Are my dresses unreasonable for the school run?

I wore the black dress yesterday (see pics) and got a filthy stare off a woman pushing a buggy on the school pick up. I don't think I had my kids with me at that point. I later wore the dress to a Christian youth group, in fact I wore it to the office earlier the same day and it seemed fine. Today I had both kids on the way to school, I was wearing the dark red dress with a black cardigan. I got another long glare from the same woman, it was her staring that made me realise it was her again! I wouldn't wear the dark red dress to the office and I have pinned it to make it less low on the bust. They are both soft jersey dresses. But are they really that bad and does it make a difference whether I'm a mother or on the school run as to whether these outfits are appropriate?

Username - "MynameisPinkiePie" - Big Clue there! Grin

Just ignore 'looks' and 'stares'.
If you're happy with what you're wearing, then carry on wearing it.
I don't see anything wrong with your choice of clothing, but wonder if this is not actually the reason someone might be glaring at you.
Or, as others have said, they've probably got other things on their mind, and you are the very last on it.

formerbabe · 01/07/2015 11:37

Do you think she was looking at you because you were wearing brown shoes with a black dress? (head tilt)

loveliesbleeding1 · 01/07/2015 11:37

Strange.

TongueBiter · 01/07/2015 11:39

Nice wallpaper Grin

BertPuttocks · 01/07/2015 11:39

Was the dress accidentally tucked into the back of a pair of Peppa Pig knickers?

That would certainly explain the stares and the confusion about being the sister of a 5yr-old.

loveliesbleeding1 · 01/07/2015 11:39

Did you have a long piece of loo roll hanging out the back?did you check?

ShipShapeAhoy · 01/07/2015 11:39

It may not be a long or negative judgement but people do create little pictures base on tiny snapshots..

Good point. I'm judging you right now and it isn't in a positive way.

Sparklingbrook · 01/07/2015 11:40

i thought the wallpaper a bit busy Tongue. Grin

First selfie I have seen for a while with a reasonably clean mirror though.

MerryMarigold · 01/07/2015 11:42

Glistens, I'm thinking of making a peanut butter/ banana smoothie for lunch, but don't have any bananas. Sad. I do have crystallised ginger, but I ate all my dark choc yesterday so can't even whip myself up some ice cream. Oh well. I'll have to watch this thread instead.

GoodbyeToAllOfThat · 01/07/2015 11:42

OP prefers taking selfies to making her bed.

This made me LOLz.

Battleshiphips · 01/07/2015 11:43

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this but why does it seem to be only religious people who comment on you OP. None of the Muslim ladies at our school bat an eyelid when I stroll up with my boobs looking like 2 beach balls trying to escape my top.

penguinsaresmall · 01/07/2015 11:44

Nobody likes a show-off battleship Grin

velourvoyageur · 01/07/2015 11:47

You look gorgeous OP and it was only one person so don't worry about it :)

I like the idea of dressing up a bit everyday. I like jeans as much as anyone but would rather wear a dress.

MerryMarigold · 01/07/2015 11:47

I think the Christians were thrown in, so that the anti Muslim comments were 'balanced out'.

But I like Ginger Ice cream, I may be wrong.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 01/07/2015 11:48

Worra nailed it in her first post. YOU think that YOU look great, OP. That's all the counts, eh?

Don't be a dick though, your later posts are really off. If you want to pose for 'likes' then do but keep it in perspective. I think the dress is a bit short for you and possibly a bit low but then I subscribe to the boobs OR legs, NOT both, school of thought.

BathshebaDarkstone · 01/07/2015 11:49

Is there a dress code for the school run? Confused

BitOfFun · 01/07/2015 11:49

I doubt she was thinking anything much, apart from perhaps wondering why you were wearing dark winter party frocks on the hottest day of the year.

Trufflethewuffle · 01/07/2015 11:50

They look very ordinary outfits to me. The colours and fabric sound a bit much for the hot weather but nothing to cause a stare.

Are you sure she wasn't looking at your stylish sandals?

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 01/07/2015 11:50

snort at Penguin and being asked if she was her 5 year old's daughter! GrinGrin

nancy75 · 01/07/2015 11:51

did you say you had a cardigan on? I would give you funny looks too - it was 28 degrees when i left the house this morning - you must have been boiling

MyNameIsPinkiePie · 01/07/2015 11:53

All I really wanted to know is whether I'm dressed inappropriately, whether I am offending people with flashing a bit (or too much) cleavage - religious or otherwise I don't want to be getting it so wrong.

And no I wasn't staring first. I had a pushchair and holding a child's hand, I have to concentrate on that (I have some mobility issues). I also had sunglasses on and usually can't tell if someone is looking if they have sunglasses. I was surprised to get the stare.

I didn't want to go down the line of jealousy because I'm sure it wasn't that, based on potential beliefs regarding modesty (I've discussed this with friends but never felt they judged others for not following the same rules), she probably didn't think I look good or slim or rich or whatever else. She may however have been disapproving and I wondered if that could be the case. Is it my problem for dressing badly or am I dressed fine and should ignore other people staring or even judging?

BathshebaDarkstone · 01/07/2015 11:54

If I'm admiring someone's clothes I'll tell them and ask where they got them from. I suppose some people are just too shy.

OstentatiousBreastfeeder · 01/07/2015 11:55

Seriously though?

If I saw someone wearing a LBD on a school run I'd probably think wtf too.

If this even happened.
