people that bump park should have their licence taken away

Surely no one thinks bump parking is acceptable? Especially now parking is easy as new cars all have rear parking cameras with guides.

I see it all the time in London and I've never witnessed it happening to my high end car, but I'm sure the small bumps are caused by it.

Shock Magrat That's awful!

SoupDragon · 26/07/2015 17:52

A couple of weeks ago, I managed to park my car in my drive in such a way that the front and rear parking sensors sounded like a two tone police siren...

MagratGarlik · 26/07/2015 17:52

Thanks, Fenella. He's feeling OK, but broken leg and a ton of repair bills we are having to foot ourselves due to the other driver just driving off, which is a nightmare.

MadeMan · 26/07/2015 17:53

I thought this was Confused Not heard of it happening out on the streets, but I definitely wouldn't want to be doing that in my high end motor unless it was on the back seat.

MagratGarlik · 26/07/2015 17:53

Thanks Evans.

Wideopenspace · 26/07/2015 17:53

Oooh Soupdragon that sounds cool....

GlitzAndGigglesx · 26/07/2015 17:53

A lot of twat mobils high end cars are really big and take up too much space anyway so it's difficult for the jealous smaller cars to park properly. I have witnessed bump parking by an elderly man who could hardly see over his steering wheel

MissDemelzaCarne · 26/07/2015 17:54

If I bought a 'high end' or expensive car I'd expect it to come with bumpers as standard.

msgrinch · 26/07/2015 17:54

You're annoyed about alot today op. have some Wine but don't drive your high end car after.

magzjobes45 · 26/07/2015 17:55

Having a high end car doesn't mean someone is well off, it may mean they value having a nice car, doesn't mean they are rich.

I'm in London, maybe it is a European thing and continental people are doing it. I'm in crouch end.

I'm not annoyed about a lot, just shit parkers and street performers.

NoSOHisadealbreaker · 26/07/2015 17:56

Okay, thanks for clearing that up OP. However, surely NOBODY sees a car as an investment: you decrease its value hugely just by driving it out of the showroom. I really can't see that the minuscule amount of damage caused by bump parking is going to have any effect at all, even if visible.

I see my car as a means to an end, and not as a way of impressing people, but that's just me and just about everybody else I know

Not that I am condoning bump parking at all, but licence taken away? Seriously?? I'm totally with Magrat on this one. Hope your DP is getting better quickly!

DoeEyedNear · 26/07/2015 17:56

You sound like you've walked out of hot fuzz

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 26/07/2015 17:57

Shock Street Performers - WITH CARS? Whatever next??

avocadotoast · 26/07/2015 17:57

I don't know what bump parking is, but I also don't give a shit if you have a high end car. Of course your car shouldn't get hit by others but it doesn't mean you're a more worthy cause than my 11-year-old "low end" car. Which definitely doesn't have parking sensors btw.

This is like my neighbour the other night parking across my drive and saying he didn't want to park on the end of the street (out of his sight) because he has a brand new car... HmmAngry

MrsTrelis · 26/07/2015 17:57

I bumped a mid range car and a high end 4x4 last week. Well 'kissed' both during my 6-point-turn. I doubt my boss would have been happy if I'd called into work to tell him I could come in because I couldn't get my car out. Neither car was there when I parked. There was no damage to either of them or mine but I was very very cross. At least one of them was perfectly aware how difficult it would have been to get out. Angry

MagratGarlik · 26/07/2015 17:58

OP, how does someone manage to scratch the alloys by bumping the bumpers? Surely scratches on the alloys are caused by the driver of the car scrapping against the kerb when trying to park? Pity I assume parking sensors don't help with scrapping against the kerb.

dingit · 26/07/2015 17:58

We live in a road next to the school, and I've seen someone bump park. I was Shock, but he had a really shit car, and didn't seem fazed.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 26/07/2015 17:59

Hold on, I'll ask my chauffeur.

I wouldn't be so vulgar as to mention the value of my car on the Internet.

MinesAPintOfTea · 26/07/2015 17:59

Well for those of us driving cars we can afford old bangers without parking sensors, you twats folk who can afford self-parking cars are a pain, because you park a large car in a space that's pretty tight and therefore make it harder to get adjacent cars out when there isn't a computer doing all the work.

I don't bump pack though.

GoodtoBetter · 26/07/2015 18:00

Bump parking is fairly standard here in southern Spain. And just general shit parking really. Means you can never have a nice car, always getting scratched.

magzjobes45 · 26/07/2015 18:00

High end is just relivant as it causes more damage in £ that's all, thought I was being gracious by not mentioning the name!

A stone scratched the alloys when it spun up. Was just to give people the costs of minor repairs to a performance vehicle.

OP posts:
londonrach · 26/07/2015 18:00

I have never seen anyone one bump park and i lived in london. If someone bumps into a car whilst parking they are at fault. As for the sensors i believe that you pay extra for them. We rented a brand new fiat 500 recently and no sensors on that. But you dont need them you have mirrors...

Lweji · 26/07/2015 18:02

I do it. That's what bumpers are for.

Shock

Almost as bad as:
Geeze having an expensive car is relevant to my post. How about responding to the issue I'm talking about rather than sounding jealous.

Tuskerfull · 26/07/2015 18:02

My car is eight months old and doesn't have parking sensors or rear cameras. Not that it matters, since I can park without them, but your assumptions are silly.

NoSOHisadealbreaker · 26/07/2015 18:03

Is a performance vehicle in any way connected to a performance (street) artist. Should it be hosed off the street?
