to wish I could vote ukip loud and proud

Mumof4worried · 22/04/2015 19:09

I've nc for this, as I generally have to in life.

I'm voting ukip, I live in Peterborough where we have had massive immigration. The affects have been huge. Enlargement of EU distroyed dh building business overnight. The schools are close to bursting and have to do a school run to two different schools, had a 5 hour wait in a and e. Teenage son struggles to get part time farm work like I did when I was a teenager. House prices are out of control, god knows how any of mine will ever leave home.

I'm not saying all of these are 100% to do with uncontrolled immigration, but it has Made the problems so much worse.

I'm not racist, most of my friends are 2nd gen Asians or homophobic, my brother and his husband visit a lot.

I just want an oz type points immigration system. I don't care that lots are highly skilled, that is often very bad as it leads to a brain drain in other countries and my children will have to compete with the worlds most ambitious and motivated people.

I just want to be able to express these thoughts but I'm shamed into hiding them by the media.

No please, you first. Surely you care passionately about mental health having taken a stand so it would be unfair of me to barge in.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 23/04/2015 10:32

I apologise, all the bigotry sounds the same to me. Grin

Stopandlook · 23/04/2015 10:32

And the fact that so many people now show no self-control over what goes in their pie holes, which contribute to obesity related illness, diabetes being a major one, has nothing to do with the strain on the NHS?

Did I say that? My point is it is nothing to do with immigration or treating immigrants with HIV

goldylookingpane · 23/04/2015 10:34

Somebody asked a question about MH.

Invest an extra £1.5 billion into mental health and dementia services over the next five years

Obviously that may or may not happen. But all the parties are guilty of falling short on their promises.
There's no guarantees with any of them.

parsnipbob · 23/04/2015 10:35

If I am getting mixed up it's because I'm getting emotional to be honest. My Dad is an immigrant and would have been killed in his home country. He has come here, worked, had a family, used the NHS. It breaks my heart to see him and people like him used as a scapegoat for any and all problems in this country. Most of the time it's because we are so fucking pampered we have so sense of perspective. Waiting 5 hours in a and e = big deal. Having to leave your home country because your friends and family members have been tortured and killed = an actual problem.

IKnowIAmButWhatAreYou · 23/04/2015 10:35

They would stop HIV and other life saving treatments for immigrants.

Isn't than until they've been here and contributed for a set period of time?

Try jetting off to the states & scrounging some of their medicines.

I have no problems with stopping medical tourism. Even if we stay in the EU we should only provide someone with services that their own EU country would provide them.

(Tory voter in a Tory heartland)

Sometimes I think it's the anti-UKIP people go on and on about immigration more than the UKIP supporters. It's very odd.

parsnipbob · 23/04/2015 10:37

Goldy you really don't have any actual answers do you? Mykids just resort to being snide.

parsnipbob · 23/04/2015 10:37

You just resort, that should have said. Typing on phone.

MoonriseKingdom · 23/04/2015 10:43

In the early 1900s my mum's family came to England, economic migrants from Poland. They valued education and hard work. 3 generations of public sector workers later I feel my family's contribution is broadly positive.

I work with many immigrants and children of immigrants within the NHS. The NHS would collapse without them.

To generalise the people who strike out, take a massive risk leaving their own country, are the clever, the enterprising and the brave. I truly believe that immigration has and continues to benefit this country. The same tired old arguments about losing our Britishishness were being made 100 years ago. Well guess what? We are British and will continue to be so. We should be proud to be a country of opportunity where people can come and change their lives and our lives for the better.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 23/04/2015 10:43

I am classed as an immigrant, though I came for marriage rather than being forced to escape my homeland due to appalling conditions (sorry for your father, parsnip.)

The lady with mental health issues very proudly tells me to my face she is voting UKIP because she wants "the immigrants out." Instead of hating her or getting deeply offended, I put this inhibition in her opinions down to her mental health, yes.

waffilyversati1e · 23/04/2015 10:44

I live in Peterborough (like the OP) and I don't know much about national statistics but I just wanted to say that I was born in Peterborough and having grown up here we have ALWAYS had a massive migrant population and I have always found it to be a GOOD thing.

A&E waits are no shorter or longer than they ever were when I was younger and my children have never had their education damaged by having children from other countries in their classroom. I went to a secondary school with a lot of Indian and Pakistani children and again, my education did not suffer. Its maybe not the prettiest of cities but I like where I live and the diversity we have here.

goldylookingpane · 23/04/2015 10:44

have been an immigrant as well Bob. I agree with immigration. Who doesn't?
If people stopped with the hysterics, they would realize that UKIP (and the Tories)don't want to stop immigration.

But the immigration has got out of hand --partly caused by the last labour government) and needs to be managed better.
That's all they want.
Anybody that says that UKIP is anti-immigration is guilty of scaremongering. imo

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 23/04/2015 10:46

UKIP VOTERS are anti-immigration. That's a fact.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 23/04/2015 10:48

1.5billion into mental health and dementia services over 5 years. Dementia services will be allocated nearly half of that which seems painfully low. Leaving what about 800 million over 5 years? All that whilst they're talking about privatising the NHS.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 23/04/2015 10:50

Sorry, SOME UKIP voters, I should have said. Most, even. Wink

goldylookingpane · 23/04/2015 10:52

UKIP VOTERS are anti-immigration. That's a fact.

UKIP are not anti-immigration. They think that the systems in place at the moment aren't working properly and need to be better-managed.
There's a difference.

angelos02 · 23/04/2015 10:53

They would stop HIV and other life saving treatments for immigrants.

And?

Cakesbydelia · 23/04/2015 10:54

We've just received our first Ukip flyer. It is illiterate.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 23/04/2015 10:57

No goldy that's UKIP's official stance on immigration, that is not the opinion of UKIP VOTERS.

UKIP and UKIP Voters are different entities, see.

parsnipbob · 23/04/2015 10:57

Angelos so you don't think that's disgusting, as a human being?

Goes back to what I said before, right wing politics are fucking selfish.

goldylookingpane · 23/04/2015 10:59

They would stop HIV and other life saving treatments for immigrants

more propaganda

ragged · 23/04/2015 11:00

HIV treatment is funded because otherwise those people would be legally in UK and freely passing their disease on, might not even know they are + if no point in coming forward for testing. The original sufferers & their contacts would all end up costing NHS a lot more money in long run. It's a damage limitation strategy.

IKnowIAmButWhatAreYou · 23/04/2015 11:01

Angelos so you don't think that's disgusting, as a human being?

Goes back to what I said before, right wing politics are fucking selfish.

Yes, because I'm not responsible for the rest of the fucking world! This is typical Left Wing lunacy.

Why the fuck should we squander resources on someone that has just turned up here, rather than someone who is from here.

Once we've sorted out all our problems, then it's time to think about other people.

Spamminit · 23/04/2015 11:01

Vote UKIP loud and proud OP.

You don't have to justify yourself here. We are lucky enough to have a vote in this country so choose who you wish to support and vote.
