The DC saw EH at the weekend. This morning I was making cheese on toast when DD pipes up with "Dad says you buy cheap cheese".

Out of all the comments he could have made about me AIBU to find this very funny?

Kurri the plasticness of them doesn't allow them to melt properly I love it. You could stick them on a burger and put it under the grill for half an hour and you may just get a little bubble

Rosieliveson · 11/05/2015 18:50

Only got half way through this thread before I needed to get a massive chunk of cheese to chomp on whilst I read the rest! It's cathedral city Grin

Alchemist · 11/05/2015 18:58

Sisters Thank you, value brands all the way :).

I have decided my newest insult is "Cheap Cheese". I will use it on any person or situation needs it. I might sniff too.

I only buy 'cheap' cheese. I was most impressed when I discovered that Poundland do cheese for £1 (obvs).

I actually find 'cheap cheese' to still be an expense and one that I can only buy once every 3 or 4 weeks.

HarryLimeFoxtrot · 11/05/2015 19:06

I love cheese. DH doesn't buy me flowers or chocolate, but he does sometimes bring home cheese from the Waitrose cheese counter to cheer me up.

Moln · 11/05/2015 19:11

Orange cheddar is red cheddar

Yellow cheddar is white cheddar

You heathens!!!!

Btw OP, why did he cry eating feta? Did he realise it was actually made from cow''s milk and not sheep's? Or was it the taste because he in truth prefers cheap bland cheese

TisILeclerc · 11/05/2015 19:14

Am I the only one Hmm at cheese for £10/kg from John Lewis being cheaper than tesco?

SouthernComforts · 11/05/2015 19:16

Kurri - once the plastic cheese slice starts to melt, spread a bit of butter over it and put it back under the grill. You get nice brown bubbly cheese then instead of it all going into one black bubble.

Not that I'd ever eat cheap cheese..

JugglingFromHereToThere · 11/05/2015 19:18

Great thread - surprised someone said they didn't find it funny - I think it's hilarious. But tbf things have matured since that post Grin cheesy smile

Southwestwhippet · 11/05/2015 19:22

This reminds me of my little sister who went in a play date at the age if about 7 and when asked what cheese she liked innocently replied "special offer cheese". ?????? was all we ever had in the house I think.

WhatABaklava · 11/05/2015 19:30

Did he mean "sheep cheese"? And actually he thinks you are a real food snob?

Do you buy sheep cheese, OP?

CheesyDibbles · 11/05/2015 19:33

I smother my cheese on toast in Worcester Sauce or ketchup so I really wouldn't be able to tell the difference between cheap or posh!

Send him a large block of value cheese by second class post. When the weather is nice and warm.

GlitzAndGigglesx · 11/05/2015 19:33

Tis you're not alone. All I could think was Asda do 2 500g packs for £5. It's nice stuff too! My nearest John Lewis is about a £6 journey away so it's not worth it

Lweji · 11/05/2015 19:42

sheep cheese

Love it.

This type.

I'd send him some sheep cheese in jest to leave him confused.

"She buys cheap cheese".
Moln · 11/05/2015 19:53

Actually I think WhatABaklava is on to something there. It'd explain the crying during feta eating.

violetwellies · 11/05/2015 19:56

Lweji I love all sheep's cheese, what is that one and where do I get it?

Lweji · 11/05/2015 20:07

It's a Portuguese cheese, and you could probably get it from Portuguese grocery shops in the UK. There are some in London and I'm sure elsewhere.

The best (and most expensive) are from Serra da Estrela (Star mountain range).

MerynFuckingTrant · 11/05/2015 20:34

I love this thread!
Special offer cheese is the only cheese I buy.
I bought Davidstow recently on offer, I've always considered that to be posh cheese, it has a posher taste than Cathedral city.
Quite like a bit of Seriously Strong when it's on deal too.
Not that keen on the value stuff as it's too mild but I'd still have it on toast topped with gherkins and/or pickle.

RusticBlush · 11/05/2015 20:44

Yes, fathers day is coming up - do him a cheeseboard up of the cheapest value cheese you can find Grin

ScrambledSmegs · 11/05/2015 21:04

Yup, was lovely. Can't remember precisely what I got, but none of them were cheddar because we'd been given a 1kg Godminster for Christmas and were still troughing through it a few months later. Suspect one was Comté though. Love Comté.

What cheese is that, Lweji? Azeitao? Looks gorgeous.

TheHumblePotato · 11/05/2015 21:20

That's the best put down ever! As Rustic says, do him a nice cheap (and cheerful) cheeseboard for fathers day! It's the least you could do you cheapo!

Lweji · 11/05/2015 21:23

Azeitão is the same type, soft sheep cheese, Scrambled.

HelenF350 · 11/05/2015 21:25

Lidl extra mature 'cheap cheese' is bloody brilliant! Grin

timelyreminder · 11/05/2015 21:28

To "She buys cheap cheese" I just want to add "on the seashore".
