The DC saw EH at the weekend. This morning I was making cheese on toast when DD pipes up with "Dad says you buy cheap cheese".

Out of all the comments he could have made about me AIBU to find this very funny?

MrsStarLord we buy cheap burger cheese too. I only have it in burgers, but DH (a chef) likes it in a toasted sandwich and makes a big fuss about the fact I insist on "real" cheese in a toasted sandwich!

ClaimedByMe · 12/05/2015 08:15

It's plastic cheese in this house too for burgers although it has been known that do put it on toast or sandwiches.

violetwellies · 12/05/2015 22:59

Thanks to this thread I have wasted a whole evening of my life Googling Portugese cheese.

Lweji · 12/05/2015 23:58

Never wasted, Violet. :)

momb · 13/05/2015 15:20

I really dislike the plastic cheese slices they put on burgers, but I still buy the value ones which are so cheap they can't even be called cheese, legally. I give you Value Singles:

Your ex wouldn't spit on me if I was on fire would he OP? Ah well, I'll live with the disappointment, as will you I expect.

If his cheese tastes are being influenced by his Swedish girlfriend then 'cheap cheese' is probably a compliment. Swedish cheese is predominantly bland, tasteless and made of rubber.

hedgehogsdontbite · 13/05/2015 15:34

Unless it's ädelost which reeks of feet and tastes like vomit.

My father in law used to supervise the cheese strings line in a cheese factory.

Lweji · 13/05/2015 19:31

PreemptiveSalvageEngineer

Are you on glue?

Or too much stinky cheese?

Also not sure you have read any mention of me and Krav Maga. I loves a good smack down.

PreemptiveSalvageEngineer · 14/05/2015 08:34

Anytime, bay-beeee.

We could be a side-attraction to that cheese-rolling event. Mac&cheese wrestling or summat...

plentychilled · 14/05/2015 10:43

I still think one of my defining cheese moments was hearing someone ask Stevie Gerrard on (I think) Live & Kicking what is favourite sort of cheese was "eeeerm Melted Cheese" was his response! It still comes up whenever melted cheese is mentioned.

I quit eating dairy 6 days a week to help lose weight - I had a real cheese craving early on and wound up eating a whole block of Comte cheese with a potato peeler. This was after a cheeseburger and 2 large pizzas with a side of jalapeno poppers...

This thread inspired me to pick up some mature manchego when I was in LIDL yesterday. I enjoyed it hugely with Greek tapas (LIDL special offer ATM) pasta supper and wine (rose because it is spring) last night, and polished the rest off for breakfast this morning. I do like a nice piece of cheese. Posh and yet cheap (at least reasonable) at the same time, what's not to like?!

I spent far too long gazing at cheese in the Co-Op today.

It brought back memories. Some good, some bad. I bought Stilton and am enjoying it with some crackers, tomatoes and avocado.

It tastes even better because EH is not here. Happy cheesy days :)
