOyster I have taken the trouble to get to know my neighbours. That was my point. The more people you know, the more likely it is that you can find someone to help if you have a problem. Better than living in a bubble.

TRexingInAsda · 29/07/2015 20:20

OP, why are you still on this thread defending yourself against people just being a fucking arse?! The driver got a ticket and fucked off, (to your mild inconvenience having to make phonecalls and be a bit late for nursery), end of story. You're making more stress for yourself trying to convince people on here of various crap such as whether it was possible to take a taxi. If they're on here after the fact posting 'why didn't you do xyz' that you've already explained, then they're not here with an open mind ready for your reasonable explanations, they're here to have a pop and be arse. You don't have to justify anything.

OttiliaVonBCup · 29/07/2015 20:21

This is mad.

If ticket girl could not afford the ticket or the parking well, then maybe she should have been the one to take the bus or walk to work.

Why should OP be out of pocket?

AliceAlice1979 · 29/07/2015 20:22

It sounds like op has enough going on at home wothout random internet strangers commenting on her relationship with her neighbours or ability to find a taxi. People need to get over themselves tonight.

Sparklingbrook · 29/07/2015 20:27

This is mad. But all is now ok. The car was moved, and the child was picked up from nursery. OP is not out of pocket but the girl is out of pocket from the ticket which people agree is a good thing. She will now avoid that road completely probably.

LilMissSunshine9 · 29/07/2015 20:27

OP you are't getting it the bays are still marked by your own admission therefore she can park there like I said before we might all think that's pretty shitty thing to do but she hasn't parked illegally. Whatever else you have going on is your private life and nothing to do with the parking issue you have. You just have to accept that until the council sort those bays out that some people may still park across your drive.

oddfodd · 29/07/2015 20:28

Ffs this thread really is cunty corner. OP hide this and go and do something more interesting. MN is dreadful in the summer hols.

MythicalKings · 29/07/2015 20:31

Bollocks to that sunshine. It's illegal to park by a dropped kerb.

Why don't you go away and leave poor Op alone? She has enough grief without you nagging on and on like a very nagging thing.

OttiliaVonBCup · 29/07/2015 20:31

Well, LilMiss, if the girl wasn't parked illegally she would not have been given a ticket now would she?

What's OP have to do with it?

Sparklingbrook · 29/07/2015 20:31
OttiliaVonBCup · 29/07/2015 20:32

You lightweight, Sparkligbrook.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 29/07/2015 20:35

Hang on, if the woman had a residents' parking permit but was actually at work, it begs the question why she didn't just walk to work?

She wouldn't have a permit to park in a residential area if she wasn't a resident would she?

3littlefrogs · 29/07/2015 20:37

OP - please ignore miss sunshine.

You must be under so much stress ATM. One more thing can be the last straw.
IMO people who park across driveways, particularly when there is a car in the drive, deserve everything they get.

The dd of a friend of mine ended up on a ventilator in ITU because someone parked across her drive, she couldn't get out to get to GP or A&E, didn't have cash for taxi (this was 25 years ago, ambulance took ages to come.

QuietIsland · 29/07/2015 20:39

I totally agree with 3littlefrogs.

FuckingLiability · 29/07/2015 20:40

Fucking hell. If this snipey snidey crap doesn't put people off posting parking threads, nothing will.

MN needs parking threads!

Gileswithachainsaw · 29/07/2015 20:40

Maybe the permit was her dad's?

gets her free parking

Lovecat · 29/07/2015 20:51

Wow, there are some right sanctimonious moos on this thread. OP, you have done nothing wrong and were extremely patient to wait as long as you did. Your financial situation is none of these miserable cowbags' business and you'll find that on AIBU some people just can't let go once they've stuck the boot in. I suspect LittleMiss (never was a poster so inaptly named) is the girl's mother. Or the girl herself...

I got home from the shops on mat leave one day (and I was huge, had undiagnosed polydramnios and was in a lot of discomfort) to find some fucker had actually parked ON my drive, in such a selfish way that I couldn't get my car on it - I rang the police pretty much straight away (couldn't park blocking it in as it was double yellows outside) as I was so outraged that someone could even think this was an ok thing to do.

A lovely officer told me that it wasn't actually illegal for him to do this (!) but he would see if he could find the driver's contact details and get in touch. He rang me back 10 mins later to tell me that he'd made contact with the driver's wife at their home number, who was NOT impressed with him and would be contacting him on his mobile to get him to come and shift it. Apparently he was an estate agent and was inspecting a house in our road and 'it's so hard to park around here' - yes, which is why we paid for our drive, you fuckwit!

It wasn't a waste of police time, I'm quite sure that they would have told me where to go if they hadn't wanted to look into it, and the beggar never did it again, so as far as I was concerned this was an excellent piece of community policing.

Thanks to you and a big hug.
