My sister met the late Mo Mowlam and said she was unbelievably lovely.

My great aunt knew Agatha Christie. She was apparently a really nice woman and very shy.

measles64 · 06/05/2015 22:18

My Mother knew Agatha Christie I think she lived in a gloomy house on the outskirts of Wallingford. Said she was a lovely lady.

sarascompact · 06/05/2015 22:42

Frank Lampard - very friendly, good natured, laid back
Edwina Currie - funny, polite, gracious
Tessa Jowell - unpleasant yes woman
Stirling Moss - lovely, really friendly
John Terry - very friendly, patient, hospitable, big hearted
John Major - rather reserved, charming, too nice to be a politician!
Robin Cook - passionate, interested, committed and polite
Diana, Princess of Wales (pre marriage) polite, shy, but quick to point out the "Hon" in her name.
Baroness Jay - charming, gracious, hospitable
Paul Gascoigne (circa 1990) - nuts, as you'd expect.
Dennis Waterman - a flirt, a charmer and funny too

I've done most of my own ones but I have ones told me by actor friends... Someone I used to know, a cockney actor so up for all the same roles as him in the 1980s, told me he once went to an audition and Ross Kemp was there, "Talking to himself" apparently (he was probably just learning his lines but my informant was freaked out by it and maybe jealous as Ross probably got the jobs he was up for)!

He told me something about Anthony Hopkins being dragged off a certain film set and bundled into a car to get him off the set, shrieking the most obscene invective you can imagine at the director.

He also said Todd Carty was an egocentric tit but to be fair, he only knew him when they were both young and I suspect that level of fame so early would go to many people's heads. (Unless they're Anthony Head).

He also said he was on set in something with Marianne Faithful and she refused to come out of her trailer much, and they were all briefed not to mention a certain sort of confectionary around her... ;o)

He took me to a party and I was talkiing most of the night to a familiar looking man, I couldn't qutie place. He seemed to enjoy talking with me - in retrospect, probably because it was obvious I had no idea who he was. I still don't know his name as I never watched it, but he was one of the main actors for years in 'The Bill'. He didn't mention 'work' once.

Another actor friend told me that Brian Blessed was lovely - as you'd imagine him. But when he was on set as a glorified extra in a film with Sean Connery they were all told, before he came on set, not to do impersonations or say "Miss Moneypenny"... Apparently he is very up himself.

measles64 · 07/05/2015 18:33

Had forgotten the Scotsman. He is difficult, having worked on a film many moons ago he was short tempered about the weather conditions. Like we could do anything about that!!

Seeingthebeautyineveryminute · 07/05/2015 18:59

Ant and Dec, in their personal time, total darlings (especially Dec who chatted for ages)

TheFnozwhowasmirage · 07/05/2015 19:10

Dh has met Brian Blessed a few times, he is exactly like he is on TV,very loud. Once, when dh was having lunch with him, he scandalised the old ladies at the next table by telling a story about climbing Mt Everest and how his penis swelled up to x times its normal size. I am very jealous as I love BB and never get to meet anyone exciting.
I can confirm that Rosemary Conley is very tiny, does not look her age and does a lot of charity work that no one knows about. She and her husband are lovely.

andrewjones62 · 23/10/2016 21:51

When I was working as a security guard...I had the 'Do You Know Who I Am' speech from Liz Hurley. Arrogant, Rude Woman. Gary Barlow...I found to be nasty and only spoke to you if you were famous.

Olly Murs....takes himself way too seriously behind the scenes. Don't be fooled by his public image. He treats his helpers like trash.
George Cloony really Really Nice, Caroline Aherne...Lovely.....Peter Hook....Horrid!

mygorgeousmilo · 23/10/2016 22:17

Dermot O'Leary was really friendly and polite, very cool. I feel like I've met loads - now let me think....

DarlingCoffee · 24/10/2016 15:01

Nice ones I've met:
Toby Anstis - really friendly
Sir Richard Attenborough - very sweet
George Clooney - down to earth and very friendly
Chris Evans - quieter than I expected but a really nice bloke, met him down the pub

Ubertasha2 · 24/10/2016 22:00

Dustin Hoffman: friendly, asked the name of all on set. Lovely.
Emma Thompson: complete opposite, arrogant.
Chris Evans and Billie Piper: completely dishevelled and unwashed but very pleasant, sweet, friendly couple (a while back now, clearly!)
David (can't remember his surname- played the Jewish servant to the family in The Boy in Striped Pyjamas): total sweetie and consumate professional on set.
Alicia Eyo (Bad Girls, Emmerdale et al): warm, sweet, soft-spoken.
Lesley Joseph: opposite to above!!

satine · 24/10/2016 22:18

I was lucky enough to stay at the same hotel recently as Howard from Take That. And I'm happy to report that he was really nice and was up and in the pool each morning with his little son despite having been up probably all night DJing!! I'm not going to lie, as the week went on he was visibly ageing but still, what an all round nice guy.
And I have also met Dom from Dick and Dom and again, what a genuinely lovely man he is.

