I like it... It would look mint on a bedroom door Grin

gotothegymtomorrow · 03/05/2015 15:49

Yeh go for it its your house. Doesn't matter what anyone else thinks...

Stratter5 · 03/05/2015 15:49

How big is it? I might put that in the top floor landing can you tell I'm dying for grandchildren

Link please spuddy

If you like it then go ahead. I vastly prefer artwork that reflects someone's personality.

Like if you ask someone about the piece and they say 'I've always loved orange bicycles' or 'It's a print of X painting by one of my favourite artists' or even 'I saw this and thought it was lovely' is a better answer (imo) than 'I don't really get it myself but doesn't the blue in it go well with the new rug?'

loopinthep · 03/05/2015 16:09

spudholes: ...but can anyone recommend any art that has a similar enchanting/majestic feel to it? The artwork on the back of a box of Rice Krispies? A quick trip to the cereal aisle and you'd be in your own Tate gallery.

Fingeronthebutton · 03/05/2015 16:11

I can't believe there are so many people with bad taste. Companies who produce this rubbish should be shot at dawn.

KnitFastDieWarm · 03/05/2015 16:17

To paraphrase Miranda - I personallwouldn't' pick that, but it makes you happy. do you like it? Yes. Do you care that others may not like it? No. Well, put it up then Grin

BigRedBall · 03/05/2015 16:21

Why do these kinds of threads bring out the arseholes?

Wtf is wrong with instant Nescafé?

StUmbrageinSkelt · 03/05/2015 16:23

Maxfield Parrish might be worth a look?

KnitFastDieWarm · 03/05/2015 16:27

If you like this kind of fairytale imagery, how about some Pre-Raphaelite prints? Try JW waterhouse or Laurence alma-tadema.
(art historian here - I love romantic, lush paintings like these)

KnitFastDieWarm · 03/05/2015 16:29

(Before another art historian jumps on me, yes I know alma-tadema is not technically Pre-Raphaelite Grin)

loopinthep · 03/05/2015 16:31

Wtf is wrong with instant Nescafé? Apart from tasting like shit, not a lot I suppose.

Fingeronthebutton · 03/05/2015 16:32

BigRedBall. I'm assuming that post was directed at me? But bad taste is bad taste. There's no other way of putting it. In years to come, Spudholes will look back and be horrified that he/she ever contemplated this crime against good taste.
I can't tell you WTF is wrong with Nescafé as I've never had it.

Mrsstarlord · 03/05/2015 16:36

If you like it then go for it, everyone is different (although in the interests of complete transparency, having worked in community mental health services I used to see a lot of this sort of imagery on people's walls so will always associate it with that). But if you like it, knickers to anyone else. We have loads of artwork on our walls that other people would probably hate!

loopinthep · 03/05/2015 16:36

how about some Pre-Raphaelite prints? I think the OP is more inclined towards Pre-Posterous?

Loop Hmm I look forward to your posts they are always so pleasant and charming. Confused

IPityThePontipines · 03/05/2015 16:43

It's neither big nor clever to be gratuitously unpleasant on an internet forum.

Mrsstarlord · 03/05/2015 16:45

Maybe because many people with MH problems are very creative? Not my cup of tea but I have very little imagination Grin

CombineBananaFister · 03/05/2015 16:45

I agree with ADELE would much prefer to see something that I think is truly awful but is based on someone's personality than something put up to please the masses but with no meaning.

I like that I can look at something and think wtf? who would buy that? then see someone trotting off to the till with it Grin

What is bad taste anyway? anything that goes against the current percieved trend? it's subjective. Look at what happened with advacado bathroom suites.

Embrace the ugly and embrace the differences -from someones giant Asda garden gnome to someones Farrow and Ball hallway in notes of mist/slate/grey. Put the damn picture up and please yourself spud

Fingeronthebutton · 03/05/2015 16:47

Spudholes. If Fairies are your 'thing' have a look at: The Fairy Fellers Master Stroke by Richard Dadd.

tethersend · 03/05/2015 16:50

Bizarrely, the painting of Quincy is on my profile photos Grin

A friend of mine painted it.

KnitFastDieWarm · 03/05/2015 16:50

Loop there's no need to be nasty Hmm

Getting snotty about art is very non-U anyway. Anyone who knows anything about art knows that saying 'it's rubbish' marks you out as someone who is trying and failing to sound ever so knowledgeable and superior. Art is very personal thing, it's not about being 'good/bad/tasteful/tasteless' (otherwise how does Jeff koons win any fans?) If the op likes it, she likes it. I'd rather people had a genuine response to art they liked than tried to sound clever and tasteful about it.
(steps off art historian high horse)

loopinthep · 03/05/2015 16:51

...and its certainly very dull to come on a thread, add no value or opinion, and spout about those that do. The OP clearly has a sense of humour, and we're discussing Pre-Raphaelite art......maybe you should tootle off and discuss naming the Royal baby? xx.

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 03/05/2015 16:53

It isn't my taste but it isn't my home, so do what you want.
