AIBU?

To go cold turkey?

Bit of a strange one....

My DD is almost 9 months and is not a great sleeper at all. For her naps I need to rock her in her pram AND let her suck my pinky. I feed to sleep at night but if she doesn't fall asleep she sucks my pinky. For her numerous night wakenings I usually have to feed her back to sleep (about 4 times) plus an extra couple settings in the early evening using my pinky.

She will NOT take a dummy. Trust me, I've tried every brand.

I'm tired and frustrated. She just screams and screams if I don't feed her or give a pinky.

She's currently teething which is even worse as she grinds her bottom teeth against my pinky. Very sore.

Should o just go cold turkey?? She won't settle with cuddles etched so there would be a lot of crying.

AIBU to withhold the comfort of my pinky when she's obviously teething?

I'm at war with myself Sad

Watching with interest. My 16m o will only sleep with his pinky in my mouth.

I can't keep doing this

Could you use something other than a pinky?

Have you introduced her to her own pinky?

What is a pinky?

Do it. Maybe get her a special bed time teddy to replace it? The longer you leave the pinky situation in place, the harder it will be to break the habit.
Just go cold turkey and she may surprise you how soon she gets over it. Good luck!

Not sure what else to try? She has a comforter but doesn't seem to use it for comfort, she won't suck her thumb or fingers, and gets very upset if you put a dummy I her mouth when she wants a pinky Confused

In currently in seeing her for the 3rd time in 35mins, she sucks my pinky for 5 mins and seems to be asleep. I leave but 10 mins later she's crying again. I realise a lot of it might be teething pain but I gave her nurofen before bed so thought that might have taken the edge off of it...

Have you tried other things that aren't dummies (but also aren't your finger?)? Perhaps something more finger-shaped would do, like this: www.amazon.co.uk/NUK-10256302-Cooling-Stick/dp/B00AVE21NE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1436991075&sr=8-1&keywords=teething%20stick&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

I think she likes the contact with me and that's why inanimate objects are disregarded! I wouldn't mind so much if it wasn't so sore right now!!

She's awake but every time I take pinky out she releases a blood curling scream. She's very windy. I don't know if I can let her cry like that :(

Yanbu.. I had to go cold turkey with my 20 month old as she was feeding to sleep and then wanting a feed about 4 times a night. I had to go away for 4 nights for work so we did it then and I left my dh in charge :).... He jusy gave her a bottle of milk and she was fine :)
My ds was different, he was happily gradually weaned until only ine morning feed from 13-15 months then gave up completely no fuss.

Lol @ pinky!!!

I didn't realise people actually used that word.

It sounds really difficult OP - I sleep trained my DS at 9/10 months so I'm an advocate of cold turkey in some instances.

What do other people call it?? Blush

She won't take a bottle, or even milk out of a cup unfortunately so it's me or nothing when it comes to milk :(.

I've been here an hour now trying to get her to go to sleep without a feed, she's getting frustrated at you it even now and is getting very worked up. Farting like a trooper too!!

It's just called 'little finger' where I'm from Smile

I was cutting out night feeds (BF) at the 10 month stage because my DS's sleep horrendous for lots of reasons I won't go in to, but CC and cold turkey worked really well.

Every time he cried I went into him, he was always standing up, so I would lie him back down (never lifting or bringing him into me), tell him it was time to go to sleep and walk out again.

Interaction just makes things worse.

Is there noone else who can settle her?... My dd only wanted boob but then ahe had no choice as I wasn't there!

Don't let her cry :(, dont leave her room :(... Unless its someone else being in there! Dont leave her on her own! She doesn't know she's disturbing your sleep, she just wants comfort

If DH tries to settle her she screams as if someone is sticking needles in her. It's awful, and he gets quite upset by it Sad.

I can't teller they she is in pain or not which makes this so hard. She's still not asleep, that's been 90 minutes.

I have to make sure she doesn't nap past 3pm thougj otherwise it takes ages for her to fall asleep

Sorry O/T is pinky regional then - or is American?

Report

ToonLass · 15/07/2015 22:35

I wouldn't leave her to cry, but I need to do something for both our sakes. She's so grouchy and difficult during the day due to her sleepiness. Also, because she feeds toddlers several times during the night she ends up with a build up of gas. It's a vicious cycle.

I sometimes take her to bed with us but it does t stop her waking me as often - just easier for me to feed her!!

May be random, but we have dd her toy at this age and i wrapped it in a tshirt I had worn and expressed a bit of milk on to it

The scent of me made it more interesting and after a few weeks it was a part of bedtime.

Hug
