to have all my hair chopped off?

I'm not feeling the aging windswept hippy look any more. I'm 40 and haven't had it cut for about 3 years.

It is currently below waist, thick and straight as a yard of pump water. I think I'm going a bit bald at the front. Would that be from pulling it into a bun/plait all the time? It's thin and fuzzy there.

Appointment is at 2pm.

Go for it. I did 2 years ago. Mid-back length to pixie. It took years off me and I've never looked back.

Your hair sounds lovely! wish mine would get that long. I would have it mid way up your back so it's not a shock and still long and feminine, but will have lots more volume and bounce Smile

I did this about 6 weeks ago. Am 36 and had mid-back length frizzy hair. I got a pixie cut and while it took me some time to adjust I've had nothing but effusive compliments from others.

Have you got DC, Op? I went all baldy round my hairline after both DC were born. Went for a chop and fringe - looks much better now. I'd love a pixie crop, but I'm a fatty, so I use my hair to even out my weight!

I've done it a few times, my hair grows very quickly and I don't particularly like it long.
It's shoulder length at the minute but I'm thinking about going back to a pixie cut. I absolutely love the freedom that comes with having short hair. Do it!

Past your waist is a little too long IMO. You don't need to go cropped, maybe just a more groomed style with layers or a side fringe...bra strap length maybe? Then you can always grow it back.

I have heard before of traction alopecia which comes from pulling your hair back too tight....

I used to have stupid length hair for a time, and I also just used to keep it plaited/in a bun the whole time because there was far too much of it for it to be anything other than a nuisance.

Shoulder length will be much pleasanter to manage, and more flattering.

OP - I think you should go for it. If you don't fancy the crop style, then shoulder length or bob might suit? Hairdresser should be able to advise you re style for your face.

I had my hair cut into a crop a few years ago. It was lovely, but I found it hard to find time to keep getting it cut, so at the moment it's shoulder length.

I am 36 and I also think after a certain age (not sure what age, but I feel I have reached it) then you don't want it much longer than shoulder length. But perhaps that's just for myself.

Gin that makes you look about 5 years younger. It looks lovely.

I've had short hair for years as I went grey, now white, early & I always think that unless you are willing to spend a lot of time maintaining a really smart style, you can look a bit witchy with long grey hair. And I swim a lot so short is easy.

I'd love a pixie cut but I haven't got the guts or the ears
I do intend to have mine cut shorter on Friday though, it's currently below my bra strap and I'll have it cut jaw length. I've done it before so I know what I'm getting. If I like it I might even have a pixie before the end of summer [brave]

Emma Willis does have a good haircut, but I think you need to be slim(ish) to carry it off. I've always liked Sharleen Spiteri's cuts - short, but with long layers and very femine.

It's only hair. It grows back.

I say if you are going to do it, do it in a big way :) Is your hairdresser good at using their own initiative, as well as listening to what you think you want/don't want ? Have a good chat first.

Not going pixie short. I have a bit at the back that grows upwards. Also i'm too lazy to have it trimmed every few weeks.

Really need it long enough to tie back for work. Or short enough (off collar) to not.
