Without even trying I usually eat 10+ portions a day, I just can't think how anyone doesn't have at least 5 a day.

Today ive had
oats with kiwi and banana
Apple to snack
Chicken pasta with tomatoes, courgette, onion garlic peppers mushrooms (3 portions at least)
Greek salad tomatoes, cucumber, avocado Basil red onion

And now currently snacking on carrots and humous

Dorothy Parker says it best:
“If I don't drive around the park,
I'm pretty sure to make my mark.
If I'm in bed each night by ten,
I may get back my looks again,
If I abstain from fun and such,
I'll probably amount to much,
But I shall stay the way I am,
Because I do not give a damn…”

lilifer · 15/05/2015 23:55

Bet Dorothy didn't worry about her five a day!

SwirlyThingAlert · 15/05/2015 23:57

Does my wine I'm currently sipping count? It's got grapes in it, right?!

ChilliAndMint · 16/05/2015 00:03

I used to eat like that but I don't have e structured timetable now. I eat rather badly. I love my fruit and veg.
I prefer indigenous? fruit and veg...in season stuff. I'm a cracking cook.
Just never seems the time for us all to eat a proper meal together.

StupidBloodyKindle · 16/05/2015 00:09

Ah feck.

I had a glass of water.
A swig of lime pop.
A slice of cheese.
Another swig of lime pop.
Half a slice of second hand toast.
A manky banana from dd's rucksack.
A cheese and tomato sandwich.
The last of the lime pop.
A hot dog.
Some leftover pancake with lemon juice.

1 banana, 2 cherry tomatoes, a squirt of jif lemon.
Not looking good is it?

Cliffdiver · 16/05/2015 06:32

At sea your basically eating a diet of wheat, fair enough but is that through choice or budget?

AIBU to wonder how one gets to adulthood without a basic grasp of English grammar?

Have another Biscuit op.

Mrsstarlord · 16/05/2015 07:43

Yesterday I had an apple, a banana, a ham sandwich and some crisps. If I'm not hungry I don't eat, so forcing fruit or veg down when I'm not hungry just for the sake of it is silly. So would eating only fruit and veg instead of anything else just to achieve a random number!

SweetAndFullOfGrace · 16/05/2015 08:26

Yes Swirly, wine is definitely one of your five a day! Or several, depending on volume Grin

Pancakeflipper · 16/05/2015 08:31

I made Rocky road yesterday and chucked in raisins and cranberries so that counts as 2 of my 5 a day doesn't it?

ChwatFeechers · 16/05/2015 08:33

I only eat fruit and vegetables, so nervous am I to get the daily recommended amount.

Groovee · 16/05/2015 08:39

My niece only eats bananas. Her diet is limited and she eats crap constantly.

My mum said she thought I was a fussy child but now my niece lives with her, she's pulling her hair out.

ShadowsInTheDarkness · 16/05/2015 09:05

Hahaha oh gawd I don't think me or the DC ever manage the full five unless the 2 slices of cucumber in a sand which type greeneries count as whole portions?

Yesterday was fairly typical food wise.

Breakfast - 2 cups of tea with 3 sugars each
Lunch - chicken sandwich, cursory leaf of lettuce was in it, so doesn't count, yoghurt and more tea
Dinner - shepherds pie with some brocolli on the side. There were onions, mushrooms and carrots in the mine mixture but not sure it's enough to count as more than 1 portion.
Pud was peaches and angel delight! So that's another 1.

If we didn't have fruit as pudding, which we sometimes don't it'd be less. Never have fruit juice as it's expensive compared to water/squash. I have the horrors at the though to trying to get 5 portions down DS every day, his nursery record comes home every day with
"Lunch, two portions eaten, left veg"
"Snack, one portion, left veg"

ShadowsInTheDarkness · 16/05/2015 09:06

Oh Fuck off superior autocorrect pretending you don't know what a sandwich is!

Mrsjayy · 16/05/2015 09:14

Id poop myself inside out if i ate all that Hmm

SomewhereIBelong · 16/05/2015 09:20

you had oats with a whole banana and 2 kiwi fruit (has to be 2 to be one of your 5 a day for an adult) for breakfast?? that's a lot of sugary fruit...

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 16/05/2015 12:18

I don't eat much fruit. I know I should, and we have it in the house, but I just don't. Especially because we mostly keep it in the fridge and I can't bear cold fruit.

But I do have at least 3 portions of veg every day. So that's not too bad, although obviously not ideal.

When I'm low carbing, I usually end up having MORE veg, because I'll have courgettes and mushrooms in my lunchtime omelette, or a salad; plus the usual 3 portions of veg in the evening.

I wonder why the OP hasn't been back...

ememem84 · 16/05/2015 12:51

Yesterday I had:

Cereal and milk with added chia seeds (disgusting things. But they're expensive so don't want to waste...)(cereal had dried strawbs in it that counts right???)

Apple

3 digestives

Sandwich - piripiri chicken and mayo.

Magnum

Prawn and potato Caribbean curry. With broccoli.

Wine.

So far today:

Crumpet
Blt
A million cups of tea.

CocoaBeans · 16/05/2015 15:03

Lots of reasons - money, low self esteem, depression, all kinds of things can stop people eating their 5 a day.

batfish · 16/05/2015 15:21

I have good and bad days - more bad than good at the mo (let's blame it on the baby I'm growing being addicted to cheese - oh no that's just me).

Today I've had 1.5 cheese toasties and an apple flavour chupa chup. I am actually planning to roast some veg for dinner though, yay me! Followed by maltesers Grin

maroonedwithfour · 16/05/2015 15:53

Im really trying to eat my five a day as I'm having sone health isuues and always knackered.

Today I'v managed a home made smoothie with mixed frozen berries and spinach. Will have veg with dinner and a banana.

Ragwort · 16/05/2015 15:59

Lots of reasons - money, low self esteem, depression, all kinds of things can stop people eating their 5 a day.

Or perhaps you just don't like fruit and veg - I can afford to buy it, but don't particularly enjoy it - nothing to do with money, low self esteem or depression. I usually have a couple of portions a day but I am not going to stress myself counting it all up every day.

Breakfast is usually toast, croissant or perhaps yogurt (maybe with a bit of fruit), lunch is a sandwich and evening meal something like pasta/roast chicken/sausages - with perhaps a small salad or just one portion of veg. Don't eat puddings, perhaps a few chocolates or piece of homemade cake Grin.

sideshowbob2 · 16/05/2015 16:00

because medically i can't eat high fibre foods as i have colitis, so cannot tolerate any fibre what so ever, need to eat plenty of pasta and rice to keep everything firm unfortunately!!

fatlazymummy · 16/05/2015 16:12

I generally do eat my 5 a day (or even 6 or 7) ,but sometimes I just don't fancy it. My favourite food is actually bread, blue cheese and caramalised onion chutney, so sometimes I have that for lunch and dinner. Veggies don't really fit in with that and a salad would spoil it. Or I might just fancy toast and marmite, or cheese on toast, again veggies would spoil it.
I think the thing with the traditional british diet is that vegetables tend to be served on the side, rather than incorporated into the meal, so eating vegetables doesn't always come naturally to us. It's something we have to think about ,and sometimes we can't be arsed.

SomewhereIBelong · 16/05/2015 16:31

I have a bad cold - does lemsip count... 'cos apart from that I have had porridge and chicken soup for 3 boring days.

BigfatNessy · 16/05/2015 16:48

I don't see the appeal of vergetables. They give me the trots.
