AIBU?

Are my dresses unreasonable for the school run?

I wore the black dress yesterday (see pics) and got a filthy stare off a woman pushing a buggy on the school pick up. I don't think I had my kids with me at that point. I later wore the dress to a Christian youth group, in fact I wore it to the office earlier the same day and it seemed fine. Today I had both kids on the way to school, I was wearing the dark red dress with a black cardigan. I got another long glare from the same woman, it was her staring that made me realise it was her again! I wouldn't wear the dark red dress to the office and I have pinned it to make it less low on the bust. They are both soft jersey dresses. But are they really that bad and does it make a difference whether I'm a mother or on the school run as to whether these outfits are appropriate?

There used to be a man who worked at my local Sainsburys who said every single week for years 'it's nice to see two sisters out together!' when I was with small dd.

I have a sneaking hunch that he may have said (and still be saying) it to all mother-daughter pairs who shop there. But if I'd thought about it, I would have taken some pictures of my tits for the internet, just to be sure.

Are you taking the piss?

Why not just post 'Aibu to think I look amazing'

As for the 'she was muslim' comment. Yabu and offensive.

Maybe she has overheard your bigoted comments her self and just doesnt like you.

Op, those dresses are plain, everyday dresses. Nothing about them would draw looks of admiration or jealousy.
Your racist remarks are offensive and give us an insight into your ignorance and narrow mindedness.
Your chest is not all that, really it's not.
First rule of selfies, check your background.

Now, should I wear Birkenstocks or Wellies to put the washing out? Hang on the lady next door is From Turkey. Once she spots my footwear she will give me the death stare. See how ridiculous your post is now OP.

I do sometimes get stares because I look much younger than I am, apparently.

How do the people staring know this? Surely they'd just see a 12 year old and not give it a second thought, not look at you and think 'oh wow, that 78 year old looks 12!'

Christian Street preachers called you a prostitute?

This poor individual certainly seems to attract an unholy and completely unbelievable amount of negative attention when she's out and about, doesn't she?

"But I know how you feel - recently I was asked if I were my five year old's daughter."

I have to say, having spent most of my mid to late twenties trying to convince the world that I was indeed an employee and not on work experience, I can honestly say that I've never had any glares. I feel left out now. :(

P.S. I look my age now which is unfortunate.

Are you sure that pic belongs to you OP and you haven't 'borrowed' it from someone?

I only ask because you're coming across as seriously misguided.

You're just another parent in the playground...we're all just another parent in the playground.

The 'stare' was probably the woman looking right through you and wondering if she has enough potatoes in for dinner.

WTAF? You look like a 5 year old? Seriously? I think you are a tad on the deluded side OP

You know plenty of Muslim women wear dresses just like that under their outerwear don't you OP? Perhaps she was just trying to guess where you got in from so she could buy one to wear for dinner at home with her husband.

It's just in public or in front of other men they wear hijab.

I also don't understand why you automatically assumed she was staring you because of your dress. Maybe you had something on your face? Maybe she thought you were staring at her? Maybe she's been on the receiving end of some anti-muslim abuse recently and was apprehensive? Maybe she was daydreaming? Maybe she was worried about money/family/work issues? Maybe you look familiar? Maybe she hated your face?

Ooooh Merry the ginger ice cream sounds divine.. Need to get that!

I too loved the Chunky Monkey one

Don't bother with Sainsburys Salted Caramel and Peanut though, 'twas vile, which is confusing because they're some of my favourite things Sad

Is OP old enough for ice cream, do we think?

Don't be ridiculous! The inference was clearly that she looked like her five-year-old's YOUNGER sister, so around 3 or 4. Hmm

A woman, at a Leona Lewis concert, looked at DH and I and said it was really lovely to see a young girl out with her dad! She didn't glare, DH might have done!

Another one confused as to why you would think it was because of the dresses, there's nothing ott about them Confused Could maybe understand if you were getting stares off lots of people but then like someone else said I would be more inclined to think it was more dress caught in knickers or something similar lol!

I couldn't tell you a single outfit that anyone was wearing this morning (or any other) far too busy battling with my ds over wearing his sun hat.

That reminds me I need to go and make my bed....
