Its just GOPPING.
Its like a nicotine based apartheid ( slight overstatement) where the TINY percentage of smokers (a sixth of the population) in the country force the rest of us inside to get away from their stench and litter.

Smokers are selfish, and that is a fact.

I used to be one, until I was 23 and met my dh and suddenly felt embarrassed that I smoked (not that he ever mentioned it). I cringe now when I think how I used to smoke wherever I wanted to, and sod everyone else.

usualsuspect333 · 25/04/2015 15:00

Poor dogs getting smoke blown into their faces. Sad

usualsuspect333 · 25/04/2015 15:02

What I like to do is, choose a table next to a family and light up then blow smoke all over their dinner.

TheJiminyConjecture · 25/04/2015 15:05

I'd rather the smokers in the pub garden than children.

And I say that as a pregnant ex smoker with DC Grin

ItsAllKickingOffPru · 25/04/2015 15:06

Sometimes you have to hang around for ages before you find a suitable family to sit next to Sad Sad Sad

Debinaround · 25/04/2015 15:06

I don't think it's the smokers that are sulking. It's more like the other way round.

Non smokers say "we don't want to inhale your smoke. It's now against the law to smoke in public buildings. Get outside."

Smokers say ok and go outside to smoke.

Then the sun comes out. Non smokers say "but we want to sit outside. You filthy smokers go away. We don't want you smoking outside ether."

So smokers can't smoke outside or inside without some delicate non smoking snowflake stamping their feet because "it's not fair....."

Smokers can't win.

ParkingFred · 25/04/2015 15:10

The perfect MN pub garden would have an area for smokers at the front of the premises, another separate area for small shrieking children and their oblivious parents, another for women wearing dresses from Joe Brown or White Stuff with leggings and yet another for staffs and their owners.

GottaFeeling · 25/04/2015 15:21

"Smokers are selfish, and that is a fact."

All addicts are selfish it's part of the condition.

However, I have never understood the appeal of pavement cafes or beer gardens on busy roads.

Used to be almost exactly the same when the situation was reversed.

Sirzy · 25/04/2015 17:10

Most smokers aren't selfish actually, most will have the manners to not start smoking near others unless they are in a smoking area. Just a small minority who don't think or don't care

IKnowIAmButWhatAreYou · 25/04/2015 17:15

Personally I'd ban people eating at the outdoor smoking tables - that'd solve it for once & for all....

Debinaround · 25/04/2015 17:18

So what's the solution? Where do the smokers go?

Obviously they can't go inside. If there is not separate smoking areas outside cafés and pubs where do people want them to go?

Does anyone have an answer that's fair to everyone? Not that the smokers have to go stand by the bins or go home

Sirzy · 25/04/2015 17:21

I think when an area is big enough then they should have clearly marked smoking/no smoking tables.

When it isn't it becomes harder and it comes down to manners - move away from tables if others are sat near by (as ask "do you mind if I smoke"), or don't sit near a table where people are smoking if you aren't happy to sit next to smokers.

Bakeoffcake · 25/04/2015 17:23

I think smokers need to show consideration and check the smoke isn't wafting into someone's face.

It's really that simple, many are considerate but a few are selfish and that gives them all a bad name.

LustyBusty · 25/04/2015 17:31

Aaah, all the people saying about disrespectful smokers... Don't ever visit a Mediterranean country. I am currently in a town in a pleasant country, where smoking is banned indoors. Fine, I'm used to that. I had lunch at a cafe that had NO inside seating, and of the 20 tables they had outside, 12 of them had smokers on them (me included) and 3 were empty. I strongly advise a) deal with it or b) move somewhere you don't want to eat outside. HTH Grin

Alexandpea · 25/04/2015 17:36

YANBU. Why should non smokers have to huddle inside on a sunny day to avoid having their meals (and lungs) ruined by selfish sh*ts with cancer sticks?

Drives me mad that so many smokers seem to think they can monopolise outdoor space without any consideration for fellow diners as pay back for being forced outside. Yes non smokers have the option of going inside, but smokers also have the option of exercising some restraint and going inside. Boo boo, an hour without a fag.

But my grandad suffered a lingering painful illness and death from emphysema (think gradual suffocation over 5 painful years), after witnessing that I'm furious when other people's smoke is inflicted on me.

DarthVadersTailor · 25/04/2015 17:36

Yaaaaaay another smoker-bashing thread almost identical to the last. Hmm

usualsuspect333 · 25/04/2015 17:39

You are happy for us to have the outside space in winter. We ain't moving in the summer.

ItsAllKickingOffPru · 25/04/2015 17:42

I wouldn't know where to sit, ParkingFred

LaurieFairyCake · 25/04/2015 17:46

But they're not monopolising outdoor space, they don't have the choice to sit inside and smoke.

BoneyBackJefferson · 25/04/2015 18:07

LaurieFairyCake

Actually they can sit inside and smoke, but they would have to stay home to do so.

Shodan · 25/04/2015 18:16

It's a true made up for dramatic effect fact that smokers are like cats.

Just as a cat will make a beeline for a non-cat lover, so a smoker will make a beeline for an whinging non-smoker.

It's like a sixth sense. The more you whinge, the more smokers you'll attract.

itsnotmeitsyou1 · 25/04/2015 18:16

Don't know why I opened this thread. You can try your best, but it's still going to take a loooong time to make smokers disappear for society. I bet most moaners on here live somewhere where there are other fumes from some source anyway. Hell, even in the country, I'd rather smoker stink to animal muck. How great are pubs and cafes now, especially during a hot summer, the smell of BO, crap food and general disappointment. Thank goodness for banning smoking.

God I need a smoke.....

morethanpotatoprints · 25/04/2015 18:19

I'd ban complaining and moaning outside and let the smokers back inside now all the none smokers insist on sitting in the smoking area Grin

Cantbelievethisishappening · 25/04/2015 18:22

Oh stop fucking whining OP. How do you cope with car pollution... you should be more worried about that.
And as has been already pointed out..... this is identical to a recent thread.
