to wish I could vote ukip loud and proud

Mumof4worried · 22/04/2015 19:09

I've nc for this, as I generally have to in life.

I'm voting ukip, I live in Peterborough where we have had massive immigration. The affects have been huge. Enlargement of EU distroyed dh building business overnight. The schools are close to bursting and have to do a school run to two different schools, had a 5 hour wait in a and e. Teenage son struggles to get part time farm work like I did when I was a teenager. House prices are out of control, god knows how any of mine will ever leave home.

I'm not saying all of these are 100% to do with uncontrolled immigration, but it has Made the problems so much worse.

I'm not racist, most of my friends are 2nd gen Asians or homophobic, my brother and his husband visit a lot.

I just want an oz type points immigration system. I don't care that lots are highly skilled, that is often very bad as it leads to a brain drain in other countries and my children will have to compete with the worlds most ambitious and motivated people.

I just want to be able to express these thoughts but I'm shamed into hiding them by the media.

Question:

Why do you let yourselves get so wound up about UKIP? Confused
According to you lot, they're not important! they're a rubbish party that are not worth talking about.
And yet, you are getting reallywound up about a non-important party? Why get so riled?
Do you see them as a threat? Is that it?
I don't see you getting as upset about Conservatives or any of the other parties,
but, UKIP?

They seem to really Yank Your Chain - Dont They? Hmm

This thread is quite telling Shock and interesting
It's been a real learning curve.

Off to bed for real.
Night night.
Love to all!

the*! Before my grammar gets attacked...quick!

GiddyOnZackHunt · 24/04/2015 23:09

It's beyond credible isn't it, Saga?

purdiepie · 24/04/2015 23:09

60% of Britons are not happy with immigration levels. That's more than the readership of the Daily Mail. How do you explain this?

ghostyslovesheep · 24/04/2015 23:10

the UKIP shag - promises much - delivers very very little Grin

I'm not wound up in the slightest btw - it's amusing me

GiddyOnZackHunt · 24/04/2015 23:10

Wound up? Oh you big silly.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 24/04/2015 23:11

Purdie Linky please.

ghostyslovesheep · 24/04/2015 23:12

I'd explain it by 'are you unhappy with immigration levels' being a very vague and badly phrased question

I'm unhappy with them - I'd like more

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 24/04/2015 23:13

UKIPer: fan of the strike-out

I'm sure early on in the thread someone suggested a basic IQ test to determine the right to vote.

The more I read, the more I think that might not be a bad thing.

And the story about goldys parents is very enlightening. The apple really doesn't fall far from the tree, does it?

ElectraCute · 24/04/2015 23:15

Where did you get that stat from, purdie?

And if that tpreally is the case, how do you explain the fact that even Farage is unlikely to gain a seat on 7th May?

Kampeki · 24/04/2015 23:17

Do you see them as a threat?

I have already explained that I see UKIP as a very serious threat. Did you not read my earlier post?

I consider any far right party to be a threat to civilised society and common decency. Others on this thread have pointed out the historical parallels which show where unthinking support for the far right can ultimately end up.

And yet you still need to ask why people get upset about UKIP? I'd have thought it was pretty obvious, but perhaps I'm guilty of overestimating your intelligence.

chicaguapa · 24/04/2015 23:17

chica that is a horrible thought

Yes it is. We've already seen pp agreeing that forrin people with HIV should be left to die rather than share our NHS to save them. You don't think that if UKIP (or any party) offered a reward to report immigrants (illegal or otherwise) living next door, they'd resist? Even if they knew these people could lose their jobs, belongings and be sent back to whatever country their family might have originated from one or more generations ago? People are so caught up in believing that this will solve the UK's problems they'd probably believe they were doing the right thing.

The fact is if you asked someone why they were voting UKIP, they'd mention the words immigrants and problem in the same sentence. So even if that's not what UKIP are standing for, the majority of their voters think they do.

However, if someone was genuinely far right wing and felt that UKIP represent their views, fair enough (kind of). But buying into the idea that marginalisation and persecution is an acceptable resolution is dangerous and, as mentioned above, shows some people have learnt nothing from the mistakes of the past.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 24/04/2015 23:18

How does anyone explain the readership of the Daily Mail?

purdiepie · 25/04/2015 00:21

Cameron said only today in an article that he will tackle the 'problem of immigration'. What do you think He means by that? He also wants an end to immigrants bringing their families over and not learning a word of English. He wants a stop to this. Why do you think Cameron feels this way? His missus listens to music influenced by Shulamith Firestone. Surely Dave can't be racist?

Kampeki · 25/04/2015 00:28

I suspect that his primary motivation is to persuade voters to vote for him, rather than UKIP. That's why all of the big parties have jumped on the bandwagon of being "tough on immigration". Instead of challenging the rhetoric, it's easier to just echo it.

For all that I hate Cameron, I don't think he is racist. He's just scared of losing the election. I don't think he gives a toss about immigration in reality.

purdiepie · 25/04/2015 00:37

Well, no...because his housekeeper is Filipino and his children's nanny is Polish.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 25/04/2015 00:38

Many posts ago someone linked to a policy from 2 decades ago saying immigration was an issue. Michael Howard tried to tackle it in his own peculiar way. I mentioned Wimdrush and Uganda in earlier posts. The idea we're protecting something is a nonsense. We eat Chinese food. Why? Immigration. We love a curry. Why? Immigration. Pizza. Kebab. They aren't 'English' but they've been taken to our guts.
The 'problem' of 'immigration' is the right wing press' demonisation of immigrants. It isn't the immigrants. If they come here for a good life then they want that good life. The story of first generation immigrants is mostly working like a dog to prevent their children doing the same.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 25/04/2015 07:48

Absolutely, Giddy. As someone mentioned earlier, immigrants are used as scapegoats to deflect from a much deeper and corrupt problem I feel.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 25/04/2015 07:52

And I must say as someone said earlier as well, that the one great thing I have gotten from this thread is so many like-minded people. Maybe there is hope for humanity after all. Smile

DoraGora · 25/04/2015 08:43

How does anyone explain the readership of the Daily Mail?

It's a comic for poorly educated people who like to moan about life in general and feel superior from a relatively low base.

LikeIcan · 25/04/2015 08:56

It's funny, a few years ago labour supporters were seen as uneducated dimwits, it was only the invention of 'new Labour' that their 'image' changed ( a bit ) Still, most labour supporters are uneducated people living in dull Northern Towns - so what? they're still entitled to vote.

DoraGora · 25/04/2015 09:01

Support for a political party had been likely to be traditional. Readership of a newspaper was a much simpler choice. In the modern days of the floating voter, they're both entirely optional!

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 25/04/2015 09:11
