Very trivial discussion (so I know I am being unreasonable already Grin ), but I am reading a thread about nasty celebs from 2008 (google brought me there) and really enjoying the gossip... AIBU to ask who the nicest and vilest celebs are who you have met in real life?

OP posts:

Steve McFadden who plays Phil Mitchell in Eastenders was so rude when we met him on the Eurostar!

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 20/04/2015 21:07

Princess Margaret was widely agreed to be a mannerless cow. She chain smoked at the dinner table, flirted with married men in front of their wives, demanded her own toilet seat be installed in every venue and ripped out the moment she left etc. etc. There was a tradition in the Armed Forces that a commanding officer only had to undergo Margaret once in his career.

KurriKurri · 20/04/2015 21:07

Mrs Grimes - my DS once shared a house with Abi Titmuss -lets just say she's slightly odd.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 20/04/2015 21:11

Steve Parrish was the most entertaining celeb I've met. Kind, generous and his stories are hair-raising. Brothel explosions, high speeed crashes, impersonation etc.

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 20/04/2015 21:13

How could I forget! I was mates with Jamie Hooton who plays Sam Dingle on Emmerdale I don't actually watch it for years. A nicer guy you could not wish to meet.

I presented some awards at a big charity bash years ago in a previous life and had a clutch of minor celebs on hand to assist. Gordon Kaye was just so, so lovely. Alice Beer was too, and the bloke from Antiques Roadshow.

Idontseeanydragons · 20/04/2015 21:20

Peter Capaldi is known on the DW fan boards to be overwhelmingly lovely to the fans.
He always uses his breaks on location to go and sign autographs and have pics taken and has done videos and chats with young fans. He's done some personal appearances at the DW Experience recently.
Jenna Coleman is apparently the same - they must know that they're practically being stalked on Twitter (last season location filming had it's own hashtag) but they never let anyone down.

I love the fact that John Lydon is nice but only slightly weird - I would have thought he would be downright batshit considering his past! Grin

Bellejournee · 20/04/2015 21:21

Through work I've met a few celebs...but a few that have stood out for various reasons:

Cat Deeley, really, really lovely.
Peter Andre - must have the best PR in town as every time I've met him he's so far up his own backside. So fake and believes his hype.
Kim Kardashian - sweet, quite shy actually.
Simon Cowell - a bit stand off-ish, but well mannered and bought the whole team drinks. From what I know, he works his employees hard, but they're very well looked after and get treated to a spa days/Ibiza villa team trips. He expects 100% commitment though.
Little Mix girls - all lovely, despite their rep, they are really all down to earth and work hard.

MrsBoreanaz · 20/04/2015 21:22

Sorry!! Another one here who can vouch for ASH's loveliness!!

Met him on an Easyjet flight from Bristol to Belfast. We both had speedy boarding (where all it gets you is first place to the bus!) and we chatted here and on the plane (mainly me quizzing him about what David Boreanaz was like!!)

He was playing with his daughters pink DS on the flight but was just lovely. Tall (and I'm 6ft), sparkly eyed and just luff-ly

Anjou · 20/04/2015 21:33

Fairgame ..... NOOOOOOOO! Shock I'm sure that Justin/Mr Tumble must be a genuinely nice guy. Say it ain't so.

Exmrs. Exactly. He REALLY didn't get on with his partner. Made a real big deal of it through 'official internal channels'. It's a bloody dancing competition Backshall!

JoBlogs · 20/04/2015 21:42

Have met a few in my time as used to work in 'meeja'. As I list them I realise that most of those I met were charming. Very few that I would rather stick pins in my eyes than meet again....

Lulu - a sweetie (sold her something when I was a Saturday girl at a London department store in my youth)
Peter Alliss (the golf guy) - utterly charming
Joan Collins - lovely lovely lovely. Really lovely. And funny.
Phil Collins (not related!) - I found him charming, he was at a lunch party I was invited to (only 8 of us there!).
Julie Walters - just a very nice lady
John Nettles - a gentleman
Wayne Sleep - mad as a hatter, but very nice
Prince Edward - very bright and good company
Anita Roddick - lovely
Michael Brandon - great fun, completely up for a laugh
Andrew Roberts (historian) - charming
Mel Giedroyc - exactly how she is on TV - delightful and sweet (and I bet Sue Perkins is too)
Richard Branson - delightful.

Mel Gibson (sat next to him on a plane albeit across an aisle!) – happy to make polite conversation
Prince Philip – an utter gentleman
Clare Grogan – Sweet and funny
Richard Allinson (now on Magic) – a gentleman
Jimmy Osmond - still cute!
Russell Grant - good fun
Chris De Burgh - signed the book I asked him to sign with a smile and really wanted to know who the book was for (my sister).

