to not want these people invited to the meal?

I worked in a team last year and we were really close and always had a laugh together.

It wasn't a great job though so eventually we have all left now. It's been a year since we all met up as a group as one of them went travelling and so did I.

We finally settled on a date for our team night reunion. I was then told that two other people were invited. They worked in the same building but I barely knew them. Up until that point it was always just our team who were going.

Aibu to feel a little annoyed?

This thread has been sad for many reasons, including the multiple comments about 24 year olds being immature.

Arsenic · 22/05/2015 12:44

Award her a maturity Star if you feel the urge Chalet.

chaletdays · 22/05/2015 12:47

I think those comments are the most ironic part of this very shameful thread.

diddl · 22/05/2015 12:47

Forgot to say YANBU for being a little annoyed.

It is annoying when you are looking forward to something & then it isn't going to be quite what you thought.

But at least they aren't total strangers, so don't let it ruin the evening when it happens.

Arsenic · 22/05/2015 12:50

Sorry, but for some reason this po-faced wedgieness is tickling me.

It's an AIBU thread about a works dinner with overtones of bridezilla about it.

It's really not that serious. What's the belated stern-faced, wrist-slapping pile-on supposed to achieve?

chaletdays · 22/05/2015 12:50

I definitely don't think you're being unreasonable. It can be very disappointing when you're looking forward to a get together and someone decides to invite a few people who weren't part of the core group.
Fair enough if you meet regularly, but if it's just an annual reunion or somesuch it's not really on.

Fairenuff · 22/05/2015 12:51

I put it to you, Fairenuff that had, for example, yourself posted the thread, you would not have received these responses.

But what if I posted under a different name? That's all I'm saying. We cannot jump to conclusions about who a poster is/was/might be, all we can do is go on what they posted.

The only difference with regulars is that, having been around a lot on mn, they can spot a bullshitter pretty early on in a thread so do tend to be vocal about it.

(Not saying this thread is one of those, btw, just adding to the general mn observations that are now being discussed on this thread).

Those ^^ are for WoollyHugs! Shock

We rightly take note of -ism/-ist in postings and the reference to the OP being 24 was ageist and patronising; it was called on.

Agree with you that AIBU is a bit Vaudeville, it's the most free and easy bit of the board and I like it for that reason as well as the diversity of topics. If you're honest though, Arsenic, there is often a disparity of responses, depending on how something is posted and more importantly, who posts it.

AIBU is mostly amusing, often supportive but sometimes it's a bit unwelcoming. It's a bit like a tide going in and out, leaving different flotsam and jetsam on the sand with each passing wave... posters' views and subsequent atmosphere of the board changes with the tide...

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 22/05/2015 12:56

Arsenic... 'PO faced'? Shock

I'm the recipient of slaps, never the giver.

Arsenic · 22/05/2015 12:57

Sorry Lying

I'll stop playing with them.

If you're honest though, Arsenic, there is often a disparity of responses, depending on how something is posted and more importantly, who posts it.

Yes, probably. But what can you do? Apart from chill out and display good grace as an OP?

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 22/05/2015 12:58

Fairenuff... I think you should try it! Test the hypothesis. Grin

I've been here for several years, can't spot a bullshitter with a satnav and directional signing. Blush

Arsenic · 22/05/2015 12:59

Erm, yes, see your point. "lemon-sucking-faced"?? Wink

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 22/05/2015 13:01

I've never dared to use one, I don't think... Shock... You have some balls of steel there, Arsenic.

I think what you say is true, it's difficult though sometimes to show good grace when you feel affronted/got at. Sometimes I catch up with a thread that I posted on (when I've been rightly handed my arse) and I cringe... no good grace on display there at all and I would dearly love a 'do over' button on MN.

I'm all chilled today though... a rare day at home MNing working.

Fairenuff · 22/05/2015 13:03

I have Lying, I've had posters question whether I'm genuine and I've had posters get arsey with me. But I haven't got arsey back and it's been fine Smile

I barely look at usernames unless I want to reply to someone individually, I just go on what they say and respond accordingly.

Arsenic · 22/05/2015 13:03

Am I going to have to go on the run from the Woolyhuggers? Grin

Arsenic · 22/05/2015 13:04

Brew Hot water and lemon slice would be lovely. Thanks Smile

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 22/05/2015 13:08

But you have prior knowledge of the posters perhaps, Fairenuff and it makes you perhaps more tolerant of your erstwhile arsey fellow-posters who've not realised it's you...? You're a wise one anyway from what I've seen, and unflabbable. :)

Yes, Arsenic, you are now on Wanted posters for erroneous and unreasonable use of stars. Shock

There WILL be a price to pay... can you knit? Grin

I love those Woollyhuggers, so talented. I wish they sold 'stuff'. I would buy it and pretend that I made it. Blush

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 22/05/2015 13:10

Have you got that wretched 'cough' thing that's going around? Pholcodeine liquid is what I was recommended and it's very good even though it's vile.

I bet though you're just 'cleansing', aren't you? One of those very healthy, glowing people that I never will see in Greggs anytime soon? Gin

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 22/05/2015 13:11

Shock, that was 'grin', not 'gin'! Grin

I feel like I'm spamming the thread now with nonsense. Blush

Arsenic · 22/05/2015 13:11

No, it skipped a generation to DD, but I'm a very good winder....

Arsenic · 22/05/2015 13:12

(They DO sell stuff! ON FB)

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 22/05/2015 13:20

They DO? Shock

off to find it!

Arsenic · 22/05/2015 13:28

In periodic sales. Not constantly.
