Washing hands after nappy change - MIL thread, sorry

My PIL are staying with us at the moment to look after DS, after I have had an operation. I appreciate is is very generous and lovely of them, and I am grateful.

However, MIL isn't washing her hands after pooey nappy changes. AIBU to be bothered by this? How can I get her to do this without basically implying she's being disgusting? We do have hand sanitizer at the nappy change station, but I found she as using that BEFORE she changed his nappy instead of after! DS is 8 months old, just for info, and my operation means I can't lift or carry him, or bend over/ kneel down, so I can't do it myself at the moment.

Those who don't wash hands are disgusting! You are spreading germs and disease and you don't even care. With a bit of luck you'll all catch something horrid

Ruledbycatsandkids6 · 15/07/2015 18:52

Eeek yes as an ex nurse it's hand washing for me too.

As a cm absolutely. Good role model.

Non hand washers do you tell your kids to wash after the loo? Do you?

Op yes polio idea sounds good. Hand her the sanitiser.

Yeuk. No more home made cakes from fetes now.

reni1 · 15/07/2015 18:55

I've read up to half don't wash their hands after going to the loo themselves, surely those people wouldn't wash after a nappy either? Sounds like more than half on this thread though.

Heels99 · 15/07/2015 18:55

Gross. Germtastic. And then touching things in your house including your child yuk yuk yuk. Don't let her do any nappy changes!

BleachEverything · 15/07/2015 18:56

Guilty.

Tequilashotfor1 · 15/07/2015 18:58

Unless she is getting shit all over her hands I can't see the problem. You are super lucky by the way to have such supportive in laws.

00100001 · 15/07/2015 18:59

Whilst I don't wash hands after nappies all the time. I do wash hands before cooking that involves touching the food. ( I don't wash though if I'm making a tin if soup or something) Nobody had died yet!

Tequilashotfor1 · 15/07/2015 18:59

I actually don't undersysnd the outrage? Can people not change a shitty nappy with out it smearing all over their hands ?

00100001 · 15/07/2015 18:59

Germs are good for you!

ReginaBlitz · 15/07/2015 19:01

Seriously people don't wash their hands after shitty nappies?Confused Sorry but that is vile And lazy

Olddear · 15/07/2015 19:02

So unless you actually get faeces on your hands, you don't wash after using the toilet?

Wideopenspace · 15/07/2015 19:02

Tequila do you wash your hands after going to the toilet yourself?

BleachEverything · 15/07/2015 19:03

Non hand washers do you tell your kids to wash after the loo? Do you?

Yes and yes

00100001 · 15/07/2015 19:04

Nope. Just my hands don't get poo on them sorry. Nappy does the first wipe, and that's like ...a cm+ thick? Then the terry wipes touch the rest.

Kids I do ask to wash their hands yes, because who knows if they managed to wipe without getting poo/wee on their hands?

skinoncustard · 15/07/2015 19:04

Wipes are thin gauze like, how do you non washers believe that they form a barrier between the wee/poo and your hands ???? Disgusting !

StarlingMurmuration · 15/07/2015 19:04

But I HAVE to let her do them because I physically can't and DFIL is very old school and won't do nappies! Plus he probably wouldn't wash either.

Obviously I do get poo on my hands occasionally, but most of the time I don't, but still, i always wash after! Germs aren't only there if you can see the dirt!

Fucking hell, of course you wash your hands! What a load of mingers. I grew up on a farm and have eaten sandwiches with cow shit I couldn't scrub out engrained into the grooves of my hands so I'm not precious but I am never ever eating home baking again after this thread.

I wish there was a "boak" emoticon.

tocmrpouce · 15/07/2015 19:05

Always wash hands after a nappy change - pooey or not! Just as always wash my hands after going to the loo.

Yanbu OP but not sure how you can address this to mil

msgrinch · 15/07/2015 19:06

I was when I go to the loo, before and after preparing food etc. After a nappy change (haven't done that for 6 years), I used a wipe and antibac gel. Didn't wash them unless I had shit on them.

00100001 · 15/07/2015 19:06

I don't wash my hands when I blow my nose either!

00100001 · 15/07/2015 19:07

Germs schmerms. No-one has ever had D&V in this house!

StonedGalah · 15/07/2015 19:07

I used to ask PIL to wash their hands coming into our home after being on public transport.

Some of you are disgusting!

Ruledbycatsandkids6 · 15/07/2015 19:08

Really suprised at the non hand washers. To me it's second nature. Like using a nappy sac and putting it straight outside into the dustbin.

Still each to own.

icelollycraving · 15/07/2015 19:09

Disgusting!!! How can people not wash their hands after dealing with a nappy? Do you wash your hands before cooking or eating?

Olddear · 15/07/2015 19:09

Think of all the home baking you've all eaten at playgroup, nursery, school fetes! All those bakers who don't wash after nappy changes! Mmmm, lovely!
