To wonder how many cover ups there are and what we're not being told?

I've never really believed in conspiracy theories and thought people who thought there is any kind of truth in them were a bit odd/strange, but since the whole Jimmy Savile thing Im finding myself wondering more and more about what we're not being told things. Years ago I used to post on another forum and people on there were always hinting that Savile was a pervert and then the moderators would come along and ban people for libel and posts would get removed, but it turns out it was all true.

Now today I've just watched an Australian current affairs show attempting to expose a pedophile ring at the very heart of the British establishment, why aren't the UK media doing this? I feel so disturbed. What aren't we being told?

AIBU to wonder how many cover ups there are actually are? Everything is starting to feel a bit unreal, like one big lie.

Sorry Achieve. I am probably being dense because I'm not very good at telling whether someone's trying to goad me into saying things I don't mean.

Suggest you do your own research on any topics that interest you.

achieve15 · 22/07/2015 22:55

ah, thanks Garlick. I think you've probably just explained something to me that I hadn't thought of. I've seen people post here saying "this isn't meant to be goady" and I wondered why they felt the need to issue a disclaimer but I guess goading is common here.

Another strange aspect of a strange world!

Garlick · 22/07/2015 22:57

YouTheCat - "Thatcher knew" ... they all do. This has been posted before: The Parliamentary Whips' "dirty book" including mention of scandals with young boys ...

Garlick · 22/07/2015 22:57

Fairly common, achieve :)

Dowser · 22/07/2015 23:37

It would appear that a lot of this stuff is new to some people on MN , so can we please remember the children who have suffered, died, been abused and keep it friendly.

We don't want another child to suffer in this way and so this thread has been great in raising awareness by the pooling of knowledge.

Let's keep it current.

ASAS · 22/07/2015 23:44

Here's current. The Children and Young People's Act (Scotland) and its Named Person. They aren't even hiding it anymore.

PetShopGirl · 22/07/2015 23:57

Every PM has known.

Genuine question - so presumably DC knows. How does he sleep at night? Whatever people think of his politics, I honestly don't think he's an evil man. He has his own children. What is it that is still driving his generation to keep everything under wraps? And if Labour had won the general election would Ed Milliband now be keeping shtum on this too? (I realise this is a cross-party issue and Labour MPs also implicated, but EM really sold himself on his principles).

Prelude · 23/07/2015 00:08

I think that Cameron's politics are massively in keeping with the idea that only the elite are fully human and worthy of any respect or protection.

MrsFionaCharming · 23/07/2015 00:10

Even with the internet, it seems some information is being somehow repressed.

A man I went to school with was convicted of and placed on the sex offenders register around a year ago. His crimes included buying indecent images of children, and of putting hidden cameras in public toilets that would be used by children.

There was an article in our local newspaper, which I missed. My mother saw it, and told me to google it so I could read it. But there's nothing there, no mention of him, even on the website of the paper who reported it.

achieve15 · 23/07/2015 00:13

PetShopGirl - on that basis, how does any establishment figure from any party with any knowledge, sleep at night?

I suspect they don't have specific proof and live in denial to some extent?

PetShopGirl · 23/07/2015 00:31

So they 'know' via rumour, grapevine, etc but aren't briefed in any way? I just find it hard (depressing) to believe that of all the PMs who have known this was going on but weren't directly involved themselves, none of them have done anything meaningful about it.

The point about DC wanting to preserve the establishment may be fair up to a point (although I do dispute that he would honestly want to preserve it at this cost), but what about Tony Blair? Gordon Brown? They must have known too?

Who is really in control here, keeping them all quiet?

PetShopGirl · 23/07/2015 00:34

Does it just boil down to the potential political cost of all the skeletons tumbling from their own parties' cupboards? Even though there isn't really any one party more heavily implicated than another.

Garlick · 23/07/2015 00:35

I've noticed stories I know were reported - and parts of stories - disappearing as well, Fiona. Stuff just vanishes unless some obsessive campaigner has visited a physical archive and photographed print copies to upload. And that's if the print copy still exists anywhere!

PetShop - the Belgian witnesses made clear that the main motivation was influence. Very rich people, major landowners, heads of corporations and high-level decision makers would be supplied - and inducted, if they weren't already into children - creating obligations and bonds of silence. People were filmed and, of course, were all in it together.

It could be that any political party conducting an honest clamp-down would find itself rendered penniless and powerless (or even murdered.) This is surmise, of course. But I have seen many important men influenced by lesser misdemeanours.

Garlick · 23/07/2015 00:37

Who is really in control here, keeping them all quiet?

Yeah, that.

Makes you realise 'the patriarchy' is a real thing.

ComposHatComesBack · 23/07/2015 00:42

Got to give it to David Icke, he always said Jimmy Saville was evil.

No you don't, because he didn't. Since Saville was exposed as a prolific sex offender, he has noisily been telling anyone who listened that he knew about Saville all along. Unfortunately for Icke there's no evidence of him warning anyone or making comment on Saville whilst Saville was alive.

PetShopGirl · 23/07/2015 00:43

God, this is all so deeply depressing.

Garlick · 23/07/2015 01:08

Gosh, Compos, you're right. I still enjoy the occasionally brilliant sleuthing powers of his forum members, though.

RedCheckedTablecloth · 23/07/2015 01:27

I knew a social worker in the mid nineties who worked at Stoke Mandeville.

She worked with young people with life changing injuries and she said then that Jimmy Saville was a necrophiliac and was caught in a compromising position a few times in the morgue.

I asked her then why he wasn't reported. She didn't reply. To this day I wonder what he did to those patients with 'life changing injuries'.

I remember reading that on another forum in 2003 followed by a warning comment that JS was extremely litigious. It wasn't removed iirc.

Garlick · 23/07/2015 01:57

I'm just loving BabyFeets's comment Grin

Conservatives? Conservatories? Convicts? Conmen? Con tricks? Construction? ... ?

howtorebuild · 23/07/2015 02:32

I wonder what the Butler, Paul Burrell had for HRH to suddenly remember mid trial?

chaiselounger · 23/07/2015 07:50

Bet there are tonnes more cover ups.
Serious ones like Cyril smith, Leon Britten etc.

But also corruption at local level aswell.
When I read the special needs boards, there are many posters, trying to get statements fur their children, going to tribunal, LEA's have lied and lied and lied and cheated. some of what is done is really bad and goes beyond bad administration and is actually illegal corruption.

SophiePendragon · 23/07/2015 07:59

When I was little I had it sorted in my head that Tories was short for Conservatories.

Never sure why people said I had a high IQ after that Grin