satine · 24/10/2016 22:28

A friend of mine was injured in Iraq and casevaced back to Selly Oak hospital, really bad spinal injury. I saw him there a day or two later, and wondered why the only personal possession he seemed to have was a signed pic of Ozzy Osborne pinned to a little notice board by his bed. Strange, I thought, but he was so out of it on morphine that I couldn't ask him. It was only much later that i remembered and quizzed him and he said that it had been the strangest thing - he was drifting in and out of consciousness and had woken to find Ozzy sitting next to his bed. Assuming that it was a hallucination, he had drifted off again but later found that Ozzy, when he is back at home near Birmingham, often goes in to the military wards at Selly Oak to see the injured soldiers. He will just sit and chat with them. He always asks if it's ok to come in, he never has anyone with him and no-one really knows about it. My friend said that later, when he was compos mentis enough to chat with Ozz on a later visit, that he was just as funny and self-deprecating as you might think.
Isn't that nice?

Cellardoor23 · 24/10/2016 22:33

Todd Carty- Really lovely.

Stephen Graham - Nice enough, a bit bonkers.

My mum got chatted up by the drummer from the sex pistols once. She politely turned down his offer for a date.

Cellardoor23 · 24/10/2016 22:34

My mum met quite a few people when she worked in a pub in London. Pretty jealous!

Bellini12 · 24/10/2016 22:52

I've met Anthony Head too! It was after a west end show, he had a bit of time to kill before the next performance and offered to take us all for a milkshake (we were about 16 - nothing funny in it, he was utterly charming and being a gent).
Jerome Flynn chatted my mate up in a bar in London (years ago).
Met the actor Christopher Eccleston in a bar (I got a bit star struck). He was very cool.

Enidblyton1 · 24/10/2016 23:11

Sheridan Smith was completely delightful, sweet and chatty. Love her!

ladymariner · 24/10/2016 23:52

Ds was 14 and at his first concert, Motörhead, got right to the very front.....security guards nightmare. Lemmy made sure he and his mates were ok, and gave each of them a guitar pick. Ds's absolute hero, he sobbed when Lemmy died Sad

AuntJane · 25/10/2016 00:56

I may be meeting Nicole Scherzinger tomorrow. If I do, I'll report back.

DarklyDreamingDexter · 25/10/2016 01:19

I've met quite a few celebs over the years, mostly pleasant, friendly and down to earth, but not worth singling out for special praise or criticism.

The exceptions were - Ian Botham (met twice) who was a complete and utter arse and Geoffrey Archer (also met twice) who's an even bigger arse, if that's even possible.

The late Tony Benn MP was an unexpected delight. I was terrified of speaking to him! ( I was quite young and met him in the course of my work) He had this lefty, firebrand reputation in parliament, but he couldn't have been kinder to me. Lovely man.

raspberrysuicide · 25/10/2016 01:37

I haven't met many celebs but they have all been lovely
Peter Andre - really down to earth and helped with the set up and carried things and just generally mucked in. It was a charity event on TV and he was even nice and helpful before and after the camera crew were there.
Rick Parfit - very nice and chatty. Knows a lot about wine and asked after me when I had a car accident.
Danny Mac - very very good looking in real life and a lovely friendly man. I have a picture of him with both my girls.
Ben Elton - very shy and unassuming. Nothing like his on stage persona at all. I kissed him on the cheek and left a lipstick mark.
Carl Hester - brilliant sense of humour and very down to earth.

Bogeyface · 25/10/2016 02:04

Ime....

John Pertwee was wonderful
Letitia Dean was (in 1988) a stroppy "Do You Know Who I Am?!" pita who insisted that despite being 2 hours late, everyone would be delighted to see her. She was boo'd by the very sparse crowd still in attendance and it was fucking hilarious.
Keith Chegwin was friendly and professional, as was every member of the TISWAS team. 20 years later, Chris Tarrant was a total arsehole.
Quentin Tarrantino attempted a DYKWIA?! at a film festival and took the "Oi, there's a fucking queue!" in good humour. He also laughed off being called a queue jumping twat, by H, very well :o

Bogeyface · 25/10/2016 02:05

Oh and Rob Newman is stonkingly good looking, extremely lovely and very shy! Refuses to be a part of selfies, dont blame him.

MrsOllyMurs · 25/10/2016 03:13

Lalalala - sticks fingers in ears - refuses to believe anything bad about Olly Grin Actually I have met him, and he was lovely, but it was a competition prize. Nevertheless, DD went mega shy and he was so good with her...... I wasn't a big fan til then, but he won me over Blush

MrsOllyMurs · 25/10/2016 03:23

Renee Zellwegger, some years ago now, absolutely charming, tiny, pretty, lovely.
I was a bit intimidated by Liam Gallagher, but actually he was quite funny.
Charlie Puth was so sweet, so unassuming....... Made me like his music even more.
Mick Jagger was a bit meh.
Also not overly keen on Pierce Brosnan.
Michael Buble is just how you'd imagine, and looks cute snuggled up under a duvet Wink
Many more, but think most have already been mentioned.
Oh, and someone way up thread mentioned Martin and Gary Kemp - so pleased to hear that they're lovely. No childhood dreams shattered there! Apparently Tony Hadley is really nice too (shame they can't get on with each other!)
