to wish I could vote ukip loud and proud

Mumof4worried · 22/04/2015 19:09

I've nc for this, as I generally have to in life.

I'm voting ukip, I live in Peterborough where we have had massive immigration. The affects have been huge. Enlargement of EU distroyed dh building business overnight. The schools are close to bursting and have to do a school run to two different schools, had a 5 hour wait in a and e. Teenage son struggles to get part time farm work like I did when I was a teenager. House prices are out of control, god knows how any of mine will ever leave home.

I'm not saying all of these are 100% to do with uncontrolled immigration, but it has Made the problems so much worse.

I'm not racist, most of my friends are 2nd gen Asians or homophobic, my brother and his husband visit a lot.

I just want an oz type points immigration system. I don't care that lots are highly skilled, that is often very bad as it leads to a brain drain in other countries and my children will have to compete with the worlds most ambitious and motivated people.

I just want to be able to express these thoughts but I'm shamed into hiding them by the media.

I would like to have more details on the stats that proove EU imigrsnts are overall positive to the economy.

I do worry this is only short term as they are young economically active so of course they will pay more than they take out. Also what about the affect of the worlds highly motivated individuals that move to a country with a shortage of jobs and the knock on affect of putting other, less capable, people on JSA / housing benefit and all that?

Its not a clear black and white.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 24/04/2015 09:22

But at least I'm not falling in love with people just because they post something I agree with.

Narneenarneenarnar.

Are you going to pull my hair next?

What Saga and MrDV sittin' in a tree
K.I.S.S.I.N.GEEEE

Grin I feel all a'fluster!

GiddyOnZackHunt · 24/04/2015 09:23

Where are the threads where people say "I don't like UKIP's policy on immigration but I do support some of their other policies"? Did I miss the threads from people having a massive conflict over smoking in pubs versus leaving the EU?

goldylookingpane · 24/04/2015 09:50

The biggest political threat is the left thinking they know best - 'we're right you're wrong, we're clever you're stupid' - that was their attitude over immigration, ( & probably still is ) that's the problem. Calling anyone who dares to have concerns over immigration 'racist' hmm & it's happened all through this thread. Anyone supporting UKIP are ignorant idiots who shouldn't be allowed the vote - I think the charming phrase 'fuckwits' was even used.
With an arrogant attitude like that ( & it is pure arrogance ) you can't be surprised when right wing parties rise up & bite you on the arse.

Don't worry!
Every time somebody comments, even if it's to criticize, it's more publicity for UKIP -Over 700 posts - they must be popular.

What's also strange - For people that supposedly hate the party, people don't half go on about it a lot. Hmm
If they didn't see UKIP as a threat, then why are people getting so het-up about it in the first place. Confused

Lweji · 24/04/2015 09:51

I would like to have more details on the stats that prove EU immigrants are overall positive to the economy.

How about wanting the stats that show that immigrants are overall negative to the economy?
Instead of just a feeling?
Can you show them?

DoraGora · 24/04/2015 09:52

Because, in a democracy, even racist idiots get a vote!

GiddyOnZackHunt · 24/04/2015 09:52

Goldy are you ever going to answer my question about mental health spending?

Lweji · 24/04/2015 09:56

Also what about the affect of the worlds highly motivated individuals that move to a country with a shortage of jobs and the knock on affect of putting other, less capable, people on JSA / housing benefit and all that?

Do you think the less capable people will be displaced by the highly motivated individuals?
High drive individuals can only have a positive effect on the economy, helping pay towards those who can't be arsed to work or are less capable.
They may even create jobs! They will spend money. Shock, surprise! And employ those who are less capable.

They also have children... Who will work in the country where they were born, in all probability.

goldylookingpane · 24/04/2015 09:59

Goldy are you ever going to answer my question about mental health spending?

I did, if you bothered to read back, but here goes again

  • Increase mental health funding by £170 million a year
  • End the postcode lottery for psychiatric liaison services in acute hospital & A & E
  • Offer access to specialist mental health treatment to pregnant women and new mothers.

No. 3 is a surprise! According to some of you lefty loonie, UKIP hate women?

