To Object to the Garden being used by our neighbours.

When we brought our house we brought it because of its corner plot and large garden.

We get on well with our neighbours, they kindly asked if they could have a party at the end of our garden as they do not have the space in theirs.
We allowed them to use our garden because we wanted to keep the relationship good.

Yesterday I saw her put up a washing line in our garden! Shock

Neighbour must have thought that we were out, because dh took the teens on a day trip and must of thought I was out with them.

I am not happy that our land is being used and treated as an extension of their garden. We were kind enough to the leave the gate between our fences open in case their dc kick the ball over. Put this is taking the piss. She didn't even ask me.

YANBU. Nip it in the bud now, politely but firmly. DB and sil had a hole in their hedge and came home one day to find ndn's kids bouncing on their trampoline. Hole got filled in.

Yanbu. I would not be happy about this.

Not trying to outdo you but I once looked out the window to see a woman up lived further up road standing on in my garden chatting to some children who'd congregated in that bit of my garden. I went out and not so politely asked to go away. The woman looked at me as if I was weird.

You know like my garden was a public garden or something Confused

Oooh, wasn't there a similar thread about a swimming pool years back? The brass necked neighbours just didn't get it. Definitely get the gate locked.

Ask your neighbour if she's ever stolen a house in Mexico. Apparently she's a garden thief and it can only really be a slippery slope from there. Grin

She put up the washing line at about 10am took it down at 3pm. I haven't been well so I didn't want to approach her. I think that we allowed them to use our garden has given her that impression glorious.

Just go and take it down OP! Shocking behaviour! If she says anything then say "Oh...I thought it was something I'd overlooked when we moved in...either way I don't want it there so down it comes!" and smile. Then don't engage in any further conversation.

Is this attaching a line to a staple on your property or installation of a rotary pole?

If its the former then be miffed but, providing her under crackers don't end up on your side, I would leave it.

Sticking a full wash line in your garden though, throw it back javelin style!

My inlaws have a tennis court (stealth boast, I know I know, I don't have a tennis court, but they do). One day mil came out of her greenhouse to find that the neighbours had invited friends over for a game of tennis, and they were sitting in inlaws' deckchairs. Mil was all muddy and they actually raised their eyebrows at her and then smirked at each other. She was so shocked that she didn't know what to do, so she just said hello and wandered off. The bastards. Later, enraged fil went round to lay down the law. It turns out their relative owned the land decades ago so they thought they were entitled to use it. They've moved now, thank goodness.

OP, YANBU. But I think you should have spoken to her there and then, before she hung her pants out to dry in your garden. Ruuuuude.

What type of washing line - did she just pop over with her rotary line?
