Very trivial discussion (so I know I am being unreasonable already Grin ), but I am reading a thread about nasty celebs from 2008 (google brought me there) and really enjoying the gossip... AIBU to ask who the nicest and vilest celebs are who you have met in real life?

OP posts:
ThinkIveBeenHacked · 20/04/2015 23:08

Have met Ross Noble a few times. Jolly and down to earth - so much so we made him cover the Prada badge on his coat before we got a picture taken with him asit seemed out of place.

Someone please tell me Olivia Coleman and Stephen Merchant are as wonderful as I imagine?

MistressMerryWeather · 20/04/2015 23:11

Haven't read the whole thread but had to comment on was like Tatooine when they were both about.

Bloody brilliant. :o

JoffreyBaratheon · 20/04/2015 23:12

Another one I forgot. My son met Bear Grylls at a scout thing. (He lives nearby apparently). I didn't go but those who did said he was really nice and friendly.

Summerisle1 · 20/04/2015 23:13

Princess Margaret was widely agreed to be a mannerless cow.

Princess Margaret was indeed absolutely vile. My mother once had an argument with her which ended with the words "You might be Royalty but that's absolutely no excuse for being so bloody rude".

The rudest celeb I ever met was Rowan Atkinson. Back then I was involved in motor racing and he was in the same championship as us. He never moved from the more exalted pit and paddock areas where most people he encountered were "on the inside" so to speak. So he was hardly pestered by the lumpen hordes. For all that, he was routinely unpleasant to most people who had the misfortune to cross his path.

I was next to him when he was so unpleasant to a small boy that the child burst into tears. All he'd asked was whether RA could autograph his paddock pass. I was with ds2, then aged 10, and RA said to him, grumpily, "Oh, I suppose you'll want an autograph as well will you?" to which ds2 (to my absolute delight) replied "No thanks. I don't collect rude people's autographs".

It does seem to be a family characteristic this arguing with rude celebs though!

I worked with someone who (years ago) went out clubbing and ended up in the early hours having a wee in an alley near a nightclub.
He realised he was next to Marlon Dingle who was also having a wee. My friend stuttered M..M..Marlon?, realised he was staring at him so lowered his gaze until Marlon said "Er, are you looking at my cock?" Friend was mortified at being starstruck.

Loving this thread
Piers Morgan …….unbelievably …humble, witty, down to earth ,self deprecating ,warm, kind ……..unexpected .
Hugh Dennis same as above lovely but more expected .
Boris Johnson Fxxxing funny

Bono …a twat
Stella McCartney Very down to earth , not up her arse at all
And ooooh nearly forgot this gem …a family friend is in the army and the tradition at Sandhurst where Prince William trained to be an officer was that you had to attend the Christmas lunch of the Officer in charge .Anyway the wife of my family friend who had just had a baby and was not that great a cook nearly died when she heard that Prince William ( a good few years ago ) was going to come for Christmas lunch .Apparently she had a night mare ...but Prince William helped chop vegetables ,lay table ,wash up and hold the baby ... and was very appreciative of all the effort .An absolute gentleman .

dougierose · 20/04/2015 23:38

Christine Hamilton once had to fish my poo out of the bath.

dougierose · 20/04/2015 23:39

I'm in her autobiography, but she didn't include that bit. I was only 2.

dougierose · 20/04/2015 23:41

DH once met Ed Milliband at a work do. They were in mid conversation, then someone more important walked through the door and Ed waltzed off mid sentence without saying good bye. Nor even finishing his sentence. The local MP who had introduced DH to Ed at least had the grace to look embarrassed.

Spotifymuse · 21/04/2015 00:09

Diana, Princess of Wales. Stunningly beautiful, softly spoken, gentle, gorgeous. It was after the divorce and she was on her own, no entourage and completely low key.

Anthea Turner. Horrible, snotty, arrogant, rude .

EmeraldThief · 21/04/2015 00:24

I saw Princess Margaret at a Girl Guides jamboree when I was eight. I seem to recall she landed in a helicopter, wandered around for a bit and left. When the helicopter took off you could see her waving a white hanky at us through the window. She also had the most horrific varicose veins I've ever seen, I went home and told my mum she had horrible legs...

emotionsecho · 21/04/2015 00:59

My MIL crossed paths with the Queen Mother and said she was utterly horrible, MIL used to snort with derision whenever the media crowed about how wonderful QM was during the war, visiting the East End, etc. Maybe that's where Princess Margaret got her attitude from.

