to wish I could vote ukip loud and proud

Mumof4worried · 22/04/2015 19:09

I've nc for this, as I generally have to in life.

I'm voting ukip, I live in Peterborough where we have had massive immigration. The affects have been huge. Enlargement of EU distroyed dh building business overnight. The schools are close to bursting and have to do a school run to two different schools, had a 5 hour wait in a and e. Teenage son struggles to get part time farm work like I did when I was a teenager. House prices are out of control, god knows how any of mine will ever leave home.

I'm not saying all of these are 100% to do with uncontrolled immigration, but it has Made the problems so much worse.

I'm not racist, most of my friends are 2nd gen Asians or homophobic, my brother and his husband visit a lot.

I just want an oz type points immigration system. I don't care that lots are highly skilled, that is often very bad as it leads to a brain drain in other countries and my children will have to compete with the worlds most ambitious and motivated people.

I just want to be able to express these thoughts but I'm shamed into hiding them by the media.

Voting UKIP is an embarrassment where I live too. I've never heard anyone in real life say they would consider voting for them. Sadly, I live in a Tory safeseat, so it's a pretty conservative area, but not one person has a UKIP sign up or has mentioned voting for them. It's just not done is it?

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 23/04/2015 09:10

When did I say I was voting labour?

My, you are defensive/aggressive.

I'm not making fun of anyone, just stating a fact. She has mental health issues. She is voting UKIP. It's the truth.

I'm sure many others with mental health issues are voting for other parties, too. I didn't say they weren't.

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 23/04/2015 09:13

chiefbrody as I said above:

Northern Ireland generally has net emigration ie fewer people in the country at the end of the year than the start.

Yet it has the longest A&E waiting times in the UK.
And a huge waiting list for social housing.

Any of you UKIPpers want to explain that one to me?

Threesoundslikealot · 23/04/2015 09:17

goldy you can't agree in one post that many non-UKIP voters are right wing and will be voting for centre/right wing parties and then in the next accuse someone of being a Labour voter because they are opposed to UKIP. Some of the most vehement anti-UKIP people are Conservatives; there are plenty of Tories who are very keen to remain in the EU, and disagree with UKIP on various issues. It's not the left v UKIP in this country.

A poll was published yesterday of UKIP's top ten target seats, ie the seats with the biggest UKIP support that they would have hoped to have won. UKIP averages at third in the polls, almost 20 points below the Conservatives who lead. This is not Labour v UKIP.

A similar poll for either Labour or Tory would show those parties top.

parsnipbob · 23/04/2015 09:17

Don't bother boulevard, they won't ever come up with a decent factually based argument, because they can't. Nigel Farage can't either. Yesterday on bbc breakfast he was presented with stats that contradicted his point on so called 'health tourism' and he just said 'I don't accept those figures'.

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 23/04/2015 09:19

Also, you can't just step off a plane and get free NHS treatment (as surely a moment's thought would tell you).

You have to be permanently (and legally) resident in the UK.

ragged · 23/04/2015 09:20

I am an immigrant. I loathe UKIP (loathed them long before I started working for the EU), and I don't mind what OP posted and I hate to see the personal attacks, not MN at its finest. It's interesting that OP also mentioned Greens, some analyst was pointing out that UKIP & Greens were only parties offering some particular elements (very left wing social support stuff).

catgirl1976 · 23/04/2015 09:21

My local MP (Tory) canvassed me at home the other day. He is vehemently anti-UKIP and said their policies were abhorrent and picked on the most vulnerable in society. I did point out that was a bit rich coming from aTory, but still - goes to show it's not the just "Fascist Socialists" or whatever phrase was used upthread that are against them.

Just, you know, everyone with a bit of common sense, left, right or centre.

angelos02 · 23/04/2015 09:21

YANBU OP. I'd love to know what would happen if we pulled out of the EU in terms of who will get booted out of the country?

Capricorn76 · 23/04/2015 09:23

I almost wish that voting wasn't anonymous so that those who vote for parties with ridiculous policies are identified and made to be the first victims of their policies. E.g UKIP wish to end Human Rights Act, discriminate against the disabled, reduce or end all benefits, mat pay and leave, equality laws inc sex, pensions, introduce US style 'fire at will' etc.

