Would you raise an eyebrow at 43 and 38 as ages of prospective parents?

Don't be PC!

Please be honest! To me it seems older than ideal.

It'd be dc3, if that matters?

I had a baby (my first) last year when I was 38. That was a bit older than average in my circle but not the oldest. No one batted an eyelid.

SirChenjin · 15/05/2015 22:48

Nope, not at all - DC3 appeared when I was almost 38 and DH was 44.

neolara · 15/05/2015 22:50

No. It's pretty normal around here.

Gileswithachainsaw · 15/05/2015 22:51

of course not.Smile

littlejohnnydory · 15/05/2015 22:51

Not even a small eyebrow raise, I wouldn't think anything of it.

DougalTheCheshireCat · 15/05/2015 22:51

God no. But then I live in central London and am surrounded by 40+ women telling the world how they conceived naturally. People: I'm happy for you, and get that you are surprised / delighted but really you can spare the details of how many times you had sex and bam first go chat Grin

InAndOfMyself · 15/05/2015 22:54

I don't see a problem with it.

My ex and his new partner are set to be 49 for their first together so your example is hardly the oldest end of the spectrum.

OffTheBackOfALaurie · 15/05/2015 22:59

Doesn't even seem slightly unusual to me.
Even if the ages were reversed.

And who cares what anyone else does with their eyebrows.

What the fuck is wrong with people if they raise their eyebrows at a woman of childbearing age choosing to bear a child!

applesareredandgreen · 15/05/2015 23:01

Not at all

Ludways · 15/05/2015 23:01

I had dc2 at 38, no one batted an eye lid and I was mostly asked if I'd have any more. I'm 48 now and perfectly comfortable at the school gates, not out of place at all.

CMP69 · 15/05/2015 23:01

No I was 39 when ds was born Smile

antimatter · 15/05/2015 23:01

No, none of my business.

Spero · 15/05/2015 23:05

Why should this raise an eyebrow in any way?

If you said 15 and 17 or 48 and 70 I would think it not ideal. But this? What's the problem?

ouryve · 15/05/2015 23:06

no.

OscarWinningActress · 15/05/2015 23:12

Lone voice of dissent. I'm 38 and I had my first at 25 and my third (and final) at 29. My life is just getting going now that they're all in school and I have my days back again...a baby now would be an absolute NIGHTMARE. The idea is utterly repugnant to me Envy

NurseRoscoe · 15/05/2015 23:12

The risk of complications IS higher but I wouldn't raise an eyebrow. I don't see it as being my business and would see that as being the business of the parents and the midwife/doctor to consider and discuss Smile

ChilliAndMint · 15/05/2015 23:15

Not a big deal. You have already had two children. Nowadays having children is a lifestyle choice, many women had children in their forties and even fifties before birth control was readily available.
I know lots of women who have naturally conceived well past forty.

Blueboys · 15/05/2015 23:18

No way! My DH is 48 and we have a 3 year old and 18 month old. He is very fit and healthy more like a 30 year old so that may help.

BitOutOfPractice · 15/05/2015 23:33

It wouldn't even ripple my consciousness

Sheitgeist · 16/05/2015 01:16

Certainly not, completely normal and unremarkable.
DH and I were 46 and 41 at the birth of DC5. I'm probably older than all of the other reception class mums, but it has never occurred to me to be bothered about it; far less to bother what anyone else thought.

lemonpoppyseed · 16/05/2015 01:47

No. It does depend where you live, though. DH (43) and I (39) are of perfectly average age for parenting in our area. We have two DCs under four. You rarely see anyone younger than 30 with a child here.

NickiFury · 16/05/2015 01:51

No.

pollypocket123 · 16/05/2015 02:00

Not at all!

however · 16/05/2015 02:23

I thought there was a typo in your heading and you meant grandparents.

lowra · 16/05/2015 04:44

Nope, well I hope not. I'm 35 weeks pregnant with DC2, and 38. I'm a bit more knackered than I was with my 1st pregnancy, but loads of my friends of the same age are only just thinking about having their 1st. Good luck!
