Would you raise an eyebrow at 43 and 38 as ages of prospective parents?

Don't be PC!

Please be honest! To me it seems older than ideal.

It'd be dc3, if that matters?

Not in the least

aprilanne · 16/05/2015 10:43

my friend is a having a little surprise baby at 40 and she said the midwife said she is a geriatric mother .we had a good giggle .as long as the baby loved who cares

waxmytash · 16/05/2015 12:00

Hope not .I was 42 and DP was 40 when we had DC3.

Stinkersmum · 16/05/2015 12:02

DH 46 me 40, dc1 due in October. Completely ideal for us.

MrsTedCrilly · 16/05/2015 12:11

No! My dad was 40 and I benefited from his experience and maturity whereas my older brother got the energetic dad but didn't know what he was doing. There are positives to young and older parents Smile

It's not what I would personally do big no I wouldn't raise an eyebrow / judge / think it was wrong or anything. Not at all .

306235388 · 16/05/2015 12:16

But no

TwiceAsNiceAsIceAndaSlice · 16/05/2015 12:22

Not at all.

sunbathe · 16/05/2015 12:45

I had dc3 at 38. It didn't even cross my mind to think about how old I was.

Andrise · 16/05/2015 14:46

My exH is doing his best to get his 42 year old girlfriend pregnant and he is 54.

Not sure I'd use him as a life role model mind you!

FriendlyLadybird · 16/05/2015 14:52

No. But if you have the baby, what does what anyone else thinks matter anyway?

loveandsmiles · 16/05/2015 15:12

Absolutely not but then I am completely biased - pregnant with DC6 age 47(nearly 48Shock) and DH 56 years. The DC keep us young Smile.

Good luck with whatever you decide........

museumum · 16/05/2015 15:15

I had my first at 36 and that was really normal around here so anybody having three would be at least 38.
I think it's maybe not "ideal" in terms of fertility but if you manage to conceive then good for you!

MitzyLeFrouf · 16/05/2015 15:16

Wowzers loveandsmiles. Congrats!

loveandsmiles · 16/05/2015 15:22

Thank you mitzy - have had so many negative comments about our ages and having too many children - hardly told anyone about DC6 (6 months pregnant but small bump!).

It's no ones business what you do - as long as you are well and happy x

pointythings · 16/05/2015 15:52

I was almost 35 when I had DD2 so no raised eyebrows from me. DH was almost 43.

Ragwort · 16/05/2015 16:02

No - I had my child at 43 - I am more likely to raise my eyebrows at 'young' parents - which to me is under 25.

girliefriend · 16/05/2015 16:03

I think maybe a couple of decades ago maybe it would have been seen as at the older end of the scale but not now. Three of my close friends have all recently had their first babies over the age of 35, they are all planning on having at least one more child.

VivienScott · 16/05/2015 16:07

No, so long as you haven't got any health issues that might complicate matters then I migh be a bit 'Oo are you/the baby going to be ok?' but that's because I've had problems in the past so it's just what my brain worries about. (I appreciate I am not normal!)

leedy · 16/05/2015 16:08

Wouldn't find it odd in the slightest (was 37 and 40 having DC).

Vanillaradio · 16/05/2015 16:40

Um no, i am 38 and dh is 45, we have an 18 month old and hope to ttc dc2 next year, it wouldn't even cross my mind to raise an eyebrow!

Muskey · 16/05/2015 16:44

I was 39 and dh was 44 when we had dd.

Depends on how active a parent they are. Dm had Dsis at 40.and she was too old. She didn't have the energy after having 3 in her 20s.

My friend however had her DC1 and only at 45 and is more energetic than me at 37!

For me I think I'm done at 37 (think) and 38. For you, only you can know.

StillRainingInMay · 16/05/2015 16:50

Nope - we've got loads around here!
