About to move into my first apartment. AIBU to put this above the fireplace, or will people think i'm unhinged?

I love it!
I'd have it in a heartbeat (but DH and my 3 DS's) would probably veto it straight away. Can't say if DD would like it as she's only a baby.

I love all things pink, princess and fairytale though.

Get it on your wall and enjoy decorating your flat your own individual way while you still can. Grin

CuttingOutTheCrap · 03/05/2015 12:53

Hang whatever you like on your walls! I painted the living room in my first house bright yellow. I'm sure plenty of people thought it was hideous but i loved it and that's part of the joy of having your own place. Why have cream walls or pictures that aren't your taste just to please other people? :)

Jacana · 03/05/2015 13:03

Absolutely agree, it's your place, your first place? Go for it! Exciting time, having your first place Smile

Given that you've chosen it, tho, I'd suggest find a place which might help emphasise the qualities (magical? Mysterious?) which attracts you to it. You can do this with a spotlight, downlight,, etc.,right above the fireplace might not be the very best position without extra lighting help?

tethersend · 03/05/2015 13:11

I've got an oil painting of Quincy on my living room wall.

YaTalkinToMe · 03/05/2015 13:15

Do it, why worry about what other people think. Live in a house you love.

daisychain01 · 03/05/2015 13:41

sunbathe here's another fan of Escher.

I could stare at any of his work for hours! I'd never get any work done.

Icimoi · 03/05/2015 13:46

I think both options are hideous, but it's your flat. Are you sure you'll still like it in two years' time?

The first one would be better without the rainbow in it. I think it's the rainbow that makes it a little bit twee. That said, it is YOUR house. Put up what you like. You don't have to please anyone else, nor should you.

The second one is lovely, though. I would put it up. In fact, I might get one :) It looks magical.

loopinthep · 03/05/2015 13:53

Let your guests enjoy your fine art collection whilst they sip your finest instant Nescafe. They'll think you're utterly tasteless carefree.

Jacana · 03/05/2015 13:58

Uncalled for comment loop Angry

rambunctious · 03/05/2015 14:01

Your home is where you should feel 'at home!' Decorate it exactly as you want to - it doesn't matter one jot what anyone else thinks.

I personally applaud your desire to be unconventional.

kinkyfuckery · 03/05/2015 14:06

Your choice, but it wouldn't be my choice of print. Is it Thomas Kinkade you're particularly a fan of, or Cinderella, or just general Disney/fantasy?

spudholes · 03/05/2015 14:58

Thanks for the replies. I'm undecided now but can anyone recommend any art that has a similar enchanting/majestic feel to it?

KoalaDownUnder · 03/05/2015 15:14

Noooo, just get the first one! The one you really want!

Look, it's nothing I'd have in my own place, but if I went to a friend's house and saw it, I'd be quite thrilled. It's fun to look at, and not something you'd see everywhere.

SoldierBear · 03/05/2015 15:15

if it makes you happy, then go for and sit back and enjoy it.
Don't worry about what other people say.
It's absolutely fine to like Thomas Kincade/Cinderella' castle/Disney.
Anybody who would judge you on the things you hang on your wall is an idiot (unless something offensive, like a Nazi poster)

fulltothebrim · 03/05/2015 15:22

spud, stand up and throw you shoulders back!!

It's totally fine to have the tastes you do. If that image works for you then just do it- it doesn't matter what we think- it's part of being a grown up.

I have stuff in my house that I am sure some people would hate- but so what. I like it and it is me that is living with it. If you like that print then go for it.
We are just a bunch of random strangers- it doesn't really matter what we think.

Loop's comment is uncalled for- it simply shows how insecure she is, living her life to impress others.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 03/05/2015 15:23

I looked at it , thought Hmm and was going to suggest "if you like that sort of thing, try Thomas Kinkaid" ....................................then I saw it IS a TK.

I have a very small TK print of a winter/festive scene (Yes, a QVC speciality Blush ) and I love it , it;s about 8"x4" though.

Now, I want TK to paint me a portrait of Quincey (writes beggy letter to QVC Towers)

CoffeeBeanie · 03/05/2015 15:27

Exactly, you put up what you like! Don't ask what other people would put up, they are not you.

In my first flat I put artwork on the walls. Abstract, big canvasses, painted by me. No, I'm no artist, but I had no money and didn't care what anyone thought Grin

gamerchick · 03/05/2015 15:31

Do it if it makes you feel happy looking at it. My house is murals on doors and walls of different pictures and I have a big canvas of my most feared zombie on my bedroom wall and I'm 40.

Life's too short to be like everyone else.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 03/05/2015 15:36

my most feared zombie Shock

(Is that better or worse than Quincey , I wonder)

IPityThePontipines · 03/05/2015 15:40

Do it and pay no mind to the taste police egging each other on here. There is a section on MN that has a very 1950's idea of adulthood.

If when you see it, it makes you happy, then have it.

Tethers - how did you come into possesion of an oil painting of Quincy?

gamerchick · 03/05/2015 15:43

I have to see a picture of Quincey to compare Grin

fulltothebrim · 03/05/2015 15:44

I have this in my study- I am sure others may hate it.

AIBU to put this above my fireplace?
fulltothebrim · 03/05/2015 15:47

It's a picture from Hubble of the birth of stars- The Eagle nebula.