SiobhanSharpe · 21/04/2015 01:22

Not me, but DH (ex teacher , Irish background,) met Westlife when they recorded a few songs with the choir of the school where he taught, said they were lovely Irish lads, very natural and chatty. he got on with them like a house on fire. They were really nice to the kids too. Also, a few years ago he taught a very famous indeed young singer and had no idea until recently that the guy had become mega-succesful. He was amazed as he thought the lad was a total tosser, drama queen and general waste of space. Very disruptive in the low ability class unless he was the absolute centre of attention and made it difficult for other kids who actually wanted to learn.

CheerfulYank · 21/04/2015 03:33

Interesting Siobhan!

I'm also laughing at "thick as shit and got a nosebleed all over my Take That pencil case." :o

I can't give names because it would breach patient confidentiality but I have to say most celebs are nice even when they are in hospital, which is the one time I think you can be an absolute arse.

But one fairly minor celebrity was asked by a Dr whether they had symptoms while presenting, a perfectly legitimate question that was met with, "I'm here to talk about my health not television".

No dear, the Dr is trying to get a medical history from you.

Sansarya · 21/04/2015 06:47

Summerisle, do tell us more about your mum's tiff with Princess Margaret! From what I've heard, the Queen is not at all grand but Margaret was an absolute cow who expected everyone to bow down to her because she was royalty.

Alisvolatpropiis · 21/04/2015 06:50

emotion my grandfather said the same about the Queen Mother, he rarely had anything bad to say about anybody either.

He thought the Queen was lovely though, "she must take after her father". Grin

LaLaLaaaa · 21/04/2015 07:18

I used to work in an upmarket hotel so celebs would come in regularly

Jk Rowling - quiet and polite
Peter Andre - very nice
Chris Hoy - stood at bar, seemed very nice
Russell Brand - lovely and chatty
Ant and Dec - were very friendly despite getting swamped by people wanting to speak to them
Stiflers mom - fantastic, so friendly and fun

Met away from work:
George Clooney - lovely, spent lots of time talking to fans
Anthony Costa - twat
Katie price lives near me and we see her lots. She's always down to earth and nice, does her own shopping and doesn't expect special treatment. I've heard from someone whose kids are at the same school that both her and peter are lovely.
Brian may - wonderful, takes loads of time out of his day to chat and said my cats are cool Grin

BringMeTea · 21/04/2015 07:44

I love this thread.

Defnitely feeling sad that I have, so far, missed out on the Anthony Head love. I will be visiting my sis in Bristol soon though and taking a train so my hopes are high.

I have never met a celebrity so my contribution is vicarious.

Stella McCartney: tried to push in front of my friend at the local gym. Friend demurred, Stella glowered but backed down.

Gary Linekar: Friend attempted friendly, waiting at the bar chat (before his heady MOTD gig) and he was a rude twat.

John Leslie: Friend and her friend went back to his flat for post pub drinks, he put his hand up both their skirts simultaneoulsy (think sofa) and suggested a threesome. They left. Obvs this is all before the Ulrika revelations.

Mark Lamarr: Friend was a big fan and her DP met him in a pub and told him such. Mark Lamarr took their address. Week later my friend received a post card: Dear Karen (not her real name), Where have you been all my life?, love Mark.

I am delighted to hear that Trevor and Simon are not only lovely but considered celebs.

I always read these threads with the dread that Alistair Appleton will appear as a baddie. He hasn't so far. Anyone met/know him? If so, only happy stories please!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 21/04/2015 08:03

My dread is that somebody says something nasty about David Attenborough!

Someone I know went up to Alan Davies in a pub immediately after a gig to say how much she'd enjoyed it. He was very rude to her indeed, saying he didn't want to be interrupted now he was with a friend. She had been a big fan and now.... isn't. Sad

Snowsquonk · 21/04/2015 08:12

Sue Perkins (as in Mel and Sue) is lovely - my 12 year old daughter met her at a radio show recording and we've got a great photo and she talked to her about GBBO for ages!

Sandi Toksvig - nice but takes no prisoners, quite exacting. Clive Anderson used to be a total knobber but has improved and is now quite nice.

BitOutOfPractice · 21/04/2015 08:39

I was surprised to hear Mr Tumble is a prat. Mr Maker on the other hand is lovely. We met him at a Race for Life. My DD wasn't feeling very well and he made a particular effort to talk to her. He was smashing.

Some slebs are cropping up on the lovely list. Some surprising (Katie Price) and some not surprising (Julie Walters)

Igneococcus · 21/04/2015 08:40

I never bump into any celebs not even Anthony Head. He must have not made it to Scotland yet on his attempt to meet every person in Britain.
I did see Camille Coduri (Jacky Tyler from Dr Who) at Terminal 5 last November, I frowned at her trying to figure out where I knew her from, she smiled back at me. Based on that 5 seconds interaction I'd say she is very nice.
