DH and I have had a long standing disagreement regarding the DC using the word fart - I won't allow it and he has pointed out to the DC's that it is not a 'bad word but just one that I don't like them using.

AIBU? or is he?

Dd2 has just told me that everyone in her school says, 'epic' for fart

she is a girl who farts an unbelievable amount, when she is asleep it sounds as though there is a brass band in the room - she needs good words for farts.

MerryMarigold · 24/06/2015 10:04

Hazey, I suppose it's like 'sick', reversing it out. But ds1 says 'epic' all the time if something is great. He'd be lost if that word was appropriated to farts!

I wasn't allowed to say fart, OR trump as a child. We had to say fluff. Have you fluffed?

I will be going with trump i think. I don't like to hear small children say Fart. Its more for older primary age i think.

Grin Have you fluffed? Grin

God that's funny. This is why it is good command of vulgarity sad an adult, so you don't inflict worse things on your children.

On a similar note my gran had a cupboard she referred to as a glory hole Shock which I also naively referred to as a glory hole until I killed my bf with laughter at 18.

...Good to have a decent command of vulgarity as an adult..(typing with duff hand while breastfeeding results in odd autocorrects)

grannytomine · 24/06/2015 10:41

I don't mind fart but I don't like piss. I don't know why, it just grates on me but I suppose wee it rather twee as well.

MitzyLeFrouf · 24/06/2015 10:44

Piss is a bit coarse, I wouldn't let a child use that. Fart is such a nice fluttery word.

BertieBotts · 24/06/2015 20:16

Fart just isn't a swearword in any way. Piss, arse, crap and bloody are swearwords. Bloody probably the mildest one. DS repeated it after hearing Stampy (I think?) say it and it just sounded wrong, I asked him not to say it any more.

I'm unsure about turd. Any opinions on that one? I wouldn't expect DS to say it but then it's not a word I use anyway.

Blackadder: "Percy, the devil farts in my face once more."

Lady Whiteadder: "Not mentioning farts was also a condition (of your inheritance)."

And in the respectable magazine that is New Scientist, one of the Last Word questions was once "Fish don't fart, why is this?"
