breastfeeding in the supermarket

Ok so I'm all for breastfeeding and think all mums should (assuming mother/baby are able to) but WALKING AROUND SAINSBURYS breastfeeding. . . Seriously? ?

Maybe it's only me that's shocked and I am not a mum myself if that makes a difference.
Don't get me wrong I certainly disagree with mums being ushered into toilets and the like but I felt a bit of modesty could have avoided awkwardness for both mum and others she may come across.

I have no issue with nudity either, i enjoy sunbathing topless and strolling around my home in various states of undress but I couldn't imagine ever feeling comfortable doing this myself

The last thing I expected on a Saturday afternoon trip to sainsburys was to round the corner of an aisle to come face to face with a woman with her top down and FULL BOOB OUT (I saw nipple and all!) strolling down the home entertainment aisle feeding baby. Yes I know this is what they are intended for but when men aren't allowed to enter shirtless is this not a bit much? Had she been sat outside the store on the benches or in a cafe (if they had one) I guess i or anyone else wouldn't have batted an eyelid

Just interested in others opinions

Is this taking things a bit far or perhaps it is just a multitasking achievement extraordinaire?

If she'd been giving a bottle would it have bothered you less?

Then don't do it.

Hmm

How did you manage to see her nipple if she was breast feeding?

For goodness sake, they are a pair of boobs and she was feeding a baby - get over yourself. If it bothered you that much, maybe you shouldn't be staring.

How could you see her nipple if she was feeding the baby?

And why is it okay for you to sunbathe topless but not for a baby to be fed?

There is a lot of nonsense being spoken already on this thread, by people with totally arbitrary 'tolerance boundaries' regarding breastfeeding. It's Western society that has its priorities wrong, getting in a flap about babies having their lunch :(

I'm curious - please clarify how it happened to you. You may have witnessed it, but I thank that it's a stretch for you to say that it happened to you. You were not involved.

Baby was hungry, baby was fed.

Why the angst?

Wow.

A Mother who happens to be feeding her child in the supermarket MUST only be doing so for the sake of the attention...

Couldn't possibly be that her child needed fed Hmm

I'm not uncomfortable with breastfeeding but I am uncomfortable seeing women's breasts in the supermarket

as I said I was interested in opinions and I have them, thank you all

It would appear I'm in the minority and this is more common than I've imagined; maybe others have done so but I've never noticed (slow typing so probably cross posted -sorry)

I've done it but it was a Holland & Barrett, which I suppose makes it ok.... Hmm

I've breastfed whilst walking around supermarkets many times, I've also breastfed in church whilst people kissed my baby on the head during saying of the peace and no one has ever batted an eye.

Funny, most supermarkets have NUTS and playboy and god knows what else on full view.

I wish I'd been able to do that last summer, when DD was tiny and hot and fed every hour, and a trip to our supermarket (no café, no outside seating area) ended with her being a red faced screaming mess and me being stressed, embarrassed, and forgetting half of what I'd come for.

Did you see "women's breasts" or part of a breast?

I would be a bit miffed if I was in Tesco and there were women randomly wandering with their breasts out for no reason what so ever.

I breastfed walking around b&q once. I got a round of applause from some builders in the trade section.

As usual this has turned into 'poor little baby, just wants to be fed'. Well fair enough, but is everyone here honestly saying totally exposing yourself in a supermarket is ok? You can be pro breastfeeding and still think that trying to keep some decency is ok. I know, I know - the only real answer is if you are pro brestfeeding you should whip 'em out whenever, wherever. Once your a mother, your body isn't your own, you leave all sense of personal space at the door, and god help anyone who thinks otherwise.....

I fed everywhere. DD was in a sling and eventually figured out how to help herself! Twas the finest in lazy arse parenting

How was she totally exposing herself?

Report
CostaLotta · 04/07/2015 19:12

If you add a 'But...' onto the sentence 'I'm all for breastfeeding' then you are not 'all for breastfeeding'. Really can't see the difference in where she fed her baby whether it was the aisle, cafe or bench. Each to their own. My baby DS is 4 weeks and has so far been fed in tesco, in the chemist, in the park, in marks and spencer, on various benches around town and in Church. If he wants feeding then I feed him wherever I am!

Ok, exposing her breasts in a supermarket. Exposing much of her self then if you want to be pedantic.
