Would you raise an eyebrow at 43 and 38 as ages of prospective parents?

Don't be PC!

Please be honest! To me it seems older than ideal.

It'd be dc3, if that matters?

Yes mum would be 38.

I'm asking on behalf of myself.

I'm surrounded by very young mums. I had first at 33, second at 38 and would now love dc3 but most mums to be I know are much younger. I feel old when compared to them! I don't feel old myself though!

I'd think it was less than ideal to start trying, just because the odds aren't so great of succeding at that age. But if you're already pregnant then I'd think nothing of it. Late 30s seems to be about the average round where I live.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 15/05/2015 22:20

Well I wouldn't think so. I'm 39 and my DP is 55 and we're trying for a baby,

Rebecca2014 · 15/05/2015 22:22

No.

Donatello68 · 15/05/2015 22:23

No, not at all - go for it!!

Alisvolatpropiis · 15/05/2015 22:23

I wouldn't think it particularly out of the ordinary for a first child, certainly not for a second/third.

AtSea1979 · 15/05/2015 22:24

No

LaurieFairyCake · 15/05/2015 22:24

No, as long as the woman wasn't 43.

As that would be really hard Wink

londonrach · 15/05/2015 22:25

No!

Miltonmaid · 15/05/2015 22:26

No, perfectly normal

Purple go for it! I will say that third children are quite often bonkers #askmehowIknow

WaitingForMe · 15/05/2015 22:31

No. I spent today with a friend who had her youngest when she was 44 and her DH was in his 50s. Another friend had her first at 38.

Maybe it depends on friendship groups. Few of my friends had kids before their 30th Birthdays.

Monica101 · 15/05/2015 22:31

No I honestly wouldn't even notice age until the mother was 44 or over.

Even then I wouldn't think negatively about it, just notice they were an older parent.

drinkscabinet · 15/05/2015 22:32

I was 38 when DC2 was born and 41 when DC3 was born. No problems conceiving or during pregnancy. Go for it!

Momagain1 · 15/05/2015 22:33

We were 42 (me) and 40 for our last. My parents were 43 and 38 for their last. His parents were 42 and 44 for their first.

Seems positively normal to me.

Buxtonstill · 15/05/2015 22:34

It doesn't matter if people raise their eyebrows. If you are healthy, and it is what you and your partner want then it is nobody else's business.
Good luck to you if that's what you want.

unlucky83 · 15/05/2015 22:36

I had DD2 when I was almost 40 ...and gave up on the idea of DC3 when I was 46 (not trying, not not trying ) but was quite sad it hadn't happened ... Now pushing 48 and no regrets - actually couldn't bear the thought of going through the new born stage again...Smile -just feel too old!

HelenF350 · 15/05/2015 22:36

My dp and I are 43 and 35, dc1 due next month. I don't think that's unusual nowadays.

Eva50 · 15/05/2015 22:38

I was 42 and dh 58 when ds 3 was born. There are at least two children in his class with mothers older than me and two of my work colleagues are older than me and have children the same age. I doubt anyone will be bothered.

Taja123 · 15/05/2015 22:38

Nope just had dd 3 months ago aged 44 other dc, son nearly 21, 20 yr gap loving it all again :)

feetheart · 15/05/2015 22:39

I was 40 when DD was born and 43 with DS (DH was 36 and 39) so I wouldn't raise any eyebrows at all.
I'm now 52 with a 12 and 9yr old but still feel about 30 in my head :o

ILovedYouYesterday · 15/05/2015 22:39

Totally normal these days, especially with mum being the one under 40 although I wouldn't bat an eyelid if it was the other way round either.

I had mine at 24, 27 and youngest when I was 29 and now (at 45) often feel quite young compared to the other mums at parents evenings and uni open days!

Georgina1975 · 15/05/2015 22:44

No. My DP was 56 when our DC came along.

I guess it depends on where you live too. Mums and dads tend to be younger around me, and I am the oldest mum at 39 in a reception group of around 40 children. We do stand out as a couple, but I think the novelty (or horror) soon wore off.

BeCool · 15/05/2015 22:45

Had mine at 40 and 43 so no judging here. . Go for it!
