Very trivial discussion (so I know I am being unreasonable already Grin ), but I am reading a thread about nasty celebs from 2008 (google brought me there) and really enjoying the gossip... AIBU to ask who the nicest and vilest celebs are who you have met in real life?

Running... Great story about Bono. Given his preciousness about using the main door I would like to have seen the bouncers sling him out of the fire escape into the dustbinsSmile .

TiredButFine · 19/04/2015 18:45

Steve Coogan- literally all kinds of vile. I'm talking 90's

FluffyTheEvilOne · 19/04/2015 18:45

I met Anthony Head on a train. He was lovely and chatty, and travelled second class with the 'normals' despite already being pretty famous from being in Buffy.
Uri Gellar seemed nice enough too, although a little away with the fairies. His minder was a bit of an arse, though!
A friend used to frequent the same bar as Paul McGann, and he was apparently a bit of a ladies' man, to put it nicely. This was when he was married, too.

I'm in mourning over Michael Palin and Dawn French being twats Sad

EthelDurant123 · 19/04/2015 18:46

I work on the tube so have met a few. Edwina Currie, Paul McGann, Cheryl Baker, and even Ken Livingstone have all been very pleasant. Just as True Blood was on the rise a few years back I met its star Stephen Moyer who was also a very courteous fella.

A colleague once came over all peculiar when Joanna Lumley came through. A total darling, by her account.

HarpyFishwifeTwat · 19/04/2015 18:46

Second Alesha Dixon, met her when volunteering, she was a sweetie to all the kids in hospital and lovely to the volunteers.

CatthiefKeith · 19/04/2015 18:46

Sir Terry Pratchett was lovely to me more than once at book signings.

Michael Caine was also very lovely to be when I dropped peas in his lap.Blush

Dame Judi Dench and her late husband were especially lovely when I asked her if she was a friend of my mums. She did look very familiar! Grin

Dean Gaffney and Daniella Westbrook are both rude.

BackCrackandNappySack · 19/04/2015 18:46

Danny Dyer has to be a total twat. He just has to be.

I feel a bit sorry for celebs sometimes when people label them as horrible based on one experience, usually involving someone bothering them for photos and autographs when they are just trying to go about their day unnoticed. It must get SO tedious. I have the utmost admiration for anyone who can keep up the smiles and the patience and the friendly demeanour - they must get so tired of it. There are a lot of idiots out there who do not understand about personal boundaries.

I would never go up and speak to a celebrity unless I had good cause to be introduced to them.

ahbollocks · 19/04/2015 18:47

Oooh ive got a few
Ricky wilson - rude grumpy twat
Alan davies - rude
Whats his name from gavin and stacey - total luvvie
Hairy bikers - total gems
Katie price - super sweet and friendly
Ray winston was a darling and bought me a dress
Alex ferguson and his wife were so kind
Jonathan davies was a wee bit pervy but nice
prince Charles very nice and talked to me about baked beans

Humansatnav · 19/04/2015 18:48

My cousin once asked Bono to take his children and leave cousins cafe after his kids ran round screaming . Bono not amused. Other customers relieved Grin

I love these threads but they're a guilty pleasure. If you only meet someone for a minute or two you really can't judge what they're like. They might have been ill or just had bad news or been going through a very bad patch just then.

On the other hand, many years ago (nearly 30, gulp!) I did Eric Stewart's VAT return in his house and he and his wife were lovely, very down to earth and hospitable. He had been the lead singer in 10CC, a great favourite of mine from the 70s, so I was very chuffed to meet him. I spent a couple of hours in their company so hope it wasn't a flash in the pan!

MamaLazarou · 19/04/2015 18:49

I second Cilla Black. My friend works for BA and says the cabin crew are not allowed to address her directly, they have to talk to one of her entourage.

