to ask if this is an OOH job?

Long story short, months of agonising stomach pain. Back and forth to doctors constantly, told they suspect an ulcer. Been taking tablets so now I get say a week pain free followed by a week in agony.
Doctor told me to book a h.pylori blood test. Can't get through to the phlebotomy service, have been trying for 4 weeks now. Just started a new job and in the middle of training so can't take time off anyway.

Yesterday the pain was so bad all day I felt constantly sick, it was right up in my shoulder as well as my stomach, dizzy, unable to focus, everything. Got worse when I got home from work, couldn't regulate my temperature, had a fever and was in so much pain. My stomach has swollen and it feels like there's a solid lump when im standing up, its literally rock solid. Today I feel marginally better but I'm still stuck in bed, temperature is fairly high and I am in pain. My heart is still skipping beats and jumping all over the place.

I don't know if out of hours could do anything for me. DP is adamant I don't need it but the pain has never left me like this before.

WIBU to go to out of hours? They'll be so busy this weekend :(

Your dp is adamant you don't need medical help?

Is he a doctor?

lljkk · 23/05/2015 20:24

Can you actually get any sleep tonite?

If it was me, and I could sleep tonite, I would plan to go in the morning if it wasn't hugely better.

Good luck.

Justusemyname · 23/05/2015 20:25

Cross posted, I see your partner has issues. I suggest you don't take advice from him regarding medical issues.

Get to hospital, don't have him with you, and I hope you're soon better.

IamtheDevilsAvocado · 23/05/2015 20:26

Please go to A and E...better now than in the dead of night ...

Gabilan · 23/05/2015 20:36

I used to call handle for an OOH service. If everyone had been like you, jorah we'd have been a lot less busy. I'd have put you through as an urgent call with strict instructions to dial 999 if you felt any worse. I'd also have advised the dispatcher that I was worried about you and to put you through to the least busy GP available to get a call back as soon as possible.

All of which is irrelevant as you have people here with actual clinical experience telling you to get to A&E now. It's people who are asymptomatic but worried that they said "hello" to someone with pig flu who are the fucking irritants.

QOD · 23/05/2015 20:41

Just go alone please and worry later about getting back!
You don't need to drag the family along

MrsKCastle · 23/05/2015 20:49

Jorah, I know nothing about medicine, but I'm concerned about you... Please go to A&E. Posters who are medically trained have advised you to get checked out. Please do.

jorahmormont · 23/05/2015 21:18

I'd be sat on a metal chair for ages, I appreciate what you're all saying and I really appreciate the advice, but I'd be worse off stuck in a&e (its one of the worst in the UK for waiting times) than at home overnight, with the out of hours number close by and a comfy sofa and bed, and then re assessing the situation in the morning.

SmillasSenseOfSnow · 23/05/2015 21:29

If you suddenly collapse on the floor with hypovolaemic shock (for example) then it'd be far better that you did so in the A&E waiting room than anywhere else...

BishopBrennansArse · 23/05/2015 21:30

If you make it.
I'm not saying that to be a cow, I'm really not.
Have you actually thought through the consequences of doing nothing?

In the nicest possible way, why did you post if you're going to ignore everyone?
Rarely does MN agree that someone should go to A&E.
You have symptoms that a surgeon is concerned about.
For god's sake woman, go to A&E! Please Thanks

ipswichwitch · 23/05/2015 21:36

You'll not be worse off in a&be if it is a perforated ulcer though. Seriously. You need to get there now. At the very least they may give you the antibiotics so you're not waiting til Monday (not a good idea to wait to start treatment if it is a uti) but I'll bet my arm it's not just a uti. If they just did the dipstick test for this it may be inaccurate anyway - DS2 was diagnosed with a uti on the basis of a positive dipstick. They sent his sample off for microscopy and that was negative.

Theboxtrollsareallowed · 23/05/2015 21:36

Are you feeling better? Worse or the same?

bittapitta · 23/05/2015 21:40

Call 111 and let them decide to call you an ambulance then.

WiIdfire · 23/05/2015 21:40

Another surgeon here - agree with YellowDinosaur. This sounds like an A&E visit needed, not just a 'see how it goes'. Symptoms could well be a perforated ulcer.

PixieChops · 23/05/2015 21:42

I think you should go to the hospital. But I know you'll ignore me as much as everyone else. Don't get why you're asking for advice when others are telling you the same thing. It's just coming across as attention seeking now. Plus your partner sounds like an inconsiderate arsehole

Justusemyname · 23/05/2015 21:43

I'm assuming you're scared, OP rather than being over dramatic or just attention seeking?

Get yourself checked out. You'll have strangers worrying about you other wise.

VelvetRose · 23/05/2015 21:48

What is the worst case scenario if you go to a and e?

What is the worst case scenario if you don't?

Momagain1 · 23/05/2015 21:48

She's BEEN! Appointment at 2 pm, and reported in at 2:17 pm! Bottom of page one! Current issue is getting prescription filled!

VelvetRose · 23/05/2015 21:50

If you go to a and e and the receptionist even thinks you have something serious you will not be sat in the metal chairs at all.

BoreOfWhabylon · 23/05/2015 21:53

Momagain - she saw a nurse whose diagnosis and treatment recommendation is being questioned by every surgeon, doctor and nurse who has posted on the thread since.

jorahmormont · 23/05/2015 21:53

I'm sorry, everyone, and I've been there shouting at the screen for a poster to go to a&, I know how frustrating it is.

I'm scared of hospitals, scared of doctors, scared of being told im being a baby over this pain but also scared of being told its something bad. I am really scared, im sorry.

VelvetRose · 23/05/2015 21:53

She went to see a nurse practitioner.
