It just keeps getting worse and worse what comes out of her mouth.

daffsandtulips so 26,000 illegal immigrants have arroved in the Uk since January and 11,000 in the week leading up to 17 April ?? As thats how many have arrived off Lampedusa which is a very small island .

OrlandoWoolf · 21/04/2015 19:39

impip

Calling people cockroaches - "othering" them. Used during the Rwanda conflict and also by the Nazis.

I wonder if she knows her history. If not, she has been reminded of it now.

TwoOddSocks · 21/04/2015 19:40

No other country has the NHS

What do you actually mean? Every country in Europe has a nationalised health system. I'd take Germany's Techniker Krankenkasse over the NHS (although I'm very grateful for the NHS) any day, they also have a great benefit system and much better working conditions.

daffsandtulips · 21/04/2015 19:41

Maybe because they have now been made to?

(waits for everyone to froth)

In saying that, as I have stated, in their shoes my goal would be England. That is all I said. My heart goes out to these people.

scatteroflight · 21/04/2015 19:41

Why don't we just let the whole of Africa and the Middle East come and live in Europe and be done with it?

What is the point of all this hand wringing and worrying and endless debates about rights and wrongs. This is death by a thousand cuts. They would ALL have a better life in Europe and who are we to deny it? Let's just get it over with. Man the boats and planes and start transporting them all now.

cleanmyhouse · 21/04/2015 19:41

OP are you actually Katie Hopkins trolling MN for a reaction?

SlaggyIsland · 21/04/2015 19:41

Scandinavia also has great national healthcare.
Seriously daffs I think you need to educate yourself.

daffsandtulips · 21/04/2015 19:42

Well slaggy, let's not get personal here.

SlaggyIsland · 21/04/2015 19:43

OP read this article by Frankie Boyle, to give yourself a bit of much-needed understanding and context to the issue.
And please for the love of god stop saying England when you mean the UK. There are the same benefits and NHS in the non-English nations as well you know.

Miltonmaid · 21/04/2015 19:43

Daffs, do you know anything about the health or benefits systems in other European countries? They are not all aiming for England, that's a ridiculous claim.

SlaggyIsland · 21/04/2015 19:44

daffs I'm not getting personal I'm stating a fact. You sound uneducated on the issue.

You don't come across as very well informed daffs. People quoting actual factual information don't seem to be altering your weird viewpoint either which is strange. wilfully ignorant

OrlandoWoolf · 21/04/2015 19:46

Why don't we just let the whole of Africa and the Middle East come and live in Europe and be done with it

Or why don't we help these parts of the world develop? Maybe we could not sell arms to them, help them with peace keeping, not exploit their resources etc?

LagerthaEarlIngstad · 21/04/2015 19:48

Maybe we could go back in time and not have fucked them all over in the first place?

daffsandtulips · 21/04/2015 19:52

Why do I have to be "well informed" where are "your" sources of information coming from? Are they fact or are they propaganda? So don't tell me im ignorant thank you very much. That is rude and a personal attack.

I'm not at all pretentious in my views are you?

scatteroflight · 21/04/2015 19:55

Orlando & Lager - your comments seem to imply that this is our rightful punishment for sins of the past?

This is oft wheeled out in defence of mass migration. It's our fault that their countries are shit so we have to suck it up. Let's say this is true. Why don't we just let them all in?

Instead of letting them die in the Med let's go and get them. Free EU passports for everyone in Africa and the Middle East. After all they deserve a better life, we have sinned and our countries can't be "ours" any more.

They are coming whatever we do, so why not make it easy and roll out the welcome mat?

OrlandoWoolf · 21/04/2015 19:56

I suspect it's propaganda. Images and media reports of migrants feeds the beliefs of people.

The reality is most refugees and asylum seekers aren't heading for the UK.

OrlandoWoolf · 21/04/2015 19:58

scatter

I'm not saying we need mass migration as it's a punishment. I'm saying that we need to address the issues of why people are fleeing.

Saying fuck you, we are not going to let you in and you can stay in your own war torn country is not a moral thing to do.

We need to take responsibility for other people on this planet. Right now,we turn a blind eye.

scatteroflight · 21/04/2015 19:59

Additionally we all know that migrants are net contributors, they are the backbone of this nation, without them the NHS would collapse, and they enrich our culture in unquantifiable ways.

So why on earth are we delaying in getting more of them here? We should be sending out the boats to collect them from North Africa not trying to dissuade them.

daffsandtulips · 21/04/2015 19:59

Says who? Orlando. Media reports, ok then it must be true.

OrlandoWoolf · 21/04/2015 20:00

scatter

What would your solution be?

OrlandoWoolf · 21/04/2015 20:02

daffs

Says who? Statistics from the UNHCR?

With an estimated 109,600 asylum claims, the Germany was, for the first time since 1999, the largest recipient of new individual applications, followed by the USA (84,400), South Africa (70,000), France (60,200), and Sweden (54,300).

OrlandoWoolf · 21/04/2015 20:03

And the UK?

www.unhcr.org.uk/about-us/the-uk-and-asylum.html

At the end of 2013, the population of refugees, pending asylum cases and stateless persons made up just 0.23% of the population. That’s 126,055 refugees, 23,070 pending asylum cases and 205 stateless persons.

The vast majority of refugees stay in their region of displacement, so that 86% of the world’s refugees are hosted by developing countries. Pakistan hosts the highest number of refugees at 1.6million.
