Every year it seems to be the same, we have the longest day June 21 or thereabouts and you can count on one hand how many days you've actually spent not wearing a cardi, shrug, light jacket or warm fleece and have gone bare legged in sandals and a sun dress.

So far my tally is one!

We've had a couple of days away and the house is freezing. The warmest room ie the one with only 1 outside wall shows a temp of 19 which means the other rooms ie the living room is about 14 .

So with leaden grey skies outside, and a shower of rain...the heating is well and truly on.

From the posts here I didn't realise how diverse our climate is. As another poster said we could move .

Many do and I'm full of admiration for them . I however couldn't. Family means too much to me.
I just have to suck it up ( apart from the occasional rant and not necessarily on MN either). However I'm glad I'm not alone in feeling like I do and I sympathise with our Scottish mums I think you have it far worse than us. My grandfather was from Fife, had he not moved south I could have been worse off.

Interesting about the comment from the mum in n Wales who hasn't had the heating on since April . We were in that area ( Porthmadog ) about two weeks ago and it did feel warmer even when the weather turned cooler. It rained up in betwys coed . Annoying but not really cold like it was in Edinburgh.. a few days before we had been in Carmarthen and Tenby and that was comfortably warm As long as I took a just in case cardi.

So, as I look out of the window at another leaden sky and the heating has been on for about 30 minutes I'll just have to content myself that I live in one of the most beautiful diverse countries I know and I'm fortunate to have travelled round most of it. Haven't done Lincolnshire, the western isles of Scotland , aberdeen or ireland yet but they are on my bucket list.

Just popped our heating on for an hour. It's taken the downstairs from 16 degrees to 18 degrees.

Sparrowlegs248 · 19/06/2015 12:05

We have had the heating on about 4 times since march. We never have it on in the mornings, during the week as both get up ready and leave for work quickly. We have oil ch and an old solid walled house which takes an age to heat so would have to be on several hours to make a difference.

This will all change this year with the arrival of a baby!

CattyCatCat · 19/06/2015 12:05

So envious of the posters having a beautiful summer in Cornwall. The North had summer last week. It's gone totally now.

TorrAlexandra · 19/06/2015 12:11

Opposite problem for me I'm afraid. We live in an apartment building in London and all our (floor to ceiling) windows face west, so on sunny days the place is like an oven. Not uncommon to come home and have the thermostat showing 36° in summer...

Dowser · 19/06/2015 13:49

Wow Alexandra. I know you can have too much of a good thing.

I know when we were in Tenerife last sept we got late afternoon sunshine so the apartment was about 29-30 on an evening and did not cool down.

Sleep was virtually impossible and as for a bit of the other ;-) forget it!

Oh god, the outfit crises I have had this week! Too hot. Too cold. Too wet. Too hot again. Now too cold again. Had to meet clients and dress 'smartly' for the hot, freezing, wet weather. What shoes? What jacket??

More than once I've had to purchase something climate appropriate whilst out and about. Yesterday it was a hoodie :)

MorrisZapp · 20/06/2015 12:55

Bring on fucking Majorca is the weary refrain in our gaff.

Dowser · 20/06/2015 13:11

The sun finally came out for about 10 mins about 8 pm last night and I felt like saying ' you can bloody piss off at this time of night as well!'

I mean what good is that!

I'm in North Yorkshire and the weather is depressing me. I've had to turn the heating on to try and dry some clothes. Every time I put some out on the line it rains. It is cold and dull. We got soaked earlier going to the shop Sad

minionmadness · 20/06/2015 13:28

Midlands here and although the sun isn't shining it's warm enough for a t.shirt. No central heating on since April here.

I do believe that the number of warm sunny days is declining year on year though and the bottom half of the country gets more of them than the tops half does.

DH's family in and around London and it always feels a few degrees warmer than it does when we leave home.

Although I don't like it too hot (did when younger though) it would be nice to have at least a couple of the summer months where the temperature could remain around 24 in the main. i reckon more people would holiday in this country if this was the case. We are off to Cornwall for our summer break and although it will be great whatever the weather it will definitely be a bonus if the sun shines every day.

IamMummyhearmeROAR · 20/06/2015 14:17

We are still lighting the fire most evenings and every night I am still in fleece Jammies with a hot water bottle.

lessthanBeau · 20/06/2015 14:19

summer was on Tuesday in east Yorkshire, doesn't look like its about to return anytime soon. so sick of this weather.
my timehop app has been showing 20 -24° for the same dates in the last 4 years, lovely pics of us in paddling pools and at seaside.
what's happened this year?

Eversobusyeveryday · 20/06/2015 15:45

Been lovely all week in London, had sports day and prize giving in glorious sunshine, kids have eaten dinner outside every evening and I had 10 kids in the garden after school yesterday till 6pm without any of them coming inside even once. Rather grey today but not at all cold

OhMrGove · 20/06/2015 15:51

Move south OP, or grow a pair !

It's plenty warm in Fulham

Bunbaker · 20/06/2015 15:56

"It's been roasting here (Kent coast) for a few weeks."

I think I will have to move to Kent. I am in a long sleeve t-shirt with a thick cardigan. It has been cool to cold here this last week. The forecast here for the next few days is 13 deg, 13 deg, 17 deg, 17 deg Sad - South Yorkshire.

Bunbaker · 20/06/2015 15:57

And anyone who comes on here to moan about the hot weather can f**k off.

BakewellSlice · 20/06/2015 16:07

In Scotland here and fed up of May and June so far.

There was a pleasant 24 hours last week that ended at 3pm on the Friday and it's been windy and cold like November ever since. Leaden skies are depressing at the summer solstice.

I'm in Berkshire and we seem to have hot parts to the day but not the full day. Today is decidedly grey and wet though. No heating on though as not that cold but definitely a cardigan day.

dementedma · 20/06/2015 17:29

Been cold and grey today all day at outdoor event with spits of rain. Now event is over the sun is shining bit still cold and windy.
Absolutely fed up with this non summer in Scotland. Still in winter clothes.

Eversobusyeveryday · 20/06/2015 18:55

Forecast for London the next few days: 21,19, 23,24,26, not overly keen on 19 and rain but the rest looks good to me
