to wish I could vote ukip loud and proud

I've nc for this, as I generally have to in life.

I'm voting ukip, I live in Peterborough where we have had massive immigration. The affects have been huge. Enlargement of EU distroyed dh building business overnight. The schools are close to bursting and have to do a school run to two different schools, had a 5 hour wait in a and e. Teenage son struggles to get part time farm work like I did when I was a teenager. House prices are out of control, god knows how any of mine will ever leave home.

I'm not saying all of these are 100% to do with uncontrolled immigration, but it has Made the problems so much worse.

I'm not racist, most of my friends are 2nd gen Asians or homophobic, my brother and his husband visit a lot.

I just want an oz type points immigration system. I don't care that lots are highly skilled, that is often very bad as it leads to a brain drain in other countries and my children will have to compete with the worlds most ambitious and motivated people.

I just want to be able to express these thoughts but I'm shamed into hiding them by the media.

Oh yes, the Guardian, font of all knowledge!

Perhaps people would be better looking at immigration and emmigration statistics from the government. I found this website very enlightening. The levels of immigration from the early 90s onwards are unprecedented.

I meant to say immigrants who haven't been contributing all their lives should go to the back of the queue.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 23/04/2015 12:10

I want a progressive future where we evolve as compassionate beings who take care of each other and this planet. I couldn't give two shits about my kids seeing a future that is "unrecognisable from my childhood." I want them to see a future of tolerance, for one.

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 23/04/2015 12:11

ooh, despite being Australian, all my ancestry is British...shall I claim native title?

On a serious note, I am an immigrant who came over for what was meant to be a few years, but then stayed for marriage - anyone who thinks this is an easy route into the UK best think again! I am on the fence about who to vote for, but it sure won't be UKIP!

it's not unprecedented. It's unusual for this country. other countries have been doing this for 50 years.

By the way, until 1993, there was essentially net migration out of this country for years. Don't you just hate those horrible british emigres going to other countries, using their NHS and taking their jobs?

LikeIcan · 23/04/2015 12:12

It's worrying that there are people on this thread who believe anything British is bad & anything foreign is good. Why do some British people hate themselves & their country?
How did it get like this?

who thinks that?

new ideas are welcome. good ideas are then adopted and bad ones discarded.

what is the desire to live in some stagnant time warp?

Self-disgust and distrust of Nationalism is an English national characteristic?

"Nationalism is for other countries, countries we'd conquered. We don't need nationalism, we've got all we want!"

I thought it was Luxenbourg with the highest percentage of foreigners

You think British values is getting drunk & eating fish & chips?

How disrespectful to the 1000's of men & women who lost their lives fighting for this country.

Lweji · 23/04/2015 12:22

I meant to say immigrants who haven't been contributing all their lives should go to the back of the queue.

How about nationals who haven't contributed all their lives?

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 23/04/2015 12:25

Who are you talking to, LikeIcan? Confused

GiddyOnZackHunt · 23/04/2015 12:26

Ooh when did the fish and chips arrive?

LikeIcan · 23/04/2015 12:28

No one in particular - it's just the general tone of the thread.

LadyDeadpool · 23/04/2015 12:29

If only people who pay into the pot of the NHS should be able to access it does that also exclude people on disability benefits?

Vote UKIP if you want I can't stop you but when you lose your rights because you're a woman or you end up on benefits/disabled just remember you helped bring that about.

parsnipbob · 23/04/2015 12:29

Likeican, please enlighten us. What are British values? I thought they were tolerance, understanding and compassion, am I wrong?

keepitsimple0 · 23/04/2015 12:30

Lweji

that was an edit to my previous post. If you see that in context, the point was in fact the opposite of what appears. (sloppy edit and original post).

My point was at Iknow. She/he proposes that people who have contributed to the system all their lives (but she/he fails to mention also taken from the system all their lives) should get priority for services. I said that's an awful idea both practically and morally.

BIWI · 23/04/2015 12:33

I think you'll find, scatter, that in both WW1 and WW2 people were fighting for their liberty, not because they were defending 'British values'.

I'm still waiting for anyone who rejects the idea of immigration because it will dilute 'British values' to define what they might be.

idoru The Guardian article was a report on the statistics provided by Eurostat, which is Government data here

What's the problem with that? Would those percentages be more believable if they were presented in The Times, or The Sun, or The Daily Express?

GiddyOnZackHunt · 23/04/2015 12:35

But UKIP are the only party that have Save The Pub as a manifesto commitment. They obviously like the idea of drinking beer. Drunkenness has been a notable British trait remarked upon by foreigners over many centuries.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 23/04/2015 12:36

And have you seen the British Army at play?

MsDevere well said. East Londoner here too, born and bred :)

I think you'll find, scatter, that in both WW1 and WW2 people were fighting for their liberty, not because they were defending 'British values'.

And lots of people who died defending 'England' were Australian, New Zealanders, Canadian, Americans, Poles, Czechs, Belgians, French, Dutch, Norwegian, Indian, West Indian, Chinese and of course, Irish, Scottish and Welsh.
