To ask you to phone the Saudi embassy tomorrow morning

The Saudi Supreme Court has just upheld the sentence of 10 years in prison and 1000 lashes against the blogger Raif Badawi. He could be flogged again tomorrow.

This is a very moving video about Raif made by his ten year old son

Amnesty are asking people to phone the Saudi embassy in London before 10 tomorrow to ask them to halt the flogging and free Raif unconditionally.

You can phone 02079173000 and either choose option 2 or hold.

YANBU, from what I understand his crime is encouraging debate and discussion online, something we do here on MN every day and it never even crosses my mind that I could be flogged for it.

Hello again. Will there be a protest outside the embassy (is it the one next to the Royal Geographic Society?)

chocolateyay · 11/06/2015 19:43

oh no, its here: 30 Charles Street, London W1J 5DZ if anyone is interested.

TheCrowFromBelow · 11/06/2015 19:46

I think that covers quite a broad spectrum of things we take for granted here, that you'd be flogged for in Saudi.

It's a terrible and cruel punishment for any crime.

You realise that tomorrow is Friday, not the best day to give a Muslim consulate a ring.

Also Ramadam is starting in less than a week

beatricequimby · 11/06/2015 19:48

Does anyone know if there are any protests outside London? I haven't been able to find anything. Am in Scotland.

Why? Genuine question.

ClareAbshire · 11/06/2015 19:53

Definitely will! And signed petition.

beatricequimby · 11/06/2015 19:53

Would maybe expect them to be closed on a Friday for religious reasons but apparently they are open 9-3.

The Saudi embassy will be open tomorrow. They operate Mon-Fri as are based in the UK.

WendyTorrance · 11/06/2015 19:53

Just signed the petition.
