breastfeeding in the supermarket

Ok so I'm all for breastfeeding and think all mums should (assuming mother/baby are able to) but WALKING AROUND SAINSBURYS breastfeeding. . . Seriously? ?

Maybe it's only me that's shocked and I am not a mum myself if that makes a difference.
Don't get me wrong I certainly disagree with mums being ushered into toilets and the like but I felt a bit of modesty could have avoided awkwardness for both mum and others she may come across.

I have no issue with nudity either, i enjoy sunbathing topless and strolling around my home in various states of undress but I couldn't imagine ever feeling comfortable doing this myself

The last thing I expected on a Saturday afternoon trip to sainsburys was to round the corner of an aisle to come face to face with a woman with her top down and FULL BOOB OUT (I saw nipple and all!) strolling down the home entertainment aisle feeding baby. Yes I know this is what they are intended for but when men aren't allowed to enter shirtless is this not a bit much? Had she been sat outside the store on the benches or in a cafe (if they had one) I guess i or anyone else wouldn't have batted an eyelid

She wasn't topless though. was she? And men's shirtlessness serves no purpose, except to cool them down show off their tats and beer bellies. This woman was feeding her child.

What did you want her to do? If you're in the middle of shopping and your baby is hungry, you feed the baby.

Wow I'm impressed she can do that! Was the baby sat in the trolley.It's better than giving them crisps and then paying for the empty packet at the end.

I've done it. I walked around Monkey World breastfeeding DS in a sling, just like the monkeys were doing with their babies. DS is almost 3 and still breastfeeding, does that offend you too?

Generally they don't let you eat food in a supermarket you've not bought there, so really they should have thrown the baby out.

The real question is this: was the mum eating grapes she'd not yet paid for?

I fed whilst walking around the supermarket many a time, DD was either in the sling or in my arms and tbh I'd rather feed her for 5 minutes and have a happy baby than have to deal with a screaming baby whilst I shopped.

Why should anyone feel uncomfortable by a woman breastfeeding her baby? And if they did why is that her problem?

Tbh i dont think anyone should be eating or drinkng in shops. That includes those in waitroise who drink their coffee and stop their trolley in front of me. Same with breast feeding. In cafe no problem but walking around shopping.. (Jealous Of mother who can multitask that well )

Would you feel better about it if it was Asda? Or Waitrose?

can I ask why you would be ok with her feeding outside the shop/in café but not in the aisles? Why would it be any different?

IMO YANBU - I'm all for breastfeeding (am doing so with my own DS) but I'd never dream of walking around shopping and doing so, but maybe that's just me?! My DS needed feeding while we were out shopping today and I did so in the car before we went into the supermarket.

And yes, as MrsGently says she was probably hoping for that scenario so she could go running to the press... You are that sort of story all of the time now in the papers.

If she is comfortable with that then so am I. I would not feel comfortable being exposed, so always try to feed discreetly for my own sake but if other women are comfortable feeding that way, good for them

Sadly in our society you can't do this without being stared at, which is the real problem here.

Apart from that it is a complete non issue. Get over yourself.

Ooh, op. You'd hate me, I've done it everywhere! I had a very needy, agitated, stressed baby who fed every hour or two for months and months. If I had had to stop and hide myself when he needed feeding I honestly would not have been able to get anything done. Needs must, I'm afraid.
