to wish I could vote ukip loud and proud

Mumof4worried · 22/04/2015 19:09

I've nc for this, as I generally have to in life.

I'm voting ukip, I live in Peterborough where we have had massive immigration. The affects have been huge. Enlargement of EU distroyed dh building business overnight. The schools are close to bursting and have to do a school run to two different schools, had a 5 hour wait in a and e. Teenage son struggles to get part time farm work like I did when I was a teenager. House prices are out of control, god knows how any of mine will ever leave home.

I'm not saying all of these are 100% to do with uncontrolled immigration, but it has Made the problems so much worse.

I'm not racist, most of my friends are 2nd gen Asians or homophobic, my brother and his husband visit a lot.

I just want an oz type points immigration system. I don't care that lots are highly skilled, that is often very bad as it leads to a brain drain in other countries and my children will have to compete with the worlds most ambitious and motivated people.

I just want to be able to express these thoughts but I'm shamed into hiding them by the media.

Yes, parsnip...and entitled. Anyone who can be cold and selfish towards other less unfortunate (Tories cough UKIP coughcough): You were lucky to be born here. Luck. In fact, percentage-wise when you look at the worldwide population, you were REALLY FUCKING LUCKY. Why does that make you not want to care about anyone else without that same luck?

GiddyOnZackHunt · 23/04/2015 11:02

So Goldy are you going to vote Lib Dem for the most investment in Mental Health?

parsnipbob · 23/04/2015 11:05

Wow. Yeah. Don't care about other human beings. That's a lovely message that I would want to pass on to my children.

If the shoe was on the other foot, if you were HIV positive and couldn't get treatment in your own country, you would think the same way would you?

It's not crazy left wing thinking, it's basic humanity.

LucasNorthsTwiglets · 23/04/2015 11:07

Why the fuck should we squander resources on someone that has just turned up here?

Howabout because that person is a human being? Are you saying the life of a person from one country isn't as important as the life of a British person?

PfftTheMagicDraco · 23/04/2015 11:10

As of 2011, the proportion of Peterborough's population who have English/Welsh/Scottish/Northern Irish/British identities is 84.4%.

Looking at the top 10 secondary schools in peterborough, only 4 of them have an higher than national average % of children who do not have English as a first language. The remaining 6 have a % in the single digits.

Looking at all of the stats, I don't see Peterborough as some sort of fictional home from home for everyone from Bucharest/Warsaw/Delhi (delete as appropriate depending on your particular bigoted views). Though I bet the local rags like to make it look like it is.

I'm not sure how any party claiming to be modern can support investment in coal.

angelos02 · 23/04/2015 11:10

Why should someone that hasn't paid into the system for years take treatment from someone that has? As this would inevitably be the case.

angelos02 · 23/04/2015 11:11

Are you saying the life of a person from one country isn't as important as the life of a British person? No. I'm saying that people that have lived in a country for decades and paid in to the system, should always get priority. As there are finite resources, there is not the money left for those that have just arrived.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 23/04/2015 11:12

How would that inevitably be the case, angelos?

parsnipbob · 23/04/2015 11:13

Also Angelos, they don't 'take treatment'. You don't get a British cancer patient wandering into hospital saying 'sorry, we gave all the drugs to a somalian'. You actually have no idea what you're talking about.

windchime · 23/04/2015 11:15

I am a nurse. I was verbally abused by three individual patients in Outpatients yesterday, who were all immigrants. Luckily they had learned enough English to thoroughly abuse me and my staff because they objected to the waiting times of the clinics and their free treatment . Until yesterday, I had no idea who I was going to vote for. I have bloody well made up my mind now, though. UKIP for me.

angelos02 · 23/04/2015 11:15

I'm sorry Saga. I must have missed the memo saying there are tons of doctors waiting to treat people at A&E, that housing stock is at an all-time high and that most classrooms have spare spaces.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 23/04/2015 11:18

Those problems aren't down to immigration, angelos. They're down to greed and bad management.

RedToothBrush · 23/04/2015 11:18

So if you were verbally abused by a man you'd vote for a woman?

Or if you were verbally abused by someone able bodied, you'd vote for a disabled person?

Stupid logic windchime.

angelos02 · 23/04/2015 11:19

Saga I'm pretty sure adding more people doesn't help.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 23/04/2015 11:22

Changing the subject slightly I am curious to know how kippers envision the immigration controls they propose panning out on the front line.
So nobody comes in without health insurance. How's that validated?
What will the queues be like if you put all the EU visitors in with non EU and non UK passengers?

ragged · 23/04/2015 11:23

Funny thing about coal investment... Coal is cheaper from other parts of the world, so investment in this (or nuclear or gas or oil for that matter) all increase our dependency on foreign sources. Why do UKIP think fossil fuels is grand to subsidise in name of energy security, but not renewables? Boggles my mind. If we go for heavy dependency on fossil fuels we'll have lower energy prices on average (over medium term) but much more volatility which will create periodic shock waves thru all sectors of economy with knock on insecurity & instability. Most the world's fossil fuels (& nuclear fuels) come from dodgy places & we'll end up at mercy of Russian oligarchs/govt, etc. so undermine our own political independence. Dependence on Russian Gas is a huge political problem in Eastern Europe. Really need a very diversified energy strategy to maximise security & stability.

That's leaving aside that UKIP are climate change deniers. It's all this kind of thing that makes me grrrr @ UKIP.

windchime · 23/04/2015 11:23

RedToothBrush

Not stupid logic at all. They need to close the borders immediately. UKIP have fantastic policies for home-grown English working women. You should read them. Or have someone explain them to you.

TheFecklessFairy · 23/04/2015 11:23

Nice to see the usual claptrap being spouted Smile

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 23/04/2015 11:24

And thus my point is proven: UKIP Voters are Anti-Immigration.

parsnipbob · 23/04/2015 11:24

For the millionth time, even if immigrants WERE causing these issues, lack of school places and a longer wait in a and e are the most minor problems in the world compared to what some of the people who come here have been through.

SourdoughBread · 23/04/2015 11:24

home-grown English working women

Grin

As opposed to foreign English working women?

angelos02 · 23/04/2015 11:25

I'm not anti-immigration. I am anti-mass immigration and of unskilled workers.

parsnipbob · 23/04/2015 11:25

Wind chime do you mean like scrapping maternity leave and making it legal to discriminate against someone on the basis of their gender?

parsnipbob · 23/04/2015 11:25

What is a home grown English woman anyway? Do you put her in the garden and water her?

GiddyOnZackHunt · 23/04/2015 11:27

Um what if you're British but not English? Or have a baby?
