Very trivial discussion (so I know I am being unreasonable already Grin ), but I am reading a thread about nasty celebs from 2008 (google brought me there) and really enjoying the gossip... AIBU to ask who the nicest and vilest celebs are who you have met in real life?

becles can confirm that Paxman is interesting, funny friendly and generous with his time. Dd 1got a selfish with him last year and he was fab!

WorraLiberty · 19/04/2015 23:10

This is such a strange thread.

What happened to the MN mantra 'You've only seen a small snapshot of someone's life'?

Unless you actually know someone, you can't possibly say whether they are nasty or nice.

The fact that person is famous, absolutely doesn't change that.

OrangeVase · 19/04/2015 23:10

Jolene from The archers - not nice. Worked with her - v charming as long as to her personal advantage but I know a few people who have been caught out by her and realised they were used.

Philip Glenister - utterly gorgeous. He smiled when I gawped as I passed him in the supermarket!

Tony Benn - lovely. Took time to talk
Mary Hooper - childrens' author - lovely; we met her at a book signing. Later my DD wrote to her - she wrote back - a wonderful personal letter. These things matter to kids.
My colleague met Prince Harry - was bowled over by him. Said he was charming, nice, funny, down to earth, very easy to be with.

LiviaDruscillaAugusta · 19/04/2015 23:12

My mum met Leslie Phillips when he came into the charity shop she worked in. He was wonderful and charming, and talked for ages about his Burmese cats!

Rik Mayall was lovely too - I met him at the stage door when he had been in a play. He talked to me and my friends for about an hour (even nicer considering it was a very cold December night!)

Pete Postlewhaite was lovely, as is Dermot O Leary.
Ella Woodward (deliciously Ella) is literally the dullest person ever.
Johnny Vegas is a dull drunk and John Cleese is a grumpy git.

Leafitout · 19/04/2015 23:16

I worked in catering whilst Girls Aloud were filming an advert years ago. Cheryl Cole was ok but refused to eat from a paper plate so asked me for a China plate pet! Sarah Harding had a gob like a sewer, Kimberly Walsh is lovely and Nicola is a miserable cow who refused point blank to eat from the catering unit.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 19/04/2015 23:19

Ruby Wax was quite grumpy with me when I was just doing my job. In the same situation Suzie Quattro was a sweetie.

WizardofSnoz · 19/04/2015 23:19

That's funny that Jimmy Saville and your Mum warning you off back then. My Mum grew up in Salford while he was DJing around Manchester and he was seeing a divorced woman with several children who lived on her street. Anyway, there was a big to do because the kids natural father came round wanting to fight him because he'd been 'mucking with his kids' the police were involved but were convinced it was just a jealous ex. He stopped coming round but after that period the children became very troubled and one committed suicide.

He tried to move on and find other divorced women with children but the word about him was out in Manchester and they were warned off about him (my Gran remembers warning people). My Mum knew never to be alone with him at a dance. And this is going back to the late 50s early 60s.

So loads of people knew. Even on the website Digital Spy there was a thread for years which discussed all the stuff that was going to come out after he died and people discussed it openly on there for years before he died. Yet the police never acted....

MrsTerryPratchett · 19/04/2015 23:22

True Worra and a few of us have brought that up.

It is interesting, though, that some people; Victoria Beckham and Jarvis Cocker, for example, seem to get very good reviews from everyone who's bumped into them.

WizardofSnoz · 19/04/2015 23:23

Richard Whiteley was a right lech at uni personal appearances

Shenanagins · 19/04/2015 23:25

Woody harleson was very lovely and bought me a drink when I was out.

LucasNorthsTwiglets · 19/04/2015 23:27

Lovely - David Tennant (nobody has a bad word to say about him), Chris Martin, Bob Monkhouse...

Twats - Geri Halliwell, Mariah Carey, Steve Wright...

BlueDressingGown · 19/04/2015 23:30

Eddie Izzard is not very good at hiding how much it bores him to talk to fans! Plus he's a lot shorter than I thought.

Princess Diana was exactly how I expected - sweet and friendly and very unassuming.

emms1981 · 19/04/2015 23:31

Not met but Dr Christian was rude to me on twitter once. I turn the TV off when he comes on now Grin

OrangeVase · 19/04/2015 23:32

Another colleague has worked with Jessica Michibata - she is really, really lovely apparently. friendly and sweet-natured with people who work for her.

True - famous people are just people but it is the public versus private persona that is so interesting. What are they really like? Especially when they portray a specific image on screen or in public. (Mr Nice guy, Ms Caring, Mr Fun-chap etc).

elmwoo · 19/04/2015 23:32

I have met Shaun Ryder who was absolutely lovely and considerate, I have also met mark keds (senseless things singer) and he was lovely and gave me a cigarette ,

WorraLiberty · 19/04/2015 23:32

I just find the whole celeb interest weird MrsTerry, but I do realise I'm fairly alone in that.

I would assume that for everyone who bumped into VB and JC on a 'good day', there'll be just as many who bumped into them on a bad day, but they didn't think to say so on the internet.

SistersofPercy · 19/04/2015 23:33

Craig Charles was ace when I met him, though slightly drunk.

I have a Robson Greene story. DHs uncle was in the police force and once caught Mr Greene having a sneaky wee in an alley behind a nightclub. He did let him off but he was apparently rather embarrassed Grin

SergeantJarhead · 19/04/2015 23:33

My sister was security personnel at a nightclub in Cardiff frequented by 'slebs, Charlotte Church skipped the queue and was told by my sister she had to wait, Charlotte uttered the words 'Do you know who I am' ... apparently an awful woman with a horrid attitude.

MrsMook · 19/04/2015 23:35

I was working on the reception of a hospital when a chap came up, gabbled some spiel at me, then asked if I was from that town. I was somewhat surprised having expected something like "where is Dr Hackett's clinic?" and stuttered "err yes". He walked off to another desk and it turned out that he used the staff there on his election candidate leaflets. I think I may have been too much of a pleb for this particular MP.

I overheard a Prince Philip conversation when I collected my Doe award at the palace. It was a foul, sodden, bitterly cold day, and he asked a lad where he did his award. The lad answered "Hong Kong" and Prince Philip replied "I bet you wish you'd stayed there " obviously with reference to grim weather. It struck me as the kind of comment that could be wilfully misinterpreted in the tabloids. I don't envy the royals having to make endless, repetitive small talk!

pudding25 · 19/04/2015 23:37

I met Alan Carr at an event he was hosting and went to speak to him. He was absolutely lovely.

Liam Gallagher and Nicole Appelton-Pissed out of their faces and were really friendly. Posed for loads of photos.

Ashley Banjo-absolutely lovely.

Paul Kaye (was Dennis Pennis, in Shameless, now in Game of Thrones). Met him quite a few times through work and he's great.

Devora · 19/04/2015 23:37

My brother meets lots of celebs through work. He says his favourite is Beyonce - always professional, polite and kind.

OrangeVase · 19/04/2015 23:38

Princess Diana - forgot - I sat near her in Sticky Fingers restaurant in Kensington one lunchtime. She was completely natural. (I was a bit star struck)

David Beckham regularly comes up as being nice as does David Tennant and Roger Federer.

ComposHatComesBack · 19/04/2015 23:42

Van Morrison is someone whose music I love but as a person he is just a horrible man.

There's a saying. There's two types of people : people who like Van Morrisson and people who've met Van Morrison.

Alan Rickman is similarly spectacularly rude.
