AIBU to think that charging a child rent whilst they're still at home and in the last year of A-levels is wrong?

Happy to be corrected but I personally feel this is a bit off. Thanks.

Must you be so literal? I was just amazed by the number of graduates that had no idea how the tax system works AT ALL at the age of 21/22. There were 4 of us dealing with them and our phones would ring off the hook in the first week of October with them wondering how it could possibly be right that they would pay tax. Just an observation that all study and no work does not make for particularly well-rounded individuals.

Why were you amazed? Why should they know anything about the tax system if they had never paid tax? It's not as if knowing about it effects the amount you pay if you are a teacher.

Just shows an amazing lack of knowledge for how the society they live in works.

I've always been suspicious of those that go from school to uni and then straight into teaching for that very reason. Even worse if they never do any work (volunteer or paid) outside studying. And yes, I've encountered plenty of those too.

Other examples: I've never eaten a steak but I know how to cook one. I've never claimed benefits but I know how they work. I've never driven a car into a lake but I know what to do if somehow it happens!

Cooking steak or taxes are not rocket science and you can quickly look it up learn about them in a few minutes when /if you need to. Maybe you like to know about things whether or not you need them but others learn about things on a need to know basis particularly when they are very young adults. It has nothing to do with whether or not they are teachers or have a degree.Hmm

Let's just agree to disagree, shall we?
