Wht about if you drink champagne mixed with tennents?

hackmum · 30/04/2015 19:34

Can't be arsed to read the entire thread, but YANBU.

I would leave my DP if he said he was voting Conservative. And no, I'm not joking.

Merse · 30/04/2015 19:44

Malice you are right. There is plenty of naked self-interest driven voting too, I suppose. But I suppose I hope that is outweighed by people trying to vote for what they believe to be 'right' irrespective of the impact on themselves. Maybe I am hugely naive and no turkeys are likely to vote for Christmas! I do think plenty of people vote without giving any of the real issues much any thought which is equally bad, I suppose.

Hope all thread participants will be glued to the Leaders' Debate shortly and trying to listen objectively (hollow laugh). I suspect it will get quite lively at our house as DD (who is only 10) and DH already have quite opposing political views! Fine by me though; I am just pleased they are engaged and think it matters.

OTheHuge--didn't Hitler have a Nationalist, Socialist Party-or am I wrong ??

Lweji · 30/04/2015 20:17

Nazi is short for National Socialist. Not the same thing as socialist only.

FindoGask · 30/04/2015 20:30

Merse

If you're generally interested in an explanation of why austerity doesn't work, I read this good thing yesterday and I understood it for some hours afterwards. The chap that wrote it is some sort of famously genius economist (I won't pretend to know anything more about him) The Austerity Delusion

Erudite · 30/04/2015 20:57

No indeed. But absolutely the same thing as a Nationalist left wing party.......

happybubblebrain · 30/04/2015 21:02

Erudite - I had a dinner party tonight, it's funny you should mention that, it was mainly children though.

I think you can sometimes tell who somebody would vote for by looking at them, 10 minutes into conversation you can always tell. Without fail the people who turn out to be lovely people are not right wing.

I've never done a questionnaire, I've never needed to. Maybe I should, it would save me 10 minutes; and I need all the spare minutes I can get since the slave driving Tories got in and stole all my free time.

happybubblebrain · 30/04/2015 21:02

hackmum - brilliant. I would do the same.

prepperpig · 30/04/2015 21:05

Happybubblebrain you are really doing yourself a disservice

Erudite · 30/04/2015 21:05

Do you ask people, seriously?

And can't have been much of a dinner party if it was over by 9 pm Wink

Lweji · 30/04/2015 21:06

National Socialism still not the same as a socialist party who is nationalist, in the sense that it seeks independence of a territory.

Erudite · 30/04/2015 21:08

Bubblebrain epitomises the very worst thing about some Leftwingers.

When it comes to hosting dinner parties, they just aren't up to par! Right Wing dinner parties go on until the early hours Grin

Erudite · 30/04/2015 21:10

Wht about if you drink champagne mixed with tennents?

You have appalling judgement. Lib dem voter Wink.

kinkytoes · 30/04/2015 21:10

Bubblebrain are you actually for real?

And again I would love to know if voting for different political parties is actually grounds for divorce (although think I already know the answer to that!) Any solicitors here?

Erudite · 30/04/2015 21:10

National Socialism still not the same as a socialist party who is nationalist, in the sense that it seeks independence of a territory.

So, exactly like the SNP, then?

happybubblebrain · 30/04/2015 21:26

Right wing dinner parties - I admit I've never been to one. Does everyone talk about how much money they have? How many holidays homes they own? How much better they are then everyone else? I am slightly intrigued now, not enough to go to one though.

FindoGask · 30/04/2015 21:33

Erudite, I'm not sure why you're being so consistently twattish to happybubblebrain. All she said was that she thought it unlikely she'd want to be friends with you, which is fair enough really as you're not exactly going out of your way to prove her wrong.

(I don't know who I'm voting yet. But not Tory)

BeaufortBelle · 30/04/2015 21:39

Not yet happybubble but you have given me a brilliant idea for next Thursday: Steak, blue mash, purple sprouting broccoli; pale blue meringue for a blueberry pavlova. Lashings of wine and champagne with a dash of Blue Curacao. Grin.

Thank you so much for this suggestion.

TheCatsMother99 · 30/04/2015 21:40

Well now, I was out last Saturday at one with a bunch of friends. Out of 14 of us I only know that 3 are Tory voters. As I like my friends for who they are and how they are rather than for whom they vote we never talk politics. Or house prices. I can tell you that fabulous food was eaten, many bottles of wine were drunk , laughs were had and a wonderful evening was enjoyed by all there regardless of their political persuasion!

Erudite · 30/04/2015 21:44

May I come too, Beaufort Belle?

I can bring Prosecco and some witty repartee Grin

BeaufortBelle · 30/04/2015 21:47

Of course Erudite - it might be hardcore though!

Erudite · 30/04/2015 21:51

Marvellous! I'm assuming it will go on until the votes are counted?

Justanotherlurker · 30/04/2015 21:54

Right wing dinner parties - I admit I've never been to one.

Funny because I've been to many dinner parties with right and left leaning, you seem a little niave with the following as the rest of your points can be fairly squared at some of the most ardent labour supporters...

Does everyone talk about how much money they have?

Usually by mentioning how much their house price has increased , and anecdotally university vc's discussing the dismal pay rise.

How many holidays homes they own?

Do you mean those on the left that have small 'villas' in France/et al or the small cottage they own in Cornwall or maybe their 'small' btl pension fund whilst expecting the state to pick up the tab as long as though they don't suffer personally? Or are you naively trying to suggest that all those holiday home owners are conservative voters?

How much better they are then everyone else?

I think you have ironically shot yourself in the foot with this, considering your last line.

I am slightly intrigued now, not enough to go to one though.
