The joy of this kind of decision is that it is your house, you are the one who will look at it every day. If it makes you smile, if you think you will walk into the room every day, look at that picture and feel happy, who gives a shit what anyone else thinks?! I have a painting of a place close to where I grew up, but in a slightly cubist sort of style. I own it because my dad brought it for himself, but realised he didn't like it as he got annoyed by the artist taking liberties and taking a beautiful place and painting his own interpretation of it, rather than just painting the beautiful place, he found himself getting more and more pissed off each time he looked at it. I on the other hand absolutely love it and it makes me smile to look at it. So that's why it is above my fireplace and above my dad's fireplace is a large abstract Fijian design that I don't dislike but certainly wouldn't put up in my house.

Um, they're a bit childish.

TheoriginalLEM · 03/05/2015 11:14

If the rest of your decor is gothicy fairytaley then go for it, otherwise it is going to look wrong. I like it. Do it.

RunRunAsFastishAsYouCan · 03/05/2015 11:15

I am curious, that is all.

Cadenza1818 · 03/05/2015 11:17

My step mum loves kincade stuff therefore tend to associate it with ppl in their 70s. But.go.for it, it's your house

TheoriginalLEM · 03/05/2015 11:17

I can't see what is wrong with it, it doesn't really suggest disney to me, i would imagine a house with dragons in it :-) and the sort of person i would be friends with. My DP and I do a lot of house decorating, we only ever have to buy one colour of paint - white - yawn

TrollshaveLittleWillies · 03/05/2015 11:19

It's funny how it's more acceptable to have Lord Of The Rings / Dungeons and Dragons type fantasy stuff but not more whimsical princess'y stuff.

I know a few at least one grown adult men with lOTR figurines and similar stuff on display.

lastnightiwenttomanderley · 03/05/2015 11:19

Regardless of my opinion, on s practical level its a challenging colour palette to work with in terms of the wider room.

It's not for me but if.it's what you want then go for it!

spudholes · 03/05/2015 11:20

The rest of the flat will be decorated 'normally' Grin And I'm 25.

put it up, fuck it. Life Is too short x and congrats on your new place!

TheoriginalLEM · 03/05/2015 11:24

Its ok, i put frogs up in our bathroom - they are still there 17 years later and occasionally i pull a Hmm and Confused face but i like them

SaucyJack · 03/05/2015 11:24

DP has Gollum proudly displayed on the bookcase next to his side of the bed. He's 38......

iwouldgoouttonight · 03/05/2015 11:30

If you love it it'll make you happy when you look at it, so go for it. Decorating our house was such a compromise between what me and DP like it's ended up being quite bland. If I lived alone I'd definitely decorate to reflect my tastes, and wouldn't care what anyone else thought.

LadyDeadpool · 03/05/2015 11:37

Other peoples nasty opinions don't count, yours do put it up and love it. Fuck the haterz Grin

HellonHeels · 03/05/2015 11:37

Congratulations on the new pad!

who cares what anyone else thinks - put whatever you like on your walls if it lifts your mood when you see it.

Not really to my taste but I far prefer something quirky like this than generic art from ikea/habitat etc.

PlanningMyFuture · 03/05/2015 11:45

It would remind me of Camelot Castle hotel in Tintagel.
A favourite place, covered with fantasy art.

Its different OP.
What's wrong with being different?
Go for what you like, not what you think you should like.

ThePinkOcelot · 03/05/2015 11:48

Hideous

SwedishEdith · 03/05/2015 11:51

Gosh, it's really horrible but I'm definitely in the "It's your place, decorate how you like" camp.

villainousbroodmare · 03/05/2015 11:55

Not for me but sure, go on, put it up. The first one is more magical.

Ah, it takes me back to when I bought my first flat and filled it full of all sorts of crap that I thought was both hip and tasteful. 20 years or so and 3 house moves later not many of those items remain. But I did love that first home fiercely.

Kundry · 03/05/2015 12:05

If you love it, go for it - and if I saw your home in real life I wouldn't tell you I thought your taste in pictures was minging, I'd just find something else to talk about, as would most people. Anyone telling you face to face that it's horrible is unbelievably rude.

But seriously, step away from the Thomas Kinkade. They are all shit.

MangoJuggler · 03/05/2015 12:08

It doesn't matter if we like it or not.

You do, so get hanging, girlfriend

muckleflugga · 03/05/2015 12:09

we have a Thomas Kincade shop on our high street so unfortunately I get to see pics like these on a regular basis. He is known as the 'Painter of Light', DH thinks they should replace the L with Sh Smile

claravine · 03/05/2015 12:09

Its quite pretty, don't see what all the hating on it is about about