Lweji · 24/04/2015 10:00

The biggest political threat is the left thinking they know best

Or the right thinking they know best. It depends on the point of view. Grin

Whereas wanting immigration control is not necessarily racist, quite a few of the arguments, particularly those about Britishness, are.
And most objections are knee jerk reactions apportioning blame to the most vulnerable sector without consideration to the real reasons for the problems with the NHS, education and the economy.
If you stopped immigration right now, or kicked the immigrants now, do you really think any of those would suddenly get better?

catgirl1976 · 24/04/2015 10:01

That wasn't the question asked Goldy

goldylookingpane · 24/04/2015 10:03

As much as I would like to trawl through every single policy, for every single party this morning, some of us have to go to work. You can read. Why not look these things up yourself?

parsnipbob · 24/04/2015 10:04

Hahaha love it Goldy - what a roundabout way of saying 'I have literally no idea what I'm talking about.'

GiddyOnZackHunt · 24/04/2015 10:04

Not that question! I read the answer you c&p from the BBC quick guide.
No the question I've asked several times is why, if mental health is something you're so passionate about, are you not voting LibDem as they have the largest specific investment commitment to mental health spending in their manifesto?
Or was mental health just a useful stick to beat another poster with?

goldylookingpane · 24/04/2015 10:09

I have some questions of my own:

I don't agree with labour policies, I don't agree with LIb Dem or SNP.
But, I don't get angry and bitter and all in a flap when somebody talks about those parties.
I listen, then I might disagree, but I don't get my knickers in a twist about it.

The way people have reacted to UKIP on this thread, shows me that people DO take UKIP seriously and DO see them as a serious contender and possibly a threat.
If UKIP weren't a threat, they wouldn't generate so much reaction.

You have all proved a point really. but you can't see it

goldylookingpane · 24/04/2015 10:13

If you stopped immigration right now, or kicked the immigrants now,

Get real. Nobody wants to kick immigrants out.

Immigrants that are already here should be made to feel welcome and should enjoy the same services we do. Why not?

They're here.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 24/04/2015 10:13

I'm not angry or bitter. I'm trying to debate but you won't answer me :( My knickers are exactly where they should be thanks.

Now which of these points of yours is a question?

And is describing someone as a 'loonie' not at odds with your earlier stance?

goldylookingpane · 24/04/2015 10:16

I've lost count of the swivel eyed comments, so I think a few loonies thrown in here and there for good measure kinda balances things out nicely, don't you think? Smile

goldylookingpane · 24/04/2015 10:17

I'm trying to debate but you won't answer me

It's difficult for a proper debate to take place when people are being attacked.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 24/04/2015 10:18

And if you don't agree with Labour policies what do you makes of the numbers of HCPs they want to recruit into the NHS? Too few? Too many? Do you disagree with all their policies? Have you checked them out?

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 24/04/2015 10:18

I think it's simply that many are baffled why anyone would choose to actively try and plummet this county into a regressive state by voting for such a hate-filled, bigoted party.

catgirl1976 · 24/04/2015 10:19

UKIP generate such a strong reaction because people find their views so abhorrent, not because they are worried they will get many seats in the election.

Racism, homophobia, misogny and bigotry are things people feel very strongly about. And with good reason. When people do not react very strongly to these things, then we all fucked.

Threesoundslikealot · 24/04/2015 10:19

UKIP is pretty much at the end of its life. Farage looks past caring, it'll win a tiny number of seats, quite possibly just one, and it will make no impact as a party. So I don't worry about UKIP per se.

UKIP has already achieved (a) a commitment to an in/out referendum from the Conservatives (b) the constant discussion of immigration and measures on stricter controls in the manifestos of the three biggest parties and (c) providing an outlet for some of the many people disenchanted by the current political landscape. So I think they will claim to have made a difference.

I am one of the many who feels no real pull to any party but I'm afraid the UKIP rhetoric, and fundamental disregard for facts, leaves me cold. But the fact that so many people in this country feel that politics is failing them worries me deeply, as does the fact that this means a party based on an undercurrent of hostility, misinformation and misplaced nostalgia attracts support. Something needs to change and I personally don't have the foggiest what the best way forward is. UKIP as a political force however really doesn't keep me awake at night.
