AIBU not to pay her for a party she threw

Last week I was visiting a friend and she had been invited to a party by a new friend of hers. I had previously met this friend but don't know her particularly well ikywim. Anyways, since my friend had only recently met this woman, she asked me to go as her plus one and so I went along with her. The party was quite dull and the woman throwing it was a bit off with my friend and rather rude towards me so we left after an hour or so.

We didn't have anything to eat (she had laid out crisps and the like) and brought a bottle of (rather expensive) wine each aswell as flowers.

This morning I received a text from party woman demanding £5 to cover the cost of the food she laid out. Now there were at least 60 people in attendance and there is no way she spent £300 on food.

AIBU to not pay her as I didn't eat any of the food and already gave her flowers and wine?

I can't help but keep coming back to this thread in hope that the OP has sent an equally bizarre reply!
Don't feel bad for hiding behind a wall OP. My sister and I once army crawled out of a fast food restaurant to avoid one of her exdp. A family who were at a another table kept watch for us while laughing over their dinner! Blush

Ha! I can't believe it took so long for you to appear AngryCrispLady! Grin

Janette123 · 09/07/2015 11:34

OP, this "hostess" is a complete nut-job.

Ignore her and keep well out of her way, if she had a brain she'd be dangerous.

Appleblossom82 · 09/07/2015 12:15

Lol @ AngryCrispLady Grin

daisywellies · 09/07/2015 12:27

Just text back 'that's fine. I'll drop it round. By the way I've just realised I left a bottle of wine and some flowers behind in your house. I'll collect them when I call around with the fiver. What time suits?'.

Libitina · 09/07/2015 18:55

Daisy, that's brilliant, go on OP, you know you want to....

KBabs · 09/07/2015 19:19

What about creating a crisp and tortilla chip "fairy circle" on her front lawn? It is biodegradable and you could always leave the packets hanging out of the wheely bin on night before collection morning if you time it nicely!

FeelingSmurfy · 09/07/2015 20:15

Are you friends with her on Facebook? I have the option to send a WhatsApp message to any of my Facebook friends who have WhatsApp

sweetgrape · 09/07/2015 20:24

How about asking her if it would be ok to pay her when you have your party. The entrance fee will be £10, flowers and wine would also be much appreciated. But because you owe her £5 she'll only have to give you a fiver. Be as outrageously cheeky as she is.

Tutteredboast · 09/07/2015 21:01

This is too weird!
Is it possible that after you left she brought out the real food?
Is she just very pissed off that so many people left early and she still has a fridge full of mini caviar canapés and vol au vents?
Did the other person who got a bill leave early?
Clutching at cheese straws now...

IUseAnyName · 09/07/2015 21:07

so disappointed that nothing's happened :(

Jen1610 · 09/07/2015 21:22

aw I am so disappointed with this thread and how it's turned out haha ????

GilbertBlytheWouldGetIt · 09/07/2015 21:24

Post some crisps through her letterbox. Not a whole packet, obviously.
Single crisps, dropped nakedly onto the doormat.

brusselsproutwarning · 09/07/2015 22:24

Awww disappointed face. Was hoping op had replied.

PHANTOMnamechanger · 09/07/2015 22:36

Come on OP, we need a resolution.
A decent update please or you'll owe us all £5 each for time invested in your thread and our professional advice! Wink

OnlyLovers · 10/07/2015 11:08

she has the scandalous manners of a pig under a bed

I've been meaning to say for ages, this is one of the best things I've ever read. Grin Grin Grin

Scandalous, did you get it from a Big Book of Regency Insults or something?

reni1 · 10/07/2015 11:41

Detailed invoice.

She owes:
10 for wine
10 for flowers

You consumed
0.5 for handful of crisps
5 for 1/2 bottle of wine
0.5 for glass of juice
0.25x 2 toilet use

Send her your full name and IBAN for the 13.50 she owes you

StrangeLookingParasite · 10/07/2015 18:09

did you get it from a Big Book of Regency Insults or something?

I read it in a book years ago, and just remembered it. I think it was spoken by an Irish character. I visualise a pig under a bed, every time!

brusselsproutwarning · 10/07/2015 20:26

And like that pufffh Op was gone.

Appleblossom82 · 13/07/2015 19:38

Im still not over not knowing the outcome of this.

Pipbin · 13/07/2015 19:51

May be the mad crisp lady is holding the OP hostage.
