Friend today was Hmm when she saw my nails and said at 28 I was circa 10 years too old to have my nails painted like this.

Opinions please, and feel free to share picture of equally age inappropriate nails.

MyCar have you tried Sally Hansen 'Hard as Nails', it worked really well for me a couple of years ago when I wrecked my nails with acrylics.

Cliffdiver I think I may have some ... will have a root around and give it a go next time. Because of this thread I've just dug out 5 of my Sally Hansen instadrys and done my nails with those - very badly tho ha ha!

I'd laugh in her face the cheeky cow! I'm 37 and will shamelessly wear these nails, which I do myself at home. My nail art equipment takes up a whole cupboard Grin

I'm a nail tech and loads of my clients including those in their 50s, 60s and 70s love bright colours, glitter and nail art. My hot pink gel polish is the most popular shade and we do lots of sets of acrylics with glitter tips.
I did some fab ladybird nail art on a client just yesterday Smile

Are all these nails done at home or in salon? Since I discovered shellac I've stopped doing my own at home because I could never ever get them to stay unchipped for longer than 24 hours. There must be some big secret I'm missing?

Mine are lilac/blue at present. Love bright colours. Occasionally strip it back and get a French polish. But generally have some sort of "signature" nail in there too. Though tend to get little finger

Might go glitter next time...

Can you tell from the pic? Hot pink blended into orange! I'm 44.

Fuck this nail-art-and-glitter-is-for-teenagers bollocks.

Cliffs over you wouldn't believe how many people asked me that and how I wiped my arse when I had those on Grin but funny enough, you just adapt, and seriously I managed everything just fine.

Jointhejoyride I do my own at home using shellac and either a uv or led lamp. I've went a bit bonkers last year cos I was off my feet after an operation for a few months, and stuck home. Amazon has a lot to answer for Blush

I think the key to them not chipping is good preparation of the nails beforehand and several thin coats of polish. When I first started I didn't do this at first and they'd always peel, but now they're good for up to three weeks, and then they soak off.

I love fannying about with my nails. I'm seriously dieting at the moment and so it's like my cake, crisps, chocolate and booze all rolled into one!

I love the pictures everybody's putting on.... Maybe we could just have this as a nail appreciation thread, and post up all our efforts?

I've done marbling. I've tried it about 20 times and only one time resulted in an acceptable look. I wouldn't bother if I were you!

Yesterday's effort, otherwise know as the 'letting a 12 year old loose with you nail polish' look! Grin

Done in the half-light this evening, to be tidied up in the morning.
Thumb is dark metallic blue, index finger = indigo blue, middle finger = dark green, ring finger = dark copper, little finger = metallic teal blue. All with a coat of smoky dark green glitter.

Ooh lovely. I'm really jealous. Against my better judgement I had my nails done at a salon I hadn't been to about two or three months ago, and they did foil extensions using a gel that has to be filed off. The extensions were meant to be ombré French manicure, but they looked so awful I went literally straight to nails inc and had them filed off and cut back. Gutted doesn't even begin to describe. So now I'm growing the damage out, and sticking to my own skills, just doing shellac overlays at home, but can't wait til I have grown out the damaged bits, cow I do like to use tips now and again. Except when I do them at home, I don't bugger my nails! I can't even have them long naturally right now as they're too weak, so clipping them right back and keeping them manicured is the best I can manage. Sad
