Places you've not been before - anywhere in the world? Singapore was at the top of my list, but I went in 2009. Choose 3.

Vancouver

Trieste in Italy.

The Orkney Islands.

Ive only ever had 2 trips on a bucket list, one was a Pacific Coast Highway road trip in California from San Francisco which we were lucky enough to do in 2013 (10 years in the planning!) and the other is Iceland.

Isthiscorrect · 08/07/2015 12:38

I feel very fortunate to have visited many of the countries on my bucket list, and apparently on other peoples bucket list as well ;-) Off to Zanzibar next week and went to Burma for Christmas! Off to Jordan in February.

Japan
Jaipur and Rajastan
Bhutan

juneau · 08/07/2015 12:48

The first two are possibles with a lot of saving but as a single traveller the third would be over £15000 so unless I win the lottery that will have to remain a pipe dream.

Um, well according this website realrussia.co.uk/Trains/Trans-Siberian/Average-Ticket-Prices#trans-mog its about £800 to travel from Moscow to Beijing via Ulan Bator in first class! Not sure where you got £15k from.

As for this You can stay in your nice house and superimpose your image on the trans Siberian railway. Far more comfy If you are a home body you're just not going to agree with me, however much I try to convince you, so I'll save myself the bother!

downgraded · 08/07/2015 12:50

Japan
The holy land
Ethiopia

I've done a lot of travelling but haven't ticked much of anywhere else since DCs were born. I plan to get back on that horse next year.

downgraded · 08/07/2015 12:52

ghosty can I ask why you have Denmark? I lived there for a while and it's one of the most boring places I've ever been!

TequilaMockinBird · 08/07/2015 12:55

Las Vegas
Hawaii
Mauritius

I think that's my top 3, although there's so much of the world to see that it's quite difficult to pick just 3 places!

I've been to Morocco (hated it) , Cairo, and much of the Caribbean. I need to see more of America though, and maybe some Oz/NZ too.

willconcern · 08/07/2015 12:56

Galapagos Islands
Vietnam
Kerala

downgraded · 08/07/2015 12:56

velour Iran is amazing - people really friendly, great food, incredible history, loads to see. I can highly recommend.

Can be tricky to get a visa though.

marshmallowpies · 08/07/2015 12:57

Scilly Isles
Venice
Grand tour of Belgium & Netherlands to see WWI memorials and all the art

Patagonia never gonna happen

downgraded · 08/07/2015 12:58

tequila Morocco is where I'm planning to start my travels with DC next year. I went a few years ago and loved it! What didn't you like about it?

I found NZ utterly boring.

Vagndidit · 08/07/2015 13:03

Hawaii
Banff
China
Australia
Anywhere to see the Northern Lights

Have to admit that the ideas of going to the South in the US are baffling. Really??? Why !?!?!? I lived in Texas for a number of years and you couldn't pay me to go back there.

AggressiveBunting · 08/07/2015 13:08

Jerusalem
Iran
Tasmania

Don't bother wasting a vote on HK- it's not all that as a tourist destination. Good to live in but not that special. Ditto Korea.

downgraded · 08/07/2015 13:10

Thenapoleonofcrime do you view the world in terms of where you haven't been? How odd!

Seems strange to bother to come onto a thread about travel just to say you hate travel Smile

cathcustard · 08/07/2015 13:10

I'm a fan of small luxury islands

Turtle Island Fiji
North Island Seychelles
Aman Resort Phillipines
Andaman & Nicobar islands
Necker was on there until I saw the TV programme.

Would also like to take the Blue Train

MyNameIsInigoMontoya · 08/07/2015 13:13

Somewhere to see the Northern Lights (not quite decided where yet!).

New York.

Maybe Botswana or somewhere round there like morelike.. though Zanzibar or Morocco are tempting too!

GhostsComeWith · 08/07/2015 13:33

Oh I think about this stuff all the time! I have a LONG list but have been lucky enough to travel a lot with dh and dd and also through work.

I have 4 trips coming up in the next 4 months - china, prague, gemany and spain in a mix of work and pleasure - exciting!

But top of my list right now is

St Petersburg (I have a huge fascination with Russia and have never been) planning on going there next year

Tokyo

A safari to see animals in the wild OR Egyptian pyramids (though not right now)

really though, that is the tip of the iceberg of where I would like to go....

FrugalFashionista · 08/07/2015 13:35

I've covered most of Europe and North and South America already.
And I'm from somewhere where you can see the Nothern Lights.

So for me it's Antarctica most definitely or Greenland.
I also would love to tour Armenia, Georgia or Azerbaijan.
And Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.

I've lived in Italy for the past four years. Trieste is a great pick, one of my favorite cities here.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 08/07/2015 13:50

Top 3 places to still visit, all of which I hope to do in the next few years when DS2 is old enough to appreciate them:
• Borneo to see the orangutans
• Canada, including Toronto (because I have a friend who lives there and it's near the Niagara Falls) and Montreal
• New Zealand (more do-able for me being in Australia)

Others I'd like to visit include Copenhagen, Rome (been to lots of Italian places but managed to miss that one so far!), Barcelona (last went when I was 2), Morocco. I'm not bothered about most of Asia, Africa or South America, largely because I'm an almighty wuss and still haven't got over the parasitology section of my MSc! Blush

TTWK · 08/07/2015 13:51

Why are so many people saying Iceland. It's only up the road, and flights are cheap, just go. Anyone would think it's on the other side of the world!

It's amazing by the way.

duplodon · 08/07/2015 13:57

It's a very expensive holiday though TTWK if you want to eat out etc. I had a very significant holiday there and it was AMAZING but it blew a huge chunk of my savings. Mainly on the food. Amazing food. Sigh.

bettysviolin · 08/07/2015 14:04

Japan - cherry blossom season, and to climb Mount Fuji.
Grand Canyon - to walk down into it and up the other side!
The pyramids - to arrive on camel at sunrise.
I'd also love to have one no-expense spared trip to NY with DC, ideally Christmas shopping and staying in a glitzy central hotel. Been to NYC before, but not with DC.

OP I've been to Vancouver - lovely, and the island is incredible. And to the Orkneys - stunning.

bettysviolin · 08/07/2015 14:05

TTWK is right - you can get the whole family to Iceland for a week for a grand, flights and accommodation included. Food may be expensive but if you do self catering it's not quite so bad.

Sabaidee · 08/07/2015 14:07

Kamchatka
Pakistan - Kalash valley
Ladakh
Patagonia
Iran (definitely up there!)

Soooo many places, I could go on.....!!

ShanghaiDiva · 08/07/2015 14:08

NZ - boring! One of my favourite places. But I have lived in China for 7 years so quite enjoy a bit of boring, especially if it's boring and clean!

downgraded · 08/07/2015 14:15

Frugal Uzbekistan is fantastic, so much to see. If you get chance, follow the Silk Road through that general area, there are several ways of getting around and the history is fascinating.

Don't go if you don't like rice, mutton, unleavened bread and chai - I don't think there is any other type of food there! Wink
