Actually labour are going to scrap the bedroom tax. I'm voting TUSC btw.

BetterTogether75 · 29/04/2015 21:10

It's good you have TUSC as an option, OP, hope they do well.

honeyroar · 29/04/2015 21:11

I always find it strange when families are so hostile towards democracy and people wanting to vote differently.

BetterTogether75 · 29/04/2015 21:11

pollypocket123 · 29/04/2015 21:13

He may well feel the same about you and Labour!

Lweji · 29/04/2015 21:15

It was Heaven on Earth under Labour for 13 years wasn't it..........hmm Esp if you lived in Iraq

The conservatives would have gone in as well. That doesn't really cut it in the comparison between the two.

Chocolatebreadcrumbs · 29/04/2015 21:16

Being capable of ever voting Tory would be the end for a relationship with me, however, I would have probably found that out early on!

judypoovey26 · 29/04/2015 21:19

My DH, and a few of my friends, will more likely than not be voting Conservative. I am fairly certain I won't be. However, we discuss politics a lot and to be honest there is a lot more common ground between Tories and Labour supporters than there is difference. For instance, I haven't noticed any massive difference between the Labour government of Brown and the current lot.

I've grown up in a household of differing political opinion and it has led to some heated arguments but frankly, they are good for the mind. I would never be ashamed of any of my family or friends for voting differently from me - even if they did vote UKIP, a party I simply can't bear. I might have to cease contact with anyone voting BNP, mind.

I am praying for a coalition. It's the nearest reflection to the real life melange of differing views, and might help more people feel represented than if one party alone comes to power.

So to answer your question, OP, YABU!

Missdread · 29/04/2015 21:20

His vote, his choice. YABU. (except if it's the racist homophobic UKIP of course Grin Grin )

Jacobsmum1972 · 29/04/2015 21:22

I'm not hostile to democracy !!!

OP posts:
poodledoodle01 · 29/04/2015 21:27

Unbelievable that people think TUSC is a good option!

Next you'll be saying the Greens manifesto is something to be taken seriously!

Why should council jobs should not be subject to cuts?

But the big question is with all these 'we won't cut this, we will increase this etc...'- who the hell is paying for this?

Mrsbird311 · 29/04/2015 21:28

And the bedroom tax? My single friend has a beautiful large three bedroom flat paid for by the tax payer still I'm sure the labour supporters think that is better spent on that than the disabled or elderly, I agree 100% with the bedroom tax why should the taxpayer pay for people to live in bigger homes than they need there is only so much money it needs to be spent fairly ( now I've made myself cross)

Jacobsmum1972 · 29/04/2015 21:28

TUSc are brilliant

OP posts:
EllenJanesthickerknickers · 29/04/2015 21:29

For me, I wouldn't love or respect someone enough to marry them if their political views were so far removed from my own. It's actually a moral issue for me. I know not everyone feels this way, but I do.

So, YANBU!

BetterTogether75 · 29/04/2015 21:32

Yes, Mrsbird I am quite sure that the Local Housing Allowance where you are allows a single person to get full Housing Benefit for a 3-bed flat.

Jimmy Hill chinny reckon

Jacobsmum1972 · 29/04/2015 21:32

Ellen I agree I still love dh. I still respect dh. Just a lil disappointed in him.

Andrewofgg · 29/04/2015 21:34

There's more to your politics than how you vote. My DSF was socially very conservative. He wanted gay people to stay in the closet and keep it to themselves and he would turn in his grave (if he had one; he was cremated) over same-sex marriage.

But he was an active trade-unionist and voted Labour.

Jacobsmum1972 · 29/04/2015 21:34

Mrsbird not that people in the private sector can live in homes with as many additional bedrooms as they like and not face any bedroom tax.

OP posts:
Stickledpink · 29/04/2015 21:36

I think that YABVU.

I also think this thread is very Goady and there are a lot of these about at the minute. It's almost like the Labour voters on here are setting up the bullets and the Conservative voters are firing them.

I really think that it's each person to his or her own who they vote for and nobody else's business IMO.

You should have just had the chat about it with you DH OP , instead of asking us whether you should be ashamed of him just because he votes politically for a different party to you.

HeeHiles · 29/04/2015 21:36

There are three things that would stop me marrying a man....

  1. Is religious
  2. Wears shoes with jeans
  3. Votes Tory

YANBU

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 29/04/2015 21:37

You use the word 'lil' here? I'm surprised your husband isn't divorcing you, no matter what your politics are... Shock

poodledoodle01 · 29/04/2015 21:40

TUSc are brilliant

Really? Why's that then

Chocolatebreadcrumbs · 29/04/2015 21:40

Local Housing Allowance meant that 'the taxpayer' gave those in need an amount which was calculated to allow them to rent enough rooms for their family. If they could find a 3 bed for a 2-bed rate of LHA, then well done them, or if they had a need (older child at Uni, etc) for a 3rd bedroom, and could scrape together the extra cash, they could top up the LHA to pay for a 3 bed.

When I was claiming LHA, I was entitled to the 2 bed rate. I looked around, and the options (that I would consider clean and liveable in) for that amount was a 'swanky' city centre bedsit, or an ordinary 3 bed house in the suburbs. There were NO NO! 2 bedroom places for rent for anywhere near the LHA sum. The only 1 or 2 beds were swanky flats, going for twice the sum of LHA. I spent the same amount of 'taxpayers' money', but by careful choosing of my priorities, I lived somewhere that better suited my family.

I needed support for a while. I worked hard. I've been a higher rate taxpayer for longer than I was ever on benefits.

Had the 'bedroom tax' been in place, I would have got less money for my sensible choice of the 3 bed house, but more money had I chose to get into debt, and rent a swanky 2 bed I couldn't afford. Totally barmy.

Actually yes it was, I was a lot better off under Labour - so stressed and struggling since Coalition came into power. Not that I want to vote Labour, would much rather the greens got in - but will vote Labour to keep the Tories out!