But my friend says the rudest, snobbiest celeb of all is Shirley Bassey.

londonrach · 19/04/2015 18:49

Tbh it was his manner. He seemed to think he was very important and was rude to alot of people who had been waiting a long time. Guy behind me told me he had history of that. Maybe he didnt like meeting fans. Still why do it. It took dh and i the walk back to waterloo to calm down. Maybe we got him on a bad day but i was always taught to treat anyone i meet as i would like to be treated. My dm the next day to me asking why he could be so nasty said maybe it was years of python. Still that one evening he made this mntter cry (he didnt see as i hid them) and took my dh hero worship away from him forever. Dh had admired him since a little boy. I took the books to oxfam a few days later and we turn over the tv if he appears.

ghostyslovesheep · 19/04/2015 18:50

David Tenant - Lovely really lovely

ditto Billy Brag and The Housemartins

FOAF worked on BBC Breakfast - said Nicole Shirty was the most obnoxious person ever - talked to 'staff' through a third party as 'would you like coffee?' ... Third party would answer 'Nicole does not drink coffeeshe will have bottled water' while she refused to even make eye contact

apparently Bill and Suzanne where lovely though

Friend worked with Jimmy Nail - said he was germ phobic but absolutely lovely

also Radiohead - very nice

Koalafications · 19/04/2015 18:50

Dame Judi Dench and her late husband were especially lovely when I asked her if she was a friend of my mums. She did look very familiar! Grin

CatthiefKeith · 19/04/2015 18:50

BackCrack. You are so right. I used to work in a restaurant where Frank Bruno would regularly eat with his family. His rule was always let me eat with my kids in peace and I will sign/do photos afterwards, but you wouldn't believe how many people would try to interrupt his meal 'because I'm going soon' Hmm

SistersofPercy · 19/04/2015 18:50

I've had a surreal day. I've met Pritchard and Dainton who were ace if not a little X Rated, Trev and Simon (my kids had no idea who they were) who were also brilliant. I've had a long chat with Chris Barrie and Danny John Jules who were so lovely and Frank Longbottom from Harry Potter tried to Jedi mind trick me....

Can't think of anyone nasty off the top of my head.

Koalafications · 19/04/2015 18:52

prince Charles very nice and talked to me about baked beans

I need to know more.

Andrewofgg · 19/04/2015 18:53

George Brown was as heavy a drinker as the rumours suggested and bloody rude into the bargain.

Custardcream14 · 19/04/2015 18:55

Delis Smith: nightmare.

rebelfor · 19/04/2015 18:56

David Beckham, absolutely lovely, taller than I imagined, but very nice.

Chas & Dave, a little 'gruff' but friendly.

My friend has also encountered Dawn French and said she's nothing like her friendly persona.

Welshmaenad · 19/04/2015 18:56

Ruth jones was gorgeous when I met her. Really funny and infinite patience.

James Marsters (Spike from Buffy) is also an absolute sweetheart.

Charlotte Church is so monumentally up her own arse she needs an oxygen mask.

BishopBrennansArse · 19/04/2015 18:56

People who were just lovely - Bill Treacher, Alvin Stardust, Julie Walters, John Sargeant

Up themselves - Jodie Kidd, Peter Andre, Joe Pasquale

LaChatte · 19/04/2015 18:57

Bono wanted us to move tables in a bar as we were too close to him Hmm he basically wanted the whole place to himself, which didn't go down well with anyone. He seemed genuinely surprised that we weren't prepared to bend over backwards for him. He eventually decided to leave and as he crossed the room he was sort of waving to everyone and blessing them, despite no one showing the blindest bit of notice. I wish I'd filmed it now.

Justinefrischmann · 19/04/2015 18:58

Judi Dench: lovely and ever so gracious.
Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall: rude arrogant arsehole.
Roger Black: very pleasant.

Andrewofgg · 19/04/2015 18:58

Charlotte Church is so monumentally up her own arse she needs an oxygen mask.

Love it. I will steal that expression!
