Long story short, months of agonising stomach pain. Back and forth to doctors constantly, told they suspect an ulcer. Been taking tablets so now I get say a week pain free followed by a week in agony.
Doctor told me to book a h.pylori blood test. Can't get through to the phlebotomy service, have been trying for 4 weeks now. Just started a new job and in the middle of training so can't take time off anyway.

Yesterday the pain was so bad all day I felt constantly sick, it was right up in my shoulder as well as my stomach, dizzy, unable to focus, everything. Got worse when I got home from work, couldn't regulate my temperature, had a fever and was in so much pain. My stomach has swollen and it feels like there's a solid lump when im standing up, its literally rock solid. Today I feel marginally better but I'm still stuck in bed, temperature is fairly high and I am in pain. My heart is still skipping beats and jumping all over the place.

I don't know if out of hours could do anything for me. DP is adamant I don't need it but the pain has never left me like this before.

WIBU to go to out of hours? They'll be so busy this weekend :(

Thanks for bumping indomitable and thanks for info soldier.

I'm nervous because everywhere I've read says suicidal thoughts etc are highest in under 25s.

The list of meds I'm on is quickly growing and it only seems to be getting worse :(

Hopefully I won't be too knocked out, back to work in the morning!

Amitriptyline made me yawn, a lot. Not just for tiredness, just a 'tic' thing. I had no suicidal thoughts. The leaflets have to list every possible side effect, and Dr Google rarely gives a good outcome! Try not to worry.

Strawberryshakes · 04/06/2015 20:25

hope you feel better soon Flowers

I was on amitriptyline for some nerve pain and anxiety (I have hypochondria so i would be an utter mess if I was going through what you are) and it was great. It was the first time I stopped worrying about my health for a whole year. I am going to see about going back on it so I wouldn't worry :)

SargeantAngua · 04/06/2015 20:33

I take amitriptyline to help me sleep - only a low dose, and it does that well although I have to time it to 12 hours before I want to get up as it causes some grogginess. Takes a bit of getting used to as well.

My understanding of the suicidal thoughts is that if someone is very depressed they can be too depressed to find the motivation to kill themselves, but starting an antidepressant can initially give them just enough motivation and energy to commit suicide without giving enough antidepressant effect to make them not want to.

SargeantAngua · 04/06/2015 20:34

So if you're taking it for pain, and presumably a low dose, if I understand correctly that shouldn't be a problem.

Skiptonlass · 04/06/2015 20:41

Don't worry too much about the amytryptaline. I suspect the suicidal thoughts side effect is a confounding effect due to the population that takes it. It's used for nerve pain, mand some people who have nerve pains like trigeminal neuralgia for example, are suicidal due to the pain.

Take it, it'll help you sleep and reduce the pain which will in turn reduce muscular tension.

Take the sedation if it's offered for the endoscope - makes you awake but not really caring about what's happening! Much better.

Just read the tablet packet and the prescription says "for ibs symptoms".

I have had IBS and this is nothing like IBS !! Is this seriously why I've been putting up with this since January, because they think it's IBS?

OP posts:
SpringTown46 · 05/06/2015 08:34

Is there any possibility you could go private, at least for an initial consultation?

Stripyhoglets · 05/06/2015 09:28

I take amyltriptiline for pain and have done for years now. Just felt happier on it as pain stopped. IBS can cause excruciating pain if your bowel spasms but they shouldn't diagnose that till other stuff is ruled out.

jorahmormont · 05/06/2015 18:37

It's too high for IBS though :( and the pain is nothing like it. Childbirth doesn't compare to the pain I've had recently. IBS has never made me want to die to get away from it :(

Amitriptiline seems to have helped although I felt like a zombie.

Thanks for the advice everyone

Sorry to hear that you're still unwell! Did the gp explain what they meant by "fine"?

jorahmormont · 05/06/2015 19:13

Inflammation but nothing else in the blood tests.

shakeyjake · 05/06/2015 19:44

Have you had gallstones checked out? I had to have my gallbladder removed as it was infected and this caused really bad pains in top of the stomach and pains going into my back round the kidney area. I had these symptoms for years and gps just thought was stomach ibs problems.

jorahmormont · 05/06/2015 21:29

Scan ruled out gallstones, although the GP I saw a couple of weeks ago suspects it may be something inflaming my gallbladder.

OP posts:
shakeyjake · 06/06/2015 09:42

Just thought I would mention it as I was told by the surgeon who removed it that it was infected and inflamed and would have been like that for a while. Hope you get some answers soon x

jorahmormont · 06/06/2015 17:24

Thanks shakey

Amitryptiline is working so far. I've eaten today and actually feel able to do stuff! As soon as it wears off the pain is bad but it lasts about 20 hours so it's not too bad :)
