I just dont get it.

i find him menacing too Grin i always think he sort of based his act on kenneth williams, who was a bit camp just a tad

SisterNancySinatra · 31/05/2015 20:34

I think it's what gets him laughs . I think otherwise he's pretty much one dimensional and he wAs funny with the other guy. There's not a lot he does on he's own ( apart from writing books).

LIZS · 31/05/2015 20:34

He is so gay, or maybe bi. I think he likes to reinvent himself so don't take his autobiography as gospel. Doesn't he have a baby with ex?

AllKnickersNoFurCoat · 31/05/2015 20:35

I hate 'campness' because I feel it's mocking femininity. So few women act 'camp'. I dunno. I guess I'd hate that coy flirty effete shit from a woman as well.

NorbertDentressangle · 31/05/2015 20:36

Hassled, yes "menacing" is a good description. I know what you mean.

XiCi · 31/05/2015 20:38

You are very naive if you think he is straight because he has a model ex. These women are known as 'beards' and have contracts to act as girlfriends, they get publicity and the guy appears straight. A la Bradley Cooper and suki Waterhouse, Taylor Swift and Harry styles etc etc etc

FiveExclamations · 31/05/2015 20:39

AllKnickersNoFurCoat Genuine non shirty question, does "butchness" in women bother you too?

DrFoxtrot · 31/05/2015 20:39

My first boyfriend was exactly like this, completely camp but straight. Some people are just like that.

corlan · 31/05/2015 20:39

Harry Styles was definitely straight when I snagged him.

ssd · 31/05/2015 20:40

fair enough if he's gay, dont really care either way, just wondering why he has to put on the annoying camp shit all the time?

OP posts:
LikeIcan · 31/05/2015 20:41

Is Harry Styles gay?

nancy75 · 31/05/2015 20:41

Why would David walliams bother having a beard? His partner in little Britain is openly gay, and David is as camp as Christmas, he is hardly trying to cover it up

LikeIcan · 31/05/2015 20:44

Exactly nancy. & didn't he write that book about a boy in a dress? He's not exactly hiding it is he lol

SisterNancySinatra · 31/05/2015 20:45

Then perhaps he's bi, is being bi -sexual actually socially acceptable nowadays for celebrities ? I don't know, perhaps it's still abit iffey for them to come out as bi-sexual. I can't think of many celebs who actually come out as bi-sexual.

Heleng1982 · 31/05/2015 20:46

love him he's the only reason I watch Smile Smile

SaulGood · 31/05/2015 20:46

I think he just has a persona in public. His humour isn't my cup of tea but I love his books. I think he hams it up in the same way Stephen Mulhern pretends he's a likeable human being Wink. It's part of their sales pitch.

I know a very effete woman as an aside. It's not something you see often. She has all of the characteristics of a camp man in terms of her mannered, affected demeanour but encased in a Mum on the school run. It's quite strange to see and I never quite know if it's affectation or natural. She seems to be permanently on the verge of doing an Alan Carr impersonation.

1Morewineplease · 31/05/2015 20:47

The word I'm thinking of is "disturbing"

Shoemakerelves · 31/05/2015 20:47

He may be bi sexual, he may be straight. Like others have said why would he of all people cover it up. It's not as if he's a leading man.

I personally think he's gorgeous and the campness certainly doesn't put me off.

Most transvestites are straight and married

OrlandoWoolf · 31/05/2015 20:47

just wondering why he has to put on the annoying camp shit all the time?

I know a couple of gay men. One is "camp" - but that's just him. Is it "innate" or a reaction to being gay. He's also a hairdresser. If you're going for a stereotype, he fits it perfectly.

The other one is as uncamp as can be. That's just him.

Is it "put on" or is it the way it is? If it's put on, that's annoying. People should be themselves and not play up to a stereotype as it feeds the stereotype.

Moominmarvellous · 31/05/2015 20:48

I thought we were kind of beyond hiding sexuality these days?

It's one thing if someone chooses not to disclose their sexuality publicly, but to actually fake a relationship to pretend?

Maybe I'm a classic media fool thinking 'they wouldnt LIE to us surely?!' Grin

NerrSnerr · 31/05/2015 20:49

He acts so camp because it is either natural to him or he wants to. Can't think of any other reason. As for whether he is straight, gay, bi, or anything else I couldn't give a monkeys. His sexual orientation does not affect his persona on telly and is none of my business.

yetanotherchangename · 31/05/2015 20:50

I'm very camp and I'm a straight female.

Arsenic · 31/05/2015 20:50

I dont think he's gay, his ex was a model

Grin Oh bless your cotton socks Grin

RudeBarbandCustard · 31/05/2015 20:51

I think he's the one person with the least need to cover up his sexuality if he was gay - his work partner is openly gay, and he plays camp / in drag and is very popular for it. So I cannot see why he would ever need to hide it if he was gay.

So i assume that his marriage was genuine, and he's just camp.

I agree there's something menacing about him, it's the cheshire cat grin I think. I quite like him though, by all accounts he's a really nice guy.

SaulGood · 31/05/2015 20:53

Can somebody write this shit down because there some unwritten rules out there nobody told me about.

Married to a model = straight
Wrote a book about a boy in a dress = homosexual

I can't keep up with the rules anymore. I'm off to trim my pampas grass.
