You do realise that when you scratch below the surface, there is not massive amount of different between the CUP and Labour!

Both centre-right and authoritarian, albeit the Tories being ever so slightly more so.

Unless you are voting Greens, in which case he should be judging your support of astounding fiscal irresponsibility, or TUSC (also clueless when it comes to money) - there really isn't a lot in it!

The Lib Dems are actually further removed from the other two, than they are from each other.

Patsyandeddie · 29/04/2015 19:56

I presume he's just as horrified at you voting for Milliband!

richthegreatcornholio · 29/04/2015 20:03

I would be disgusted if DW was voting Labour, a real deal breaker. Fortunately she'd never even consider it.

Mrsbird311 · 29/04/2015 20:04

I completely understand where you are coming from I vote tory and would be horrified if my husband voted labour as I hate everything they stand for but at the end of the day it would be his choice but I would be ashamed of him

BudsBeginingSpringinSight · 29/04/2015 20:08

BudsBeginingSpringinSight · 29/04/2015 20:09

ooop Blush x post there mrs birth.

Sallystyle · 29/04/2015 20:10

YANBU

I would be very disappointed.

Cornettoninja · 29/04/2015 20:10

I've usually voted labour or liberal in the past.

Unfortunately we've moved and the horrible realisation dawned on me that my new area is staunchly Tory and has disturbing (to me at least) rumblings of ukip support. Neighbouring constituencies are almost guareenteed a good number of votes if not wins for ukip.

My liberal or labour vote really does mean fuck all around here and in the current climate I really don't want a ukip mp so tactically the lesser of the evils is to vote Tory to replace defectors to ukip.

It doesn't sit at all comfortably with me, but I'm voting for a local mp not the prime minister and its daft, imho, to risk letting ukip gain ground for the sake of a vote that does nothing but ease my conscience.

I'd dearly love to be talked down from tactical voting, but I genuinely can't justify it to myself this time round.

shewept · 29/04/2015 20:16

So it was a light hearted...let's have a dig at the Tories thread?

BMW6 · 29/04/2015 20:16

FFS.....Puerile thread of the day.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 29/04/2015 20:19

Buds For me it's that political opinions are a big part of someone's personality. It influences their attitudes and outlook on the world. I just wouldn't have enough in common with a Tory voter to ever get romantically involved with them, let alone marry them.

I don't think that's unusual - don't we all have things that influence who we do and don't form relationships with? For what it's worth, for me Tories are not unique. I feel the same about Man U fans, cat and/or dog haters, anyone who likes Metallica. They may be perfectly wonderful people, but there would always be a massive gulf between us.

Jacobsmum1972 · 29/04/2015 20:23

The reason why a thread like this never goes the other way is because the Labour Party has not privatised the Nhs, let a million people visit food banks, cut the disabled people's living fund and introduced a bedroom tax. Do you know what puts the cherry on the cake, the don't tax their tax avoiding friends.

That's not to say their aren't nice Tories. Them polices in my opinion are shameful. In 2010 I probably would not have been as embarrassed but voters are aware of these polices now know these polices so.

FFS when will the Labour left on here give up these Tory bashing threads.

Grow up

poodledoodle01 · 29/04/2015 20:31

The reason why a thread like this never goes the other way is because the Labour Party has not privatised the Nhs
yeah things were great under labour weren't they! I think you'll find independent organisations suggest that this is not what's happening!

let a million people visit food banks
that is indeed regrettable but it is neither a British, nor a centre-right party phenomenon. Take a look a European stats to see what's going on elsewhere.

introduced a bedroom tax
Don't see Labour repealing it do you. Funny that. The Tories make all the shitty hard decisions and everybody moans, but you know what, you won't see Labour reversing them!

Do you know what puts the cherry on the cake, the don't tax their tax avoiding friends
Yawn! Labour was so much better at doing this in the past weren't they?

Lighthearted eh OP Grin

How can you possibly be married to someone who supports all this? Grin

pointythings · 29/04/2015 20:32

I suspect that if DH and I could vote (we can't, he's a Yank and I'm Dutch) that we would be on opposing sides with him being right and me being left. You've just got to respect each other and accept your differences.

I have friends across the entire political spectrum and we do talk politics - we just don't let it get personal and nasty.

poodledoodle01 · 29/04/2015 20:33

Are you voting green then OP?

Getreadytorocknroll · 29/04/2015 20:34

Forgot to add if my DH voted for Dumb and Dumber ( as in Ed and Ed) to run the Country..... I would be mortified and would leave him, without any shadow of a doubt .

Thank fuck he isn't :)

TSSDNCOP · 29/04/2015 20:37

Bastard.

You know they hand the Tory voters puppies and kittens at the door of the polling station so they can kill them whilst in the voting booth and use their blood to tick the Tory box.

At least when you vote Labour you'll have that nice, clever Nicola doing the real string pulling at No. 10.

BMW6 · 29/04/2015 20:40

It was Heaven on Earth under Labour for 13 years wasn't it..........Hmm Esp if you lived in Iraq or you were Dr David Kelly......

Mrsbird311 · 29/04/2015 20:40

The thing about the food banks and I volunteer at one is that they have become huge money spinners, the trussel trust charge each individual food bank £1500 to join and a yearly fee and you find yourself spending more time collating info for them than you do helping people also many of the food banks are run by charities which have paid managing directors and other paid staff, it's moved on from being a couple of old ladies in the church making up parcels for the needy, most of the requests come from the local councils which pay for each parcel and request what items need to be provided, a couple of food banks have closed down nearby as too many were opening up and they didn't have enough clients to make it worthwhile , it's an eye opener for sure

SwirlyThingAlert · 29/04/2015 20:41

It's his vote. He can vote for whoever the hell he likes. Jack all to do with you and what your family thinks.

eyebags63 · 29/04/2015 20:48

I'm left of centre... might even waste my vote on the Greens this time around given that there is barely a 'fag paper' between Tory light Labour and Tory these days.

But I think YABVU. Not like he is voting NF or BNP !

OvertiredandConfused · 29/04/2015 21:00

My grandfather was a miner. His child is a Conservative councillor. My grandfather was very proud of him.

OneNight · 29/04/2015 21:01

People reading this thread can now get a little idea of what it's like in many parts of Scotland or many families in Scotland over the issue of independence.

BetterTogether75 · 29/04/2015 21:06

OP, congrats on getting all the Tories in a froth: "God, this is so peurile!" "You're so immatewer!" Sorry, but I just have to spell it like a sulky teenager says it Grin

BTW, Labour is committed to abolishing the bedroom tax and repealing the Health and Social Care Act 2012.