Those people who voted for them just because they fear immigrants should feel the full weight of all of their policies first but something tells me that if Farage wins his seat in Kent, his supporters will not be offering up their pensions and would kick off if they had to pay for more NHS services.

LikeIcan · 23/04/2015 09:28

Why should I know the ins & outs of the housing/ NHS problems in Northern Ireland? Hmm I live in Surrey.
I suggest you change your politicians though, because from what you say I doubt they could arrange a piss up in a brewery.

LikeIcan · 23/04/2015 09:31

catgirl - he would say that wouldn't it - seeing as the Tories are set to lose 1000's of votes to UKIP.

catgirl1976 · 23/04/2015 09:34

Angel if we left the EU and "booted out" all the immigrants the NHS would collapse. The banking and financial sector would collapse with catastophic job losses. The hospitality and food processing sectors would collapse.

But if you think that's a good thing then.....

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 23/04/2015 09:34

ragged this is an interesting blog-post sort of explaining further what you've said about Greens and UKIP.

anotherangryvoice.blogspot.co.uk/2014/03/73-ukip-voters-green-party.html

keepitsimple0 · 23/04/2015 09:34

what would the logic be behind being anti-EU and pro-immigration?

the EU is rather anti democratic. it's structure is opaque, and it's power ever changing.

immigrants are fine though.

catgirl1976 · 23/04/2015 09:35

UKIP are no threat to the Tories LikeICan. They will be lucky to get a single seat.

He didn't describe any of the other parties as "abhorrent".

LikeIcan · 23/04/2015 09:40

UKIP are Tories after a few drinks catgirl - we've lost loads of support to them ( and politicians )

Tory voter here btw.

keepitsimple0 · 23/04/2015 09:41

I find it interesting, because nobody usually bothers to ask the immigrants who have managed to get in what they think!

here I am!

I don't mind other immigrants at all. I mind the snails pace at which housing gets built to keep up.

catgirl1976 · 23/04/2015 09:42

They're as much a threat to labour as to the conservatives. And they, thankfully, will not get more than a seat or two. Hopefully none.

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 23/04/2015 09:44

Did we get an answer as to what inttinsic values of Britishness we will lose if Teh Immigrantz continue to flock here? Coming to our country, joining our queues, drinking our tea, going on our All Inclusive holidays to Majorca, Grr?!

Stopandlook · 23/04/2015 09:47

My immigrant husband sweats blood working days and nights patching up British alcoholics who wind up admitted to hospital with gastric breeds.
He would even patch up a UKIP voter.

He does this because he loves me, his job and his family.

He can't vote.

IKnowIAmButWhatAreYou · 23/04/2015 09:51

Lots of posters and signs for UKIP around here (Cambs), and there were when I was in the South West at the weekend.

As people learn to ignore all the hysterical DM type reporting and comments they seem to feel more able to say they'd vote UKIP.

It honestly doesn't bother me which way people choose to cast their vote, I'd probably prefer someone to vote UKIP than Labour TBH as I think Labour are the absolute worst thing that could happen to this country.

We'll see what the truth is once the ballots have been counted next month, until then it's all guesswork & not worth losing any sleep over.

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 23/04/2015 09:52

LikeIcan, I'm just trying to open people's minds to the possibility that NHS/housing problems can be due to something other than immigration.

If area of high immigration = > crap A&E
Area of low immigration => crap A&E
Area of net emigration => crappest A&E

then maybe... just maybe, there might be no connection with immigration?

(I realise tone doesn't come across well when posting, but I am loving your indignance about being expected to know anything about the rest of the UK when you live in Surrey, goddammit!)

catgirl1976 · 23/04/2015 09:52

We did not Moomin

I'm going to venture that it's:

Being White
Speaking English
Being a Christian, or at the very least not being a Muslim, Hindu, Sikh or any other funny, forrin religion
Eating proper British food like, erm, fry ups?
Reading the Daily Mail

There may be more, but I'm pretty sure that's what's being referred to.

Stopandlook · 23/04/2015 09:57

The NHS capacity problems are due to smoking (yup Farage, but you don't like facts do you) and heavy drinking.

Hard, but true.
