I always wonder what an "account manager" is. It sounds so vague....

sandwich artist Hmm

WineIsTheAnswer · 20/05/2015 09:50

No idea what a 'Content manager' is, I was offered a job as one and turned it down as I didn't know what the hell it was.

I had a job as a 'salaried personal diary accountancy team leader' Should have known from the job title that I would be working for a clueless arse hole. I quit after a few months and the job title changed to an equally random selection of words for the new person. I was basically a PA and held his wallet. I couldn't keep up with his ludicrous spending that I was suppose to be limiting... apparently.Hmm

CookPassBabtrigde · 20/05/2015 09:54

My DP used to be a sandwich artist Grin

One of my friends worked in a bakery and got promoted to 'master baker' it always made me giggle because I'm childish

blueshoes · 20/05/2015 09:57

"Content manager" - was that in the context of an intranet or internet website? I think it means someone who decides what goes on the site and where and what is the structure. Never done that job, though.

blueshoes · 20/05/2015 10:00

Huftys, "account manager" could mean some kind of client-facing job and the role involves servicing specific clients.

"Accounts manager" with an "s" might mean a manager working in the Accounts department.

Just guessing, of course. Companies make up their own lingo and job titles.

mrsfuzzy · 20/05/2015 10:01

I was a Content Manager about 12yrs ago. It means you commission the content and decide who can advertise on the site.

balletnotlacrosse · 20/05/2015 10:45

The lady who runs our canteen and organises tea and coffee for meetings calls herself the 'Corporate Catering Manager'.

We also have a 'Communications Assistant' who mans the reception desk and refreshes the leaflet stand every morning.

Any anyone who wears a suit is called an Assistant Deputy Manager or a Deputy Executive or any other random arrangement of words to suit their ego.

imwithspud · 20/05/2015 10:54

I was going to say 'sandwich artist' but it seems a couple of others got there before me Grin

ThreeFrazzledFandangos · 20/05/2015 10:54

Account manager is a common job role in my industry. They look after the overall picture (recoverability, upcoming work, etc) the project managers look after the individual projects within an account.

The one I don't like is "account executive". They are basically the trainee on the account and should pick up any little task thrown at them no matter who asks them. It tends to attract newly graduated little shites who think the word "executive" makes them everyone's boss.

WestEast · 20/05/2015 10:57

I know of a Transformation Manager.