Clement Freud – pompous, stuck up and rude
Anneka Rice - no comment
Robin Cook - very clever but not nice (dumped his wife by text I seem to remember). A bit pleased with himself.
Ann Robinson - no thank you
Jerry Hall - never want to meet her again – snooty and pompous and yes, also needs an oxygen mask!
John Leslie – No, no, no.

I would love to meet Bryan Cranston from Breaking Bad. I am sure he would be delightful. Most unlikely ever to though Sad

flippinada · 20/04/2015 21:52

Mel Gibson no doubt has some talent but he's a horrible racist and also guilty of domestic abuse (there's evidence all over the internet).

I guess even the nastiest people can be polite and pleasant when it suits them, though.

JoBlogs · 20/04/2015 22:04

I met him years ago (late 80s) before any of that stuff came out. He's very short!

Sistedtwister · 20/04/2015 22:08

Lisa Riley once 'recognised' me in a pub but I wasn't who she thought I was Grin. Really bubbly and friendly

Freya Copeland ( angie the police women in emmerdale) used to live opposite I spent weeks trying to figure out where I knew her from. She thought it was hilarious. Seriously nice lady.

Eric pollard is a sweety as was Jack sugden and Sam dingle.

Probably totally outed when where I live now

DorisLessingsCat · 20/04/2015 22:17

I had to come on to defend Dawn French. I've worked with her on a project and she is utterly, utterly lovely. If I could choose a BFF or a mum I would choose her. She seeks no limelight and never blows her own trumpet. She's done an awful lot of good that no one will ever know about.

She is constantly harassed by paps and was severely threatened by nasty racists when she was with Lenny Henry so if she is not always sweetness and light while out in public I can sympathise.

LadyBaelish · 20/04/2015 22:17

I've been lucky and have never met a nasty celeb but here are my votes for the nicest ones!

Frank Turner, have seen a few people on various sites say he can be a twat but every time I've crossed paths with him he's been great. Also dedicated a song at a gig one night to my Nephew who got a tattoo of some of his lyrics and showed him before the show!

Greg Proops. Met him several times, he knows me by name now Blush Probably a sign I've met him too many times to be honest! But always lovely and v. generous with his time.

NoMilkNoSugar · 20/04/2015 22:23

Timmy Mallet - fab! I am still in awe of him, he didn't run my childhood illusion of him.

Camillia PB - my Aunt served her for years in a shop where DA worked. Said she was lovely.

LadyBaelish · 20/04/2015 22:26

DH wants to add Julian Clary to the nice list. DH rushed round a corner and bumped into him in the street one day and Julian was lovely about it as DH stammered an apology!

Theimpossiblegirl · 20/04/2015 22:28

Julie Walters- absolutely lovely woman.
John Hannah- top bloke.

AlmaMartyr · 20/04/2015 22:40

DorisLessingsCat - a relative of mine worked with Dawn French and said that she was absolutely lovely. They're not the type to praise, and weren't a fan before they met her.

worksallhours · 20/04/2015 22:44

I met and worked with a lot of celebs through my job when I was younger. There were really only three people I ever met that I thought were really not very nice ...

Meera Syal
Corin Redgrave
Ken Livingstone (beyond the pale, to be honest)

Apart from that, there were a lot of celebs that were just rather odd people really, and I wouldn't have said they inhabited the same planet as the rest of us -- they came across as extremely "affected". These were people like Jerry Hall and Ruby Wax.

Bianca Jagger was fairly nice though.

CocktailQueen · 20/04/2015 22:46

Jacqueline Wilson was lovely. Met her in Richmond Park and my dd was delighted. Gave her advice about writing and suggested we take a pic of her with dd. V impressed. She also writes to her fans - lovely personalised letters. Big thumbs up!

OrlandoWoolf · 20/04/2015 22:48

I sat in a plane on the row behind Princess Margaret in 1991.
It was on Monarch Airlines. She held the plane up by an hour, smoked in the no smoking bit, had nicer food than the rest and read the Daily Mail.

Which of those is the worst sin?

BlueDressingGown · 20/04/2015 22:49

Oh she's not really a celeb, but Julia Donaldson was very diva-ish and rude at a book signing. The Gruffalo woman.

BlueDressingGown · 20/04/2015 22:50

Orlando - she read WHAT?!

Iwantahandbag · 20/04/2015 23:06

Met Anna Friel just after her brookside days, she was so rude and full of her own self importance. A friend has met her in recent years and says she is still rude and obnoxious.
Katie Price was absolutely lovely. So down to earth, chatted to my children and appeared generally interested. Also very pretty in person.
Peter Andre however was rude, and very full of himself.
Also met Richard Branson, lovely and a real gentleman.
