Its just GOPPING.
Its like a nicotine based apartheid ( slight overstatement) where the TINY percentage of smokers (a sixth of the population) in the country force the rest of us inside to get away from their stench and litter.

elizabeth If they can smoke inside, then happily ban them outside.

KneeQuestion · 25/04/2015 12:30

Tiny percentage?

Maybe, but its still 10 million people!

OwlinaTree · 25/04/2015 12:30

Thanks not heard it before. I wouldn't say a sixth of the population is a tiny percentage. It's about 16%?

There are lots of places now that have a non smoking outside space. Start ringing pubs and restaurants and asking them if they have non smoking outside areas. If enough people feel the same as you things will change.

OwlinaTree · 25/04/2015 12:31

Poor smokers can't even smoke outside now!

ElizabethHoover · 25/04/2015 12:31

i got the stats from ASH

its an interesting read

They don't force 'the rest ' of us indoors at all.
I'm a non smoker (well, ex of 10 years) actually. If I sit in an area where smoking is allowed then I expect some people may smoke around me. It doesn't actually bother me, but if it did then I'd go indoors.
It's really up to the restaurant if they want to provide smoking/non smoking areas outside (where it's legal to smoke) and it's up to each customer to decide if that situation suits them.

They could put hats on like this maybe?

YANBU.

Nothing worse than trying to enjoy nice food and sunshine and some dirty minger's cancer smoke wafting in your face.

YANAgurl1973 · 25/04/2015 12:33

Owlina of course they can smoke outside, just have some common courtesy and not smoke near people who are eating.

ElizabethHoover · 25/04/2015 12:34

as someone who struggles with maths, I am reluctant to get into a Stats based row Grin but it cant be 10 million as that would be toddlers smoking too Shock

KneeQuestion · 25/04/2015 12:35

ElizabethHoover · 25/04/2015 12:36

KneeQuestion · 25/04/2015 12:40

Nope, I am shit at maths too.

Agree with usualsuspect.

ElizabethHoover · 25/04/2015 12:41

lordy Usual. Tunics fags.. are you a inhales VEGETARIAN* too"? Grin

OP posts:
OddBoots · 25/04/2015 12:44

I'm really not fussed by people smoking outside, I can usually avoid it and however unpleasant the smell its relative harm compared to smoke in an enclosed space is low.

I do get annoyed seeing people driving while smoking though, if people can be prosecuted for eating or drinking while stopped at traffic lights then I don't understand why smoking is accepted even when on the move.

expatinscotland · 25/04/2015 12:44

I agree with usual.

usualsuspect333 · 25/04/2015 12:47

No I'm not a vegetation,

You can cross that off your disappointed in Usual list. Grin

I'm not a vegetarian either.

Stupid bloody kindle.

landoflostcontent · 25/04/2015 12:50

I don't smoke, I dislike the smell of cigarette smoke but it soon dissipates outside.

I hope none of the passionate "I'd ban all smokers everywhere" posters ever have barbecues which give off a foul stench, the smoke drifts into neighbouring houses clinging to curtains and yet are somehow socially acceptable. And have also been known to ruin a day out on the beach.

Im quite tolerant really Smile

GottaFeeling · 25/04/2015 13:06

I'm not sure a ban is realistic or even desirable but I agree the ban on smoking indoors has ruined a sunny afternoon in the beer garden.
