Its just GOPPING.
Its like a nicotine based apartheid ( slight overstatement) where the TINY percentage of smokers (a sixth of the population) in the country force the rest of us inside to get away from their stench and litter.

"There is absolutely no one I know who has died through passive smoking."

There is absolutely no one I know who has died through liver disease. Doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Grin

(I'm not suggesting that sitting next to a smoker in a pub garden will kill you btw but your statement did made me smile.)

daffsandtulips · 25/04/2015 21:43

Well there isn't. It was an honest answer. People are practically hysterical about smoking, that makes me laugh. Stress is the biggest killer Grin

Bakeoffcake · 25/04/2015 21:44

You must be a similar age as me Daff, you do remember Roy Castle don't you? He has lung cancer casued by passive smoking. It was his death that got lots of publicity about the whole issue actually.

Bakeoffcake · 25/04/2015 21:45

Gosh, a lot of smokers live with their heads in the sand don't theyGrin

daffsandtulips · 25/04/2015 21:46

Like I said Bakeoff, In enclosed spaces where you're practically smoking 50 a day, then yes its a possibility but other than that no.

daffsandtulips · 25/04/2015 21:48

A lot of non smokers are hysterical about probably breathing in a nano fraction of the fumes in outside areas Grin

daffsandtulips · 25/04/2015 21:51

Smoking is on the decrease yet cancer is on the increase? Why could that be then bakeoff?

YouTheCat · 25/04/2015 21:53

But I doubt the risk from passive smoking outside is more than the risk from car fumes.

I bet a whole heap of you drive on a daily basis.

chaletdays · 25/04/2015 21:54

"Most smokers are also kind enough to remember those around them when smoking"

No, they aren't. They really aren't.

daffsandtulips · 25/04/2015 21:55

Its just a hysterical hype now YouTheCat. I wonder what the government is really hiding?

I don't get hysterical about it, I just hate the smell of smoke.

It's vile so would prefer not to smell it, especially whilst I'm eating. I also don't like people, especially strangers sneezing all over my food, or letting off a great big fart while I'm eating.

Like I say, no hysteria involved, just a preference.

daffsandtulips · 25/04/2015 21:57

There are alway going to be disrespectful "people" chalet so don't "group" us all together there ay.

YouTheCat · 25/04/2015 21:57

And I hate the smell of diesel/petrol. Such is life.

Bakeoffcake · 25/04/2015 21:58

No one is questioning that Youcat.

People were just responding to posters suggesting that you can't develop cancer from passive smoking.

toldmywrath · 25/04/2015 21:58

Sorry what does 'fricken' mean?

chaletdays · 25/04/2015 21:58

Gosh yes daff all those experts are obviously wrong. They should have just asked you. Confused

chaletdays · 25/04/2015 21:59

Daff, I was disagreeing with the fact that 'most' smokers are considerate; not saying that 'all' smokers are inconsiderate. Ok, aye?

YouTheCat · 25/04/2015 21:59

But Bakeoff, this thread is about smoking outside.

All the studies done about passive smoking are to do with smoking indoors. It's just not relevant.

PunkrockerGirl · 25/04/2015 22:00

Bakeoff You are talking to the wrong person (nursed for many years). I've nursed more people for longer than you've had an opinion about smoking. I don't nurse my terminally ill patients judgementally or without compassion. Fortunately, I don't need your helpful advice or wanky links to tell me how to do my job

ShakesBootyFlabWobbles · 25/04/2015 22:00

Whatever you are whinging about YAdNBU based on your use of the word fricken.

Fricken love that word Grin

Sirzy · 25/04/2015 22:00

For some people breathing in cigarette smoke can make them ill. It can trigger an asthma attack for my son in seconds. Generally we avoid sitting outside but sometimes we do when places are quiet and it is annoying to then have someone light up next to us rather than having the manners to move to somewhere where it wouldn't impact on others

daffsandtulips · 25/04/2015 22:01

I feel sick when I get a continual waft of someones perfume, it gets down my throat. I feel sick when I smell fish. I feel sick when someone sitting near me is wearing hairspray.

Get over yourself Bakeoff Grin

chaletdays · 25/04/2015 22:01

Oh and the people referring to other threads and posts the OP has made are pretty despicable.

YouTheCat · 25/04/2015 22:01

Chalet, you probably wouldn't notice the considerate ones though because they're being considerate.

Having said that, a woman did once thank me because I had moved 10 metres away from a bus stop to light up.
